1975, OCIR, 250 Begineer, 72 Honda XR 250, I don't remember, so defiantly no Trophy........lol

1978 on a '78 CR250R in Gallup NM at the Red Rock Dirt Diggers race track...3rd place out of 5 or so in the novice class...

My first race was a San Fran style mudbath at Mosier Valley riding a '80 RM125 in the Novice class. I had no idea what a tear off was and I found myself peering out of a clear spot on my goggles that was about the size of a dime. I ended up crashing about six times and finished somewhere midpack, about 20th. A few weeks later, I went 1/1 and won the 125 Novice Class at the Cowpatty Indoor National at Fort Worth's Northside Colesium. The week after that, I broke my tib/fib at Mosier and was out for nine months. I came back and went straight to the 125 intermediate class where I raced KEN202 at the Conroe round of the GNC Texas Series. I finished fourth and Team Green Ken202 took the overall in the 125 Int. Stock class at Conroe. I had maybe 10 races under my belt at that point. Shortly thereafter, I got hurt again. I came back, after a few months off, on a '82 KX250 and won most of the 250 Int. races I entered until I screwed myself into the ground hard, breaking my sternum. After that crash, I decided that College would be a better way to go.

1978, Ontario, Canada. 250 Junior on a 78' CR250, 35min motos. I went 1 - 1 and the rest is history! 28 years and counting.

i think it was february of 2002, and i had been riding my new yz125 for maybe a month at that point. I had only been riding a 2 stroke for probably 5 months too. I did ok and holeshot my 1st moto, but then went down, and again, and again, and then one more time for good measure.

sounds like you rode a few of the same years as I did .. i'd bet we know a few of the same people ...

1973, Rabbit Run MX, Yamaha LT1 100, Way back in the pack in the first moto. Worst thing? Got beat by a girl (Diane Flowers) in the first moto. Was determined to at least finish one of the next two motos (yeah, that was the [i:1c0ee]old[/i:1c0ee] days) ahead of her. I did. Barely.

1993 maybe ... what can I say, I was a late starter. CRC Series at LACR. Got a great jump off the gate and then some guy fell right in front of me in the first turn and pinned me to the fence while the entire gate funneled by on the left.

Made it back to 5th on the mighty '89 CR500. Seemed like everyone in the Vet class had a 20 year head start on me. Just made me work harder to catch up.

1st race in 1972.9 years old. Somewhere in West-by-god-Virginia. We got lost on the way to finding this track.Way late.No practice.I'm on my Yamaha Mini enduro 60.Had to put a pie plate on and electrical tape numbers.I was scared shitless.Got lost on the track since I had no practice and it went through the woods.Completed 1 lap out of the 6.Dad didn't know where I was since I didn't come around.Even with all that,it became my greatest love and at 43 I still live for this stuff.

1976 on a Honda MR 50 at a local track in surburban Western Australia. I had just turned 5 and was going to be racing in the upto 8 years class. I was a tiny little fucker and looking at the other bigger kids on the start line got me all nervous so i jumped off the bike and ran to the car and locked myself in it lol. After a bit of coaxing from my folks i got out and went to the line and raced, finished near the back, not last though haha

September 1995 Englishtown. Ran +30C on my new '96 KX 125. Didn't finish last, but was pretty close to it.

I was obviously pretty underpowered for that class, so I soon discovered the 125C class & learned how to dodge crazy 14 year-olds. Finally bought a 250 in '98.

August 14th, 2004, 7-8 in the 125D class. Then proceeded to get 4th the next 3 races, won the season opener the next year, floundered around midpack in C for half a year, then suddenly the next race I was battling for the lead, and I picked up speed real fast after that, now after only riding twice since October, I didn't even qualify for the main at Arenacross last weekend, needless to say I was a little pissed. A lot of Sandbaggers, a lot (C riders should not be tripling through rythm sections that haven't been changed since the pro nights). That, and I rode shitty " title="Sad">

[color=red:9a400]I wouldn't call them sandbaggers...its almost an unwritten rule that everyone drops a class for AX. I don't know why though.

I was expecting to have a few sandbaggers, but there were a lot, there were 3 heats full of C, all of them had second row starters.
And everybody does drop down for AX, and it pisses me off. The real fast B riders that specialize in B make the rest of the B riders want to drop dpwn to C, and my friend always drops down to D whenever a race like this comes up, but I didn't like the idea of stealing positions away from other people, I knew how much it would piss me off, so I stayed in C. I probably would have made the main, but in my semi, which was basically the LCQ, everybody was crashing, right in front of me. I constantly had to slow down and roll jumps, I only got to actually jump through the rythm sections like 1 time and only got to do the catapault for the last 2 laps due to lappers and crashes, then on the last lap the only way around the downed rider in front of me was off the track, and I couldn't re enter until after the rythm section, letting like 5 people by. Oh well, at least I got to ride.

Summer of 1980 at Austin Raceways in Austin, Manitoba on my 79 RM80. Can't remember much other than I got second to last place in 80b. Last place was this kid with a full face street bike helmet on, visor and all, and I remember thinking what a geek I can't lose to him. Next race he had a new helmet and neither of us finished near the back, and we had some great races together over the next few years. Can't remember his name for the life of me though.

Man I miss that track. Made Southwick look like a walk in the park, deep deep sand and whoops as far as the eye could see. Never seen anyplace like it since. Saw and had some epic races there. Was the place I saw the first water-cooled dirt bike (in person) in my life when Can-Am was running factory bikes and the nationals came to town. Handmade cone pipe and all it's sand-cast cases cobbled looking glory. Their works bikes were custom built man. Everything on the bike looked on-off and cobby as hell. Still had me drooling like crazy though.

The old Conroe track was actually about a mile north of 3-Palms on the north side of the river. I stopped on the side of the road a few years ago and walked out into the brush, as beaten down as it was, you could still make out much of the old track. I kicked the tree that almost killed me while I was there. Stupid tree.

1995 Mammoth Motocross I was severly lapped. After watching it all those years I finally had the money to buy a bike and enter. I think I got in four laps and boy those laps were tough.

1977 Corona Raceway, Leap Year Grand Prix.

Rode 125cc Beginner, fell down like 5 times and finished 29th out of 33.

You would think I would have gave it up..........but since, I've raced on a constant basis for the last 29 years.

April something, 1975 on a brand spanking new 1975 Suzuki RM 125 at OCIR.

My first race was 1968, when I was 16, on a well-used DT-1 250 Yamaha. It still had the 19" front wheel with a trials-tread pattern tire, and low metal fender, but I had a knobby (mostly worn out) on the back!

The race was put on by a So Cal club calling themselves "Hi-Jinx Family Motocross". I think the location was in the desert near Perris Raceway, which at the time was not a motocross track, but a flat-track/TT facility.

Highs: I raced the three motos and pretended I was my moto racer hero Tim Hart the whole time. I ended up second place, presumably in the beginner class. As everyone finished their final moto, they were handed a cold can of Coors beer! Even me at 16 years! Cooool!

Lows: No trophy on race day. .. had to show up on the bad side of LA three weeks later at a Shakey's Pizza...I never went, so no first race trophy.

I went into the back of my van and found the empty Coors can. straightened it out and glued it to a piece of wood along with a Dynamo sticker giving the details...that would be my trophy.

I beleive my first race was 1973. Ascot park in Gardena, CA. I raced 125 beginner on a 1972 Yamaha 125 enduro (minus lights and blinkers) It had preston petty plastic fenders and knobby tires. I came in 2nd overall.

I got a Suzuki TM125 pretty soon after that and racing was much more fun

hey highsider your right about perris raceway in the 60s and 70s it was a tt track and a scramble track which ever we called it.thats were i got my first trophy in 1969 in the 100cc bigginer glass on a pressed frame yamaha 80. every body else got brand new kawasaki 100cc green streaks and started winning everything.my dad got a new 250green streak in 68 it was the bomb till yamaha came out with the 250 yamaha with the git kit and took over from there.got me a brand new69 yamaha 125 that xmas in 69 and started winning races at rawhide and corona and a couple at the tt track they had in elisnore'never raced saddleback till 75 but allways went there to watch the big boys race,the great white dolemite.

First time I ever had arm pump! I remember reading about it in the mags for years but had no idea what the hell it was?? and I had been riding since 1978


1 lap into my first moto........ I knew what Arm pump was.

1981 Ascot Park in the 80 jr class on my 79' YZ80. It was so much fun! I ended up 3rd overall and got a trophy, pretty cool for a 12 year old.
