Tomac seemed off pace

I think Matthes tweeted that his rear tyre was destroyed at end of race and that probably explains his lack of forward progress towards end of race.

A 3rd n a 4th is better than a Dnf Dns... hes peeeerfectly fine and he usually goes on a string of wins so if a 4th is his bad night hes fine.

I think this years Tomac is a very dangerous Tomac.
He has everything under control and has plenty of races to turn it "ON".
This year consistency will be more important then it allready was.

Tomac currently sits third in points. A paltry 4 points behind the current points leader (Roczen.) Seems like he is doing just fine.

They don't last long in those conditions if you make the wrong tire choice. Hard as f**k to ride with no knobbiest left = no traction, tire unbalanced etc.

I thought it was a terrible track for passing. Everyone is running the same times. Track too easy for these guys.

He’s 39 points ahead of where he was last year at this time. While he hasn’t contested for wins yet, I’m sure he’ll be fine.

I Think that Eli is turning into the rider that a lot of us wanted to see. More mature and knowing when and how to take his shots. That track for one was sketchy , and I think he rode smart. Hell , he came from a 19th gate pick ( which was like 2nd or 3rd from the very inside? ). I'd say 4th is a pretty good night.
I completely agree and your statement makes a lot of sense, the only problem with Eli trying to play the Dungey game is, Eli can't get a top 3 holeshot every race like Dungey could and like Kenny most likely will. I just thought he'd push harder to pass a guy that will most likely be starting in front of him. Still early

I think he’s in a good spot. That slick track could be dangerous for tomac, with the hard blue groove and tricky long rhythms. After watching him the last few years I’m convinced that no one out there rides a bike as hard as he does. He may not be the fastest every night, but he’s definitely the most aggressive, and I believe has the highest probably for self destruction. like we saw when he suffered his massive crash in the nats with Honda, leading by a minute and riding harder than anyone. If he has to take it down a peg and leave the west coast healthy and move on to the softer east coast where he can ride all out, I’m good with it.
I think you've nailed it here. Tomac's happy place is in "beast mode" but that way of riding is only really doable with good conditions and high traction. That's not to say that he's never done well on a bad track, but the real Eli comes out when the traction is mint. With a wet track last week, and a slick hard track this week, I think we'll see an uptick soon.

One other thing to remember here is , that the west coast tracks don't rut up like they do on the east coast. The more ruts , the more knarly they get , is when you will see him do 10th place to 1st place type rides. These first two rounds were tracks that a lot of guys are going real close to the same speed. BUT.....it makes for some really close racing that way too.

Carmichael changed the way people train.
Stewart changed the way people ride.
Did Dungey change the way guys race and manage championships?

Is the new normal to accept a 3rd or 4th if you aren’t feeling it (where in the past guys would have pushed it with a more “win or crash” menatility-RV seemed to have this).

I think dungey changed the sport.

Seems like everybody but E.T. thinks the KX450 19 is the best MX bike Kawi has ever made.

The track was both easy and dangerous at the same time. The only thing it had going for it was its size. It was not a track where "beast mode" would get you positive results.

20/20 hindsight is what it is called. Ryan Dungey had that rare ability to ride at the edge of his ability without exceeding it and his ability/skill level was only ever threatened by Villopoto for the most part.

FYI, Tomac had the best average starting position of anyone last year. Better than Ken.

J.T and Mathis’s we’re talking about it in the Glendale post race show as JT was saying he hasn’t seen that Tomac speed at all so far including practice, qualifying and the races and he was kinda surprised!! Damn, I just hope to see him dropping the hammer soon as when Eli opens it up it’s sure as hell fun to watch!!

Be interesting to know how close to the 18 chassis set up they are or get. With the 19 engine of course. That 18 was dialed in

Well, he has 4000% more points after 2 rounds this year than he did last year, so I think he's off to a good start. He has 40 this year compared to 1 last year, and he only lost by 38, so he's in a good spot.

I believe this is what Tomac needs to do. We don't need to see blazing speed at this point. If he can put it in the top 5 every round before heading east, he'll be in a great spot.

2018 Tomac had 1 point after 2 rounds and was 48 points out from first lost the Championship by 38 points.

2019 Tomac has 40 points and is 4 points out from first.

Seems on pace to me. also after watching him close during the races He does show flashes of speed but seems to back it down.

I think we're seeing that the rumors of him coming into the season with a bit of an injury are showing true.

OMG, you are right. I totally left off Blake Bagget in fourth position with 37 points.
