The US team is a bit stronger on paper, with an expected score of maximum 20 points. With this type of score, only team France was possibly a legit contender ... with Musquin. I think that team NL is more around a 25-30 points expected score, so Tomac may be managed to not be too racy. That is why I think Herlings will go 1-1, while Tomac will be fast but will also look at the pitboard (2 = win).
Of course, everything can happen, a crash, horrible starts, while the other teams take a double holeshot etc, that is why they still held the race, but it is a strong probability of what will happen. The only hope for other teams is a tough qualification and/or mid pack starts, which can also happen as so far the 3 US riders have not been fully consistent with that. They have 1 month to do a zillion starts so I am not too worried either.

Hope they both come in 100%
Herlings holeshot's and Tomac starts 15th, I dont think he catches him.
Same goes the other way around.
Hopefully they swap good starts with the other not far behind.
Bragging rights if Tomac actually passes Herlings, or the other way around. :D
By the way Tomac has never won a qualifying race. (I don't think)

As you were.
Qualifying doesn't matter as much as the races, so they won't be going all out, not to mention the randomized starting order could play a big part. I could see Roger giving both Barcia and AP the first gate pick over Eli given Eli's known to be able to slice through the pack, but I don't know what the dutch will do.
My point is, this is a team race and there are many variables to consider.
But yeah, it's gonna be good either way.
I like our chances. Tomac is actually going and our 2nd 450 guy has actually raced a 450 before. Gotta be better chances than last year.
I think they split moto wins...coming down to the start. But I'd give Herlings the edge in the speed department over Tomac (like a Dungey/Villopoto thing, RV was faster, but Dungey could match his pace, and even beat him, on occasion). .
Honestly though, I just hope Tomac doesn't try and race him...I REALLY want USA to win the des nations...and that is more important that individual honors (In fact, I wish the fim would stop caring about individual class results and focus only on the overall team result)...and I worry that if tomac tries to beat herlings, he'll crash the USA out of contention.
Pit Row
That being said, Tomac could well pull a massive Tomac, and if he does I can't imagine the flack he will get from the fans. If he gets a bad start, I imagine he will push too hard and make some major mistakes. He's not a great starter, unlike Herlings who is almost always in the top 3 round the first corner. If Tomac's a long way back from him on lap 1, I think it might be panic-stations and he could end up on the ground.
Similarly, if Herlings gets buried and Tomac is up front, he might get to second, but he won't catch him if he's a long way up front.
Barcia has never failed to lay it all on the line at this race and impress and he is good at Red Bud. AP was the class of the 250's at this race. I personally think AP would beat Barcia straight up at red bud on their respective bikes. But Barcia digs really deep for this race. Barcias style gets to me sometimes but his heart for the U.S. will always have me a fan!!
I predict the Netherlands to be our biggest competitor, not France. What was France thinking??
if that doesnt happen , we cant compete with team USA at home ... next year maybe , this year nope
