For those who say it doesn't matter that All Out doesn't have the upper echelon riders, or real tracks or Heats, Semis, LCQs, full mains and a full season points series, let me ask you this.
You guys play other sports games, right? Or at least grew up on them. The Show, Madden, NBA2K, NHL, Fifa, Nascar, MXGP, MotoGP? So how much value would say Madden have if only about 20% of the real players and none of the real teams or arenas were there? Also, how about if you couldn't play a full career or season mode going thru the playoffs on to the Super Bowl? All you could play is one game stuff. I mean, if I'm a football fan...which I'm not, btw,.. then I'm out at that point. It would be the game doing a horrible recreation of the sport it is trying to emulate. You just don't have a lot to play for, long term.
To me...and, it is just my opinion...that is the MVA series. It can be fun, certain iterations, but it basically is for fun one off races with someone online or a buddy. And hey, that's perfectly legit. But you don't get that immersion of a full season or career running thru all the qualifying, heats, semis, the pressures of the lcqs and mains and the tension of a full battle 17 weeks long in a points series. It simply IS NOT there. It IS there in Milestone's games. It was also there when EA Sports did EA Supercross 2000. That's pretty much about it for our sport and console wise.
MES' AI can be off and sketchy at times but at least they have all the riders and they generally are in the ballpark finish wise as they are in real life. So thus it actually makes somewhat sense if you're playing Championship season mode. In other words, if you're playing NHL, Crosby isn't dead last in the NHL in points. It's just not right.
It's two totally opposite approaches. Both valid. MES and MXGP are for the fans who want to recreate their sports series ala Madden, 2k, Fifa, etc. MVA is for those who just want to casually race one off exhibition races with someone online or a buddy but has little interest in running a full season mode and the intricacies in each race's full day's events.
And I'm not making inferences. I am going by Rainbow's track record. Only in Unleashed did they have a somewhat legit season mode. The moon physics killed it for me and mile wide tracks but hey they sorta did the series right. Reflex kinda had something but then the mains were a flimsy 3 laps long. Pointless. Encore had a season mode (no heats, semis, lcqs, though) but you couldn't pick your riders and the AI Pro riders were so random it made very little sense 5 races in. They followed that up with a good try at replica tracks then dumbed it down by not being able to make a custom full series with the real tracks. That was pretty inexcusable.
It's just two different approaches. Some just want to fire up and race, some want the immersion of actually recreating our sport. It's good we have both games that should please both crowds but it is DEF different ways of doing it. MVA does include lots of different aspects like ATVs, UTVs, Freestyle...so it's kinda dirt jack of all trades, master of none. But if you dig that stuff you do get more variety.
I'm actually a bit surprised. Even though most love MES, I still think people underestimate the enormity of what Milestone pulled off and it has been taken for granted. There is a LOT in this game...without DLC...right from get go and though we were told it was impossible it is all about 99% #authenticity.
But I digress. I think MVA does some things right. Hands down, the best third person cam between the two and I love the custom camera.
If you prefer MVA, great. Play it. I'll buy it and hopefully enjoy it but I know beforehand it's job is not to have a blast recreating the actual series. But hey, if it's just fun then that's all good too. Nothing wrong with that and I am glad we have both making enough money to keep their respective franchises going profitably.
the biggest problem is how repetitive it is. no reason to do anything once you've won all 3 championships. the online portion is garbage even when it works decent.
I enjoy it. I'm thankful for it. But its getting old fast.
I'm really looking forward to have MvA to play also.
To each his own. I'll get it and it does look better than Encore which I didn't care for at all. Rainbow frustrates me with their game design, though, I can't deny. But hey, that's just me. I've always wanted the 2K of SX and MX so that's just what enjoy.
But again, All Out looks much better and at least the market has two developers making Moto games. Milestone seems to replicate their specified series really well and MVA does a lot for the casual fan so it's a win win with both based being somewhat covered..
I will say though that playing it with collisions on is incredibly frustrating. The amount of people that t-bone you in the corner because they know it will send you flying off the track makes the game far less enjoyable... even more so when you hear the dude scream out, "punted the fucker".
literally the entire article could be changed to say Monster Energy Supercross the Game, in place of Gravel, and it would be word for word on MES.
Pit Row
Took a lot of the fun out of it.
Trust me, if they would make the scale sensible and keep the game speed in check...which thankfully All Out seems much better at...and could somehow land the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross replica tracks and better yet a full MX series my opinionated ass would be All In!
it is mind boggling how redundant you are. MES is out now. we have all played it.
we know
