The 2018 YZ65 has the YPVS power valve yet the 2018 YZ85 doesn't?

Haven't seen a 85, did they say something about one in the press release?

Remember always hoping companies would style their little bikes after the full size 125 and 250? Yamaha big bikes are so ancient that people are now wishing they'll redesign the 125 and 250 to be like the 65. Laughing

Yep!Laughing

What I always found odd was that Yamaha had full coverage tank/radiator shrouds all the way back in the early 1990's yet they never found their way onto the motocross bikes. Anyone remember the WR200?

Had a brand new one in 92. Slow and the forks sucked but I'd jump at the chance to buy one and pay way too much for one today. ?

I dunno if I’d be too excited about a KX100 price on a 65 from Japan. But, hey, that’s jus’ me.

Agreed. I have 2 years before buying 2 65s for my kid and my nephew. Unless the bike is amazingly great its prob gonna be Kx65s or Cobras. but I don't know enough yet. I will be researching for the next 2 years before buying.
#1 priority is reliability. I am very busy and will have an Alta for myself just to save time in the garage.
#2 value for $ spent.

That was my first thought, maybe Yammy will go back to the steel frame also, probably not, but it would be a big hit if they did so.

Agree. Owned a couple of AF YZ250's (09 & 12) & felt Yamaha went backwards vs. the steel frame version. The 02 & 04 steel frame models owned felt better to me for mx use. AF version YZ's felt rigid like the 97 & 01 CR2's owned.

A Cobra CX65 costs even more than the new YZ65 so not sure why you're suggesting you'd get one over a YZ65.

Yep, I started my 15 year old son on an 04 YZ125 that was mint, I had more fun on that bike than any bike I've thrown a leg over, if my weight was about 40 lbs. lighter, the 04 YZ125 would be in the garage, next to my 06 CR250.

The guys under the Yamaha tent at Loretta’s said there would be a new 65 for 18 and a new 85 for 19. They said the big bikes would remain the same since they are selling everyone they make. Hopefully we will see new big bikes sometime in the near future.

The KX is very outdated. It’s ok as a playbike but it’s by no means a race bike. By that time there will be plenty of used YZ 65s and Ktm 65s if price is a concern.

From what I can tell its still cheaper than the KTM? But lets compare apples to oranges (yz65 and kx100 lol). With that said I do respect 90% of your posts and realize you probably don't like the KTM price either. Regarding the 85, I dont think we will see it until next year (what ive been told, but could be wrong ofc) and yeah with a power valve.

If those are your 2 concerns then...

(A) why would you ever buy a Cobra

(B.) the Yamaha yz65 is EXACTLY what you’re looking for

He isn't comparing a YZ65 to a KX100.

He said he's not excited about a YZ65 costing the same as a KX100.

So hes comparing the yz65 price to kx100 price, but not comparing them? Interesting..

But then, if you compare the price of the YZ65 to that of a 450 SXF- FE, it's very cheap!

Hope Yamaha doesn't change the 125 so my '06 YZ keeps holding the same value it has for the last 10 years!

Not to confuse anyone here, but the KTM SX 50 is listed at $4099 and the SXS 50 is $5299.
So the $4599 YZ65 price isn’t sounding all that bad.

Still waiting to see the price on the “special edition” YZ65. Yes... they have one coming and it’ll likely be $500+ more than the standard model.

If you walked up and handed a motocrosser $20 he'd bitch about how you gave him 2 $10's and not a $20

long time, close friends with a family that owns 2 yamaha dealerships and they told me yamaha is only producing 200 of these bikes to meet homologation rules between now and lorettas in august, and that only a very few out of the total 1100 dealerships across the US will even be receiving any, only the top revenue producing stores in the country. he says they are only getting one per store. didnt mention anything about this "special edition" you speak of though
