Anybody had problem with their fuel pump on their KTM ?

can buy pumps on ebay for 50-60 usd. on my 2013 it went dead after 100h. since then i always change the big filter i side the tank connected to fuel pump package every 40h. never had a problem since then on last 4 bikes.

i understand the pump can die, so full of shit that big filter is already at 30h since tank releases a lot of stuff first hours.

It's true. I built an inline fuel pressure gauge to test mine. I'm getting 50 PSI at idle and also when revving it. My buddy was having issues with his bike running like crap, his was about 40 at idle, but down to 10 when revving it. There are plenty of threads on KTMTALK about it.
I WAs talking about Keefer having multiple failures. My old mans went, no denying there was an issue.

Like i mentioned in my first post in this thread.

As long as you use clean fuel and filter it + change the small fuel filter every ~15 hours you wont have any problems.

Mine didn’t totally crap out it just overheated on my 2011 350. It would stop working until it cooled down.

09 Bergs and 11 KTM’s had lots of pump issues. Lots of people were putting in new OEM spec replacement pumps in those bikes. The 12 KTM’s had a different pump that was not as bad.

I'm not going to go searching for it just because you don't believe me. This year at Loretta's he said he had a bunch of problems and went to the fuel filter first because of past experiences. I believe he actually missed a moto at Loretta's due to the issues.

Keefer did mention the KTM having fuel pump issues. If memory serves me correctly his main problem was with a relay. Fuel pump itself wasn't bad....

Yeah well i have a lot of friends that ride KTMs and those who make sure the fuel isn't dirty and change the small fuel filter regularly has never had issues.

One other friend that never changed the small fuel filter and doesn't filter the fuel had issues with the pump on 2 of his bikes.

That is my experience with the KTM fuelpumps. They seem to be fragile.

Had pumps fail pretty early on 2010 Berg 390 and 2010 KTM 690.

Replaced with ca-cycleworks pumps and never had another failure.

It’s an easy fix, just not a cheap fix. Takes like 15-20 minutes to change it out. I swapped mine out before it went bad and the line was kinked.(2015.5 250SXF-FE)
I had this on my 2016 350 SX-F. One fuel line was kinked inside the tank by, I assume, the factory just stuffing it inside the tank when it was built (photos below). At first KTM wouldn't do anything for me, but then a couple months later they somehow changed their mind and replaced the whole fuel pump assembly for free. Great customer service, and thanks to my local dealer, Motobreck in Breckenridge, for fighting on my behalf.

So it was the fuel pump. Ktm covered all expenses .

I see people already chimed in.. Dirt is not your friend on these FI bikes. Buy some cheap insurance next time. Even when you are filling up your bike at a track, enough dust blowing around to get in the tank.

According to MXA, if you don't need or, want the premium bike, you should have no problem finding discounted deals on lesser machines!

Mine failed on my 2017 350 SXF most likely because of dirty fuel from the gas pump.

Now when I buy pump fuel, I always pour it into a second container using a filter before I put it in my bikes.

There have been some filters cracking on the newer ones and people have been replacing the entire pump when it only needs a filter. They are the same filter supplier (Mahle), but were made somewhere else. If you look in the tank and hit the starter button to make the pump run, the fuel appears to be boiling or bubbling. When they are tested they show low pressure of course because it is going out into the tank instead of the fuel line to the throttle body. My 2019 Husky did this.

Husqvarne FE350SThousands of miles in Baja & no problems...at all. Fresh Inner-Fuel filter(s) every-other trip. Fresh in-line filter (below tank) every service.

KTM 450 Track Bike 7 years: no problems. Same service habits as my Husky.

Note: I use VP race fuel on the KTM. Husky: I empty and clean the tank after Baja trips.

Pretty sure you always tear-down and rebuild a new bike, right? (I'm assuming you check the internal fuel-line routing)

Problem with the gas line is that their made to fit the XC tank also so the gas line is on the long side.

You can extend your fuel pump life by using a fuel tank sock.
Of course the only real cure is to get away from EFI and go back to carbs, but I don't see that happening.

Filter failure at 10-15 hours, replaced the whole assembly before I discovered the filter was the culprit. The new pump lasted 30 hours, married the good filter to the original pump and it’s working now. Dealer said that Renegade fuel has caused issues, but this one has only run on pump premium.

Yep, same thing happened to mine. The newer Mahle filters that are splitting are made in Turkey, while the older ones made in Austria are good.
