Yes, you’re on the right track! The dampener is adjustable just like your forks or shock. More tension releases the clutch slower, less tension is faster. The dampener is located right behind the clutch arm on the engine case.

What’s the verdict on rutted dirt starts? I would think not having that snap to get the wheel over the gate would be a huge disadvantage. Other than that, sounds promising. I’ve always sucked on concrete pad starts, I could see it being great for that

You can adjust the amount of “hit” it has by the gap between the dampener and clutch arm. It’s for that exact reason; to get the front wheel up over the gate but not have to pull the clutch in again to get it to settle down.
I had thought that, but then doesn’t it disengage once you let the clutch out fully the first time? So you set it to get over the gate, assuming very light, then you’re on your own after that? I mean it’s still an advantage I suppose, just much less so than from a level surface. Not trying to bag on you here, just getting the full idea

The tension runs out about 20-30 feet depending on how it’s set. It’s still slipping once you cross the gate. Smart thinking on your part. ??

This.

I'm glad someone has found something they can make money off of, but all this new stuff coming out just continues to take more and more skill out of riding and racing. Until everyone starts beating me to the first turn because of devices, I refuse to ever buy or use one.

Oh okay, yeah I guess you have to account for the time it takes the piston to retract huh? I’m against holeshot devices in theory, no matter what design...but...I would like to try this out and see how well it works, I think you may have sold me

Exactly. I respect the ingenuity and thought that must have gone into this, but fuck off with the start devices in general. Let’s all keep it a level playing field off the gate and see who’s best. Isn’t that why we all liked racing in the first place?

As an offroad guy with dead engine starts I don't think this device is applicable to me, but I just wanted to post and say I think its a really cool little gadget and the inventor clearly did some real world testing to back it up.

Regardless of your feelings on fair or not I think its a pretty cool idea. Lots of people have high dollar suspension, brakes, and engine work just to race their local C class, this doesn't seem much different to me.

This is on Kdub’s bike right before MXoN we were testing. Look right above the front sprocket.

So it retards the clutch engagement on starts? Freaking genius idea. Skating traction control. For that matter so is Rekluse.

Good job.

Not hating, but can't people just do this with their fingers? Or does everyone just use the dump the clutch and hope for the best outcome process?

It creates a linear release every time for better predictability. But the one draw back is that it doesn't work on built in hydraulic clutches or connection points behind the flywheel cover like many 2 strokes have. The second one rules me out for sure.

Hydraulic is in testing now. The 2 strokes are a challenge I haven’t tackled yet but continue to look into.

What are you doing differently to modulate a hydraulic line that goes directly in to the case? There's no actuator arm to push against.

As a hard core moto dude who is also a regular NHRA participant- great idea!! The start is a big drag race, and adding tune-able consistency to your starts will pay dividends. Tricky part will be knowing how to set it for different conditions.

great idea. great design. Terrible for the sport.

I wish the AMA would just ban ANYTHING that has anything to do with the starts and - BINGO - it's an even playing field, completely dependent on skill.

Get off my lawn.

We can talk about the merits of holeshot devices all day but you have to respect a damn good idea when you see one.

All that money and RnD invested by the manufacturers into launch and traction control on today's motocross bikes to make the perfect start when all they needed was a little contraption like this holeshot device.

All the posts I've seen on this site complaining about how expensive motocross bikes are this day and age and yet some still think adding more stuff to an already advanced machine is a good idea.

I concur with those wanting "holeshot" devices banned and I would add getting rid of the launch and traction control systems as well. Do motocross bikes really need to be THIS complicated. Improvements in frame, suspension and engine design is natural progression of what went before, but all these add-ons.... really?

But it's your money so you shall spend it as you please, and thank goodness for that because it makes companies selling shit you don't need very happy.

Any of you giving this thumbs down just don't know how to pull a good start and thus don't get it.. You really think just giving It full throttle and dumping the clutch is a good idea? Is this the way to teach our future generations.?

Yup - seems like a good guy is behind this idea, and it's certainly well thought out.
Only problem for him is assholes like me that will grumble about them forever, even though I know that I'll forever lose the argument cause when your competitor buys one, so will you.

Such is life, I suppose. Congrats on the idea, amigo.

A guy I raced supermoto with used a recluse instead of slipper clutch and he claimed the best part was being able to just keep it pinned on the start line with the rear brake engaged and then just let go of the rear brake and let the clutch do all the work. He even replaced his clutch lever with a rear brake lever on the bars so he could just dump it with his hand like normal.

He did get great starts all the time, so there was definitely something to his methodology that worked.
