Another problem with the huge jumps is that it does NOT help the racing, it hurts it. No rider wants to jump them side by side and they often become one-lined.
Hangtown was awesome with plenty of passing due to whoops, ruts, off-cambers, limited grooming, and ruts. Additionally, the Double-Displacement supplemental rule in AMA Pro Racing needs abolished.

I don't care for that novelty kind of stuff, what mx track has rock cliffs? I also didn't like the crazy SX rhythm section they had that made A1 look tame. The big jumps are fine, normal stuff for the outdoor tracks around here.
Sometimes the guys at GH do weird stuff that's for sure.
The uphill at Lake Whitney used to get pretty bad and it was fun. Towards the top of the hill the topsoil would erode away to the limestone underneath creating holes and cliffs. If it's natural erosion/conditions I don't care. It's the human made stuff that bothers me.

They actually ran this line at a WORCS race in I think 2011. I remember it being stupid because in offroad you ride with multiple classes at once so it wouldn't be that surprising if a pro landed on a B rider. Seems like a little much for a race with 40 riders, regardless of skill level. These types of jumps really don't make for better racing, just more dangerous racing

looking more like Skeletor than Evil-lyn.

DC will have the track looking fine. That won't stop people from whining on here. This place is the National Enquirer of MX.

Gang, we got this. Jody and Karl will have a superb Glen Helen, I have no doubt. Every track requires a little tweaking. Does anyone remember the Dean Wilson bunny-hop at Ironman that my brother-in-law built? It was gone after one press day practice session. Remember the High Point not-meant-to-be downhill double that Bradley Taft and Blake Baggett somehow did? It lasted one press-day practice session.

We talk to the riders and teams every week and we make adjustments so they feel comfortable, put on a good, competitive race, and hopefully ride on to the next race.

You gotta admit, that bunny hop from Wilson took some balls and was bad ass though!!!

I am headed to Glen Helen now. Like Mr. Info said, Jody and I will work together on making appropriate changes, it always starts at one point and ends up at another. I hear the riders and team managers loud and clear. We will get to work at Glen Helen this afternoon.

For what it's worth, I thought we had a great race yesterday at Hangtown, no transports, no massive 150-footer and some really good racing on a rough, challenging racetrack. Congratulations to the Dirt Diggers North M/C on making their 50th Hangtown Classic one of their very best.

We have 44 motos to go in this championship and we want to get everyone to the finish line safely.

It's worth a lot. The racing at Hangtown yesterday was awesome and everyone got to go home.
Hell yeah DC! Glad you are listening to the rider's on this one. And I agree about Hangtown too. Not tilled as deep , get's hard packed , rough in a different way.......this is a good thing to do in my opinion. Keep the prep and so forth different between rounds. The old " Slot-car racing " , ruts from hell type tracks just make the racing less exciting anyways. Open's up way more lines when the track's aren't tilled as deep.

Seeing Steinke busting heel clickers on that massive step up almost every lap on a sketch25 a few years ago was very very entertaining. Plus side riders could see the whole jump and would double if there was a chance of landing on someone. But yeah probably shouldn't be in racing if the riders agree on it. They are the ones risking everything for our entertainment.

Thank you for taking rider safety seriously. End of long motos with rough track conditions that second jump could have been disastrous.

Watching them blitz the FLY 15 was way cooler to me pointing out technique to my son than some airtime. Especially after we raced on Friday on the same whoops.

Well I guess I'll be the guy everyone disagrees with, I like the booters, I fuckin love em, It's entertaining as hell! these guys are professional motorcycle racers right?

I hated seeing Seely's injuries, I love that guy, but that was a technical error was it not?

I hear you for sure, but if you were standing beside the FLY 15 when they went through, pinned. It was cool.

Not to mention that the new entry level E bike has three to four times the torque of the current crop of double displacement motocross bikes. Give it a few years of development, better battery technology and some competition from other mfgs and everyone will be racing bikes with 200 ft pounds of instantly available torque.
Not sure what a double displacement motocross bike is ?

Double displacement 125 2/ = 250 4/ and 250 2/ = 450 4/, i get that 450 isn't double but remember the KTM 505's?

I think the riders and fans see a significant difference between unintentionally sketchy options that a pro rider might discover and with great effort try on a track, and those that are unsafe and built deliberately as showcase features.

The fact that several champions made time during last weekend's post-race press conferences to plead for attention at that specific venue speaks volumes about the differences between what was going on at Glen Helen versus the much less significant Dean Wilson bunny hop type stuff.

I can appreciate that you're in a position to have to tread the line between being an advocate for the series and the riders' needs at the same time, but downplaying the situation as being nothing out of the ordinary or not warranting the concern that's being expressed here comes off as a bit disingenuous and therefore as part of the problem itself.

As much as I agree these jumps need tamed down, especially at Glen Helen, someone mentioned Ironman in Indiana has having to big of jumps.

I will kindly disagree. I'm a 49 yr old vet rider and I have hit the triple step up and its really not that hard. I have never hit the Godzilla jump as they have never ran that section for the amateurs but hearing from the people that have hit both, its easier than the triple step up.

Imo, Ironman is about the perfect combination of jumps, sizes and shapes. Red bud and Millville being the others.

And Loroccos leap and Ironman triple step up absolutely DO affect the racing. Big difference in time if not hitting them.

My 16 yr old B rider has also hit the Ironman step up also. and there where numerous B riders and 45+ vet riders hitting it at the Regional last year.

Now the Fly 150 and the old Glen Helen 180 are just way too much.

I wasn't downplaying anything, nor trying to be disingenuous. I literally went straight to Glen Helen on Sunday morning after Hangtown to see what the riders were talking about. I have deep concerns with rider safety. The riders saw the Glen Helen jumps before I did and they expressed their concerns, and I am addressing them.

Thanks for doing something about these big jumps.......but I still disagree with you about the Wilson bunny hop. ME and my kid ( 16 yr old B rider) were discussing this option standing beside the track when Wilson did it.

Yes there were risks, but not a huge amount.

I will give you credit though, after me bitching and whining for years for you to add 250 smokers into the Schoolboy 2 class, you finally made it happen. Unfortunately it came into effect the year we stopped riding the schoolboy class, lol

Not lets get 250 smokers legal in the 250 class.............yea, it really sounds that weird that 250s are not allowed in the 250 class. With modern 4 stroke 250s making over 55 hp, there is no reason why we cant have equal displacement racing.

What is odd is that Jody writes editorials in MXA about how motocross is too much about jumps, bikes need to spend more time on the ground. But each year Glen Helen has some of the gnarliest jumps on the circuit (like that huge double before the sand section last year that everyone was shorting). I think the big jumps are fun for the viewers, but Jody talks out of both sides of his mouth...

To add, I have proven time and again on more than one dyno that the actual numbers always fall short of what's advertised in the magazines. Not that I really care, but the 55hp # made my eyes bug out.

I'm sorry that you are miss informed and are not quite is up to speed on what a motor builder can get out of a 250 four stroke, but rest assured, 55 hp from a 250f is an easy number to achieve, let alone what the factories can get.

Need to do a little research before you post. It's like that old saying about "removing all doubt" It might help you out in the future. There is plenty of info out there to help you learn what is capable these days in the 250 class. And I dont think they run a pro stock class.

Track looked brutal on TV. No need to change anything except getting more riders who have a chance at a podium to the races.

Supercross has made this sport a meat grinder. Quad jumps and insanely fast rhythm sections have transformed this sport into a blood bath and it has found its way onto the outdoor tracks more and more over the years. Since SX occurs before the outdoor series it is directly responsible for the depletion of the field for the outdoors. The financial interest for the riders seems to be 95% supercross and 5% outdoors.

Racing is racing and it is all relative. Personally I would like a world were riders are not allowed to compete in both series. Never going to happen I know but if the mcf's cut SX salaries by 20% and moved that budget to a pro motocross series eventually there would be a rider interest to compete.

We don't need 5 riders making millions/yr with personal compounds, trainers, etc in the outdoors competing against the other 35 riders that don't. Those 5 should be SX only. That alone would make the racing better.

Hmmm, I've been around Geico's race shop enough to know 55HP hasn't ever come out of their 250s...and not close either...

KTM's shop dyno as well...

Who ever's dyno your referencing is reading some fairly high numbers...

Having been at that event (and jumped it that year) versus what Glen Helen had built this year the week prior...this years was stupid, it had such a weird pocket to time which could easily hurt you. The worcs one was a plateau style landing, there's wasn't a lot of though to it, just go fast.
