Wasn’t really sure what section to put this topic in, but what the hell..... I have a short drive to work everyday, and being I’m in a VERY rural area, I can take dirt roads all but 1/2 mile to my shop. Driving home the other day, I thought , “why the hell are you driving this route?” It’s twisty, relatively flat, but looked fun on two wheels for certain. Any of you guys ride to work daily? Obviously, weather permitting, I live just two miles from the the interstate if conditions were too unbearable. But dualsport bikes I know nothing about, and kinda sounds like fun! Just wanted to hear from you guys if it’s something you do for input. Already looking at a Suzuki, so bash away......
PS.... Dirt roads here a rocky, so a Motard bike won’t cut it......

I commuted to/from TWMX for a while on a DR-Z400. Not the most ideal freeway commuter.

loved riding my buddies 2012 KTM 690 enduro on the road but it was kind of big for single track here in PA. Always wondered how the 300 2 stroke would be tho....

I have an FX350 I put a Tusk kit on. I love being able to ride on the streets plus it's still better on the track than my 2104 YZ205F.

Front turn signals could have been in the hand guards but I stuck with the stock handguards since the headlight has the turn signals built in.

Dual sports are a blast on back/side/off roads but if you ever have to get on a interstate you will wish it weighed 300ibs more. It sounds perfect for what you are wanting to do. Also bigger is better on the streets

I ride my DR-Z400 on mostly gravel roads on the way to work. Love sliding it sideways on the curviest road I can find but you better leave early to get to work on time.

2 wheel drive Ural Gear Up. My only vehicle for almost 5 years. Ride it year round. Coldest I rode was 19 degrees below zero. Goes great in 10 inches of snow. Almost the most fun you can have on a motorcycle. Can't get pics to load, error message?

Yep. Have had a DRZ400 for 14 years. Commute to work, off roading, adv trips. It does everything aside from MX.

I have an 18 KLX 250 that I just bought back in May. It's my first street legal bike so still some what cautious on roads. I don't take it on the highways (not that it really has the balls to comfortably go there anyway) but I live in a heavily wooded area and take back roads to work during the riding season. I absolutely love it, just haven't been able to bring myself to take it off road just yet. she's still too new and pretty haha. not to mention the lack of legal off road areas to ride here.

I did for a couple of years on a CRF 450x. I highly recommend it. I now drive a company vehicle so I sold the dual sport, but I miss it.

I have an older KTM 450 EXC that I ride to work some days. When it warms up and deer season ends, I'm hoping to find more fun dirt roads.

Wife’s FE250 and my 500.

We think they’re great for exploring small towns and back roads.

You definitely don’t want to spend to much time on the highway though.

My wife rides to work on her XT250 quite a bit when it's warmer. 15 miles one way. She backroads it cause the XT is not freeway friendly by any means. I hit 73mph one time on it, downhill tucked in with a tail wind. Cool round town cruiser but not good at all for high speed commutes.

I have a WR250X. Only 29 hp but it gets the job done pretty much everywhere. Long highways rides are not fun but do-able. The manual says you should check the valves every 26,600 miles! I'm about to the reach that mark and haven't had any issues with it. I only changed tires, grips, chain, sprockets brake pads. Oil every 3000 miles... Extremely reliable and very little maintenance.

I used to have a street legal 2-stroke also I think it was responsible for giving a lot of cops whiplash sure did catch their attention

Just moved and can literally ride trails all the way to work. Been wanting to get a dual sport, just can't right this minute. The second we can do it, I'll be on my way to pick up a Husky 501

I had a DRZ400 that I used to commute to work for 8 years. Had 32k on it when I sold it and I didn’t touch the engine internally except for adjusting the valves one time at 24k.

I had an 11 mile commute with 55mph limits on the backroads of Wisconsin. It was perfect. Plan on getting another one soon.

Guys this thread I started was just out of curiosity, and after reading through it, seeing the bike pics, I’m missing out! I showed this to my better half, and her response was far better than I ever imagined. She’s never put her foot down on my wants, and let’s me be me, all knowing that I’m the exact same for her.... we make an amazing team..... her response? “Babe, let’s get two!!! Always wanted to learn how to ride, what better way for you to teach me?” So I’m thinking mild trails for us to enjoy, possibly camp out for a night, just generally enjoy some fun time now that the kids are essentially grown. We’ve enjoyed going to races for years, but now she can feel like she’s totally involved, and I love it. Plus, I think it would be pretty fucking cool to see my girl ride up to my shop in town on her day off ?. Thanks for all the input guys, really looking forward to this!??
