Thanks all. Just had my consultation with the surgeon who will be working on me later today, sounds like it’s going to be a hell of an operation and the chances of ever having a normally functioning shoulder again are slim to none. All I can do is hope the surgery goes as well as possible and put 100% into rehab. This is likely going to be a life changer.
Fark!!! Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope end result is better than the prognosis

I am hoping the Doc is being overly cautious.

I have been told about major limitations in things like range of motion and strength after recovery but in my case it has always been better than the Doc said it would be.

Here's hoping the same goes for you. Good luck with the surgery and rehab, rehab, rehab.

Get well soon, BUT why would anyone not doing moto for a living do a jump that big? I don't even understand why a local track would make a jump like that? Guess it's my old showing...... Good luck and heal fast.

Because it’s fun, really.. it’s not a do or die jump, I’ve come up short and overjumped it worse before. The problem isn’t with the obstacle, it was with me not knowing when to quit.

Been there too, swapped out on my 500, that “one last quick moto”, before I quit. Corked a tree, bars in the sternum, cracked it, and a concussion. Sucks, but it happens. Hey, you want me to post that pic you sent, of you in the gown?

Sorry to hear about your crash buddy. I know it sucks for you and I hope you can make a speedy recovery !
About that shoulder, I had a similar injury about 9 yrs ago. I'll never throw a fast ball again, but you would be
surprised how little range of motion needed to ride a motocross bike. Hang in there Cam, you can do it !

Docs usually don't give you the best case senario.
They'll do the best they can, then it's up to you with rehab. Take it seriously and never give up. Good luck to you.

Completely correct. When I had my really bad wreck in 2005 , one of my injuries was a crushed left hand. On top of losing part of my middle finger , both that finger and my index finger had the big knuckles crushed. Doctor said I would be lucky to get 30% movement and would probably never be able to close it to a fist. I put that had in damn near simmering water , popped and cracked my hand to the point of tears and burned skin. I have a good 98% close fist now , even though my index figer knuckle on my hand is back 3/4" then where it used to be. It was worth the pain.

Good luck buddy. I’m still coming back from a humerus break about two years ago. I had nerve damage that left me unable to move my wrist or fingers at all for 8 or so months. They have come back to about 75% and I’m still hopeful. For some reason my first surgeon asked if I was a professional and when I said no, he seemed to change his approach. Maybe that might change the path they take vs being conservative? Maybe something you may want to experiment with? Praying for you bud.

Otherwise from the surgical standpoint just try to comply with the plan of care being set for you. Early mobility, pain control etc....good luck man. Don’t consult doctor google. It will make you insane.
Agreed. Frozen shoulder and other locked joints take forever to get moving again. Get off the pain pills as soon as you can. After being on them for 3 months, I was having problems sleeping without them. Scary if you stop to think about it.

Yep, get off the pain meds as soon as possible.
You just have to face that the healing and rehab isn't going to be a pain free process, but in the long run you'll be better off for it.

Does the Canadian healthcare system cover this type of thing 100%? If not, how does it work for an accident such as this?
Yes it does. I busted my pelvis and thumb a couple years back out riding, absolutely no cost to me and my extended benefits payed 75% of my wages!

Get the best shoulder specialist in your area. Don't trust anyone UNLESS, they make their living doing nothing but shoulders. I wish I would have.

Sorry to hear about you crash.
Been there. Best advice I can give you is do all the therapy you can to heal up after getting out of the hospital. With time you will heal. For me as an older vet rider my last bad crash was in 07 where I had a couple of surgeries & had cadaver bones put in. Had to be off work for 5-6 months to recover (per the doc), but went back 4 months later due to needing to financially survive.
I was never the same psychologically being able to ride & take the risks at the pace I use to when I was in my teens through 30's. Get well...

Heal up, man. Keep your mind right when the PT starts grinding.
