It was a standalone event before that. Gestev never put on a race before so my guess is that they let the Jetwerx group partner up with them in order to try and make the event a success since Jetwerx have been putting on races for years and have contacts that Gestev might not.
Perhaps next year we'll be able to watch it live if Jetwerx partner up with them from the beginning.
That said I don't know why it's not being broadcasted on TSN, Sportsnet, etc. Limiting it to French broadcasters is a sure way to not make the event grow. They are bringing in American riders which in terms brings interest not only from fans in Canada but the US as well so not broadcasting the event in English is a mistake on their part.
Another thing that doesn't make sense is that they said they're currently shopping around for an international broadcaster to purchase the rights to the event. Not sure who would want to purchase a French event then put the work in to have everything subtitled in English.
Either way I hope the event is a success. With no Toronto round in 2019 this is the next best thing.
No clue as to what the TV schedule is for those events but the live stream shouldn't be a problem unless they run into some technical issues.

Maybe I'm just spoiled in this day and age but in my opinion every "big" event should be live streamed in some capacity.
They should have known that bringing some of the bigger/popular US names up for the race was going to spike the interest from the fans in the US and abroad.
It's a no brainer but in their defense it's their very first time putting on a race event. I'm sure they'll learn from it and the Jetwerx group. In the email I got from them they said they wanted the most people to attend in person and I get that. They spent a lot of money and they want to get a return on their investment. I personally think it would have been smart on their part to set up a livestream for $10-$15 and capitalize on fans from Canada, US, Europe, etc. Could have easily added 100k+ to their bottom line.
Word is the tickets sales have been good and going fast so I don't see why it won't be back and better/bigger next year.
It's also disappointing because it'll be the only legit SX track of the Triple Crown series since the other races take part in smaller venues.
I just checked for tickets as there's now a 40% discount (code:videotron40) and it looks like they won't be using the second level... It also seems like the part of the first level they're using is far from sold out. Very sad considering the huge amount of advertisements during the most popular TV shows in Quebec. I'd say between 2-6 million people have been exposed to the ads everyday for the last 2 weeks (one French station has most of viewers..).
The ad is shitty imo. Not attractive to people who don't know about moto. You can't see much. You can only hear info about stuff most people know nothing about.
Ticket prices are crazy high. That's the first thing I thought when I read about the event. I don't know any families that would pay $300+ for 2 hours of supercross. Having to pay an extra $20 to watch practice is just retarded. Its like they're trying to keep people away from the stadium. I don't get how they came up with those prices as this is the first time they're having the event in 6 years and they stopped having it cuz people stopped coming.... Tickets should have been super cheap to fill the stadium with whoever had little interest; that way they could grow a fan base for the sport and for years to come... They better put on a good show or that will be the real end of the MTL SX.
I did notice that the ticket prices were on the steep side of things. My guess is that Gestev set everything up themselves before Jetwerx came along and it was too late to change anything. The event is only a week away so I can see why they discounted the tickets if the sales weren't going well but in reality if the prices had been fair from the beginning they wouldn't have to resort to doing that. Ticket prices are probably in accordance with the stadium rental cost, the riders they invited, track cost, etc. But like you said it would have been better to lower the ticket prices and try to fill most of the stadium versus higher ticket prices to fill a portion of it. Hard for the casual fan to spend that kind of money for a night out to watch something they have no idea about.
I personally think adding the amateurs to the night program was a mistake.

Sent the promoters an email and they told me no livestream. I think it's a mistake. Maybe next year if the event is a success and comes back.

Personally I think it's a mistake having the amateurs run in the night show. First race of the evening is the first of the 3 450 main events followed by the women's amateur race. Going from watching the fastest guys of the night to women amateurs who will most likely roll a lot of the obstacles isn't really exciting.
That's followed by the FMX warm up show and then the 250 main event.
I think they should have ran the amateur races late in the afternoon before the evening program.
Big opportunity but shitty turnout due to a few basic poor decisions... Let's stay optimistic for now! Are you going?

Jumps aren't all the big but that's not necessarily a bad thing considering outdoors just ended and riders are just starting to ride SX.
