If you're talking pure "talent", and not racing, then it's Pastrana. Not even close....

3 pages in and no mention of Stefan Everts? That dude had "flow" for days, epitomizing the "looks slow/goes fast" style replicated by guys like K-Dub. And like Sipes, his successfully translated his skills into other off-road venues.

Would also like to second the Marty Tripes nomination, who had as much natural talent as anyone, but it was not coupled with a dogged determination required to win championships.

Go back and watch Stewart in the 125 class and his first few years in the 250s. No one has ever ridden like him and the sport is still feeling his effect to this day. Even the top guys have admitted (RC4 and CR22) that they had to learn to ride on a whole new level when Stewart entered the mix. RC4 talks about it like he had to completely reinvent the way he rode and he also readily admits that all he could do to beat Stewart in supercross was hope that he could keep up with him long enough to apply pressure. This is the GOAT saying this. I'm sorry but this one is just not an argument. Just like it's not an argument that Tom Brady is the greatest QB ever.

RC, only because JS crashed too much, taking away from his unearthly riding ability.

Pourcel struggled with the mental game maybe, he was like an adult going through the then lites class. Really surprised he didn't have a run at dominating the podium on the 450.

Adding Mike Healey. But yes, it has to be The Dogger. When he was on it, no one could touch him. Ricky Johnson says as much himself.

This!!!

Currently. No question it is Jarvis. All the fast mxers with all their hardware pale in comparison to this man. He can do things on 2 wheels that most pros only drool after. Cody Webb is getting close though.

All time. Either Steve Wise or Jeff Ward. Talent = versatility. Can do it on whatever they ride. No just mx/sx. Both have championships in other 2-wheeled categories.

Most talented.......... IMO..... TP199.....

That didn't translate into the most wins ever, but the most talented rider to ever lay a tire on a MX or SX track IMO is TP199.....

JS259 on a 125 is without a doubt the most talented I've ever seen. Completely changed moto, people are still emulating to this day.

Complete savage on a tiddler:

I'd say Stewart but I think Baggett is highly underrated in this subject.

Ken Roczen has to be up there. It just looks so easy for him and from a young age he's always been way ahead of his peers. Herlings is talanted af too ofc but I see him more as a work product similiar to Ricky, while guys like Stewart and Roczen just has had it a bit easier reaching their levels

In Racing and putting in laps on a motocross track or supercross track its James Stewart.

But Travis is The most talented on a Dirtbike in a totally different way. He will do a Backflip over jumps that other pro riders are scared to just jump.
A lot of things his mind thinks of to try are just unfathomable to others, he is really something special
They both are really.
It hard to argue one is better than the other, they just went a little different directions.

Hmm, Herlings does things that no other rider I've seen do on the a mx track, he's also one of the only ones I've seen who gets faster when the track gets rougher, I'd say he's more talented than both RC and KR.

That's my opinion though.

The reason i said JLaw is he did everything on little to no training. Hell, Daytona when “let Reed by” happened. Guys like JS7, Windham, MC, Herlings they all worked for that talent...not JLaw...he has the gift.

Honestly, I think Chad Reed is up there. Up until the last few years he could keep pace with just about anybody.

As in Blake Bagget? The most talented rider in the history of the sport? He’s no where near being even the most talented active rider today...

Is there another Baggett in the picture I'm not seeing? He hits lines others wont consistently and just had a come from behind win so I think that just puts your post to rest right there. Also I said JS7 was the most talented. I just was stating Baggett was underrated, which you are proving correct.

I have always thought Roczen was the closest thing to Stewart. Roczen even throws SX races and titles away faster than JS7 did and gets hurt in the prime of his career like JS7. That aside when he is on nobody rides like that. If you have NBC gold go watch when Roczen pulls the pin on Dungey at Glen Helen Moto 1 2016. To do what he did to Dungey on that track which was arguably the most over the top MX track ever was nuts. Late in the race he passes Ryan by going over 3 seconds a lap faster and the next lap he is nearly 5 seconds a lap faster than Ryan Dungey late in a race I.E where Dungey makes his money. IMO the best someone has ever looked on a dirtbike outdoors is when they show him dispatch Dungey. Herlings defeat by AC in 2017 turned him into what he is by training his ass off and was arguably the best thing to happen to him. I agree with Herlings being a damn hard worker which brought him to the next level. All of the top guys in the AMA/GPs have insane amounts of talent to begin with compared to us mortals.

DeCoster and Mikkola were animals. DeCoster won a lot by going as fast 30 minutes into the Moto as he did in the beginning. Hannah himself said training is what made him win as he did not have the talent of Jamming Jimmy. Those three won by training not by talent. Robert won with talent, as per DeCoster. The other guys I don’t know enough about other then Everts who was extremely talented.
