I wish their was more vocal support for non military solutions. Big upping the Military, the guns, just feeds the military industrial complex. Feeds into the minds that violence is the only answer, or at least the only answer that gets almost across the board appreciation.

Even when more civilians have been killed by drones in the last year than the 8 years before that, people are still hangin off the nutsack of the military. Its an absurd and childish mindset.

Thankyou for your service, but really we should thank the diplomats, the mitigators and those that come to peaceful resolutions far more than those pushed to the front line. Appreciatte those that prevent war, not those that perpetuite its 'cool' image. Preventing death, preventing war, and protecting Americans is far more American than what the military represents. Death and Destruction of civilians and their homes is not cool and should be condemned by everyone, but is ignored because like, the image is more important.

The military is the Chiropractor of global peace, it might do some god but it feels it needs to spend millions every year to associate itself with cool athletes. Self promoting how beneficial and neccesary it is to, and how much better it will be if you just fed it more money, and more guns, and more drones and more nuclear weapons, it will just be better, and coooooler. Hurah!

The graphics and one off gear is really fucking cool looking tho! I wish they did more gold stuff at the Vegas round also.
Yes because our military does nothing but instigate war... Blink

Currently deployed, active duty and a rider. Have never once asked for a military discount and don't on a day to day basis. It is not a right, yet so many treat it that way. I have friends I go out with who are constantly asking, honestly it irritates me and brings some negativity when service members feel entitled to a discount. But thats just my opinion.
I never ask for the discount either.. feels like charity to me. I signed up to do what I do and take advantage of the other benefits that come with it.. Like education, VA Loan and military healthcareLaughing

Everyone's opinion in here is fine with me positive or negative.

but more importantly.. Its race day!!

As for the US government paying for stuff, it's actually the tax payer paying for stuff.

Many thanks to all military personnel out there for your service.

We do home remodeling in the San Diego area. My estimates/pricing are always on the lowest end possible for current or ex military. They are way underpaid for what they do. For anyone who I know voted for Jerry Brown I had a good 20% to help cope with his criminal taxing policies.

Same here, if I’m doing work for someone that I know is ex or current military I always give them a discount. I don’t even give them a chance to ask about it. We do the same for police, fire, and teachers as well. All underpaid in my opinion.

Funny thing, the only people that have ASK me if I would give them a discount are never military or anything like that. Usually just cheap bastards with more money than me.

I'm the same way, I don't ask for a military discount and when veterans make a big deal about it, it honestly aggravates me. First responders and health care should get the same treatment but I've never seen them complain about it. I honestly didn't join for the discount at Finish Line. Take care over there and get back safe usafwx! Now if we can only get rid of the tacticool bro's who didn't even make it thru basic... ;-)

As most of us know, San Diego is always the “military appreciation” round of supercross and a lot of companies make limited edition gear for it. I saw a few companies post that they were selling it and for shits and giggles I emailed them and asked if there was a military discount for said gear. 4 out of 5 said no. Seriously? Good job appreciating.
if I may give a differing viewpoint...

I did 20 in the navy, as my father did, my son's both served.

I don't expect a handout.

I got paid, got to experience an amazing array of life, and trained extremely well. (and I'm still being paid.)

no one needs to give me a discount, tell me "thanks for your service" or show appreciation.

It's nice when they do, I say "your welcome".

but I already have been greatly benefited by signing the contract back in 81.

Why is that dirty? Who cares if they do get paid? All divisions of the military have marketing budgets and if they chose to spend some money in SX, that is bad somehow?

I continue to be so confused as to why the promoter responsible for the sport we love should be non profit.

Couldn't agree more. This deployment hopefully should be my last. Here's to that DD214 and thanks for your service brother.

Isn't the money spent advertising money for the military make the public more aware and maybe attract more people to enlist? I don't think that is dirty.

Personally I think that we can express our appreciation much more by making it easier for them to receive any and all benefits that they were promised when they enlisted.......

This thread is already dangerously close to "non moto" but as a retiree I'll take advantage of the opportunity to make a few comments about today's military. Firstly, our troops are second to none but all the branches are hurting bad. Too few people trying to do too much. Burn out causes too many good people to exit the service early. Lots of green hands and ROAD (retired on active duty) senior NCO's. The meat in the sandwich is pretty thin. Secondly, the infrastructure is completely neglected. Hangers, barracks, facilities, roads on bases that appear abandoned but must be used every day. Lastly, the deterioration of ethics and integrity from senior leadership. Men of weak character erode respect. The military ethos is based on trust garnered from respect. Our folks deserve better....and more money isn't the whole answer.

I think we over reach, use the military too much without solutions for predictable blow back, BUT that was the dumbest shit I have ever read.

I tried to ignore but failed-

So I'll make a few points:

1. Diplomacy is ineffective without the threat of the military solution. If you look back at history, when has anyone ever come to the bargaining table without the threat of force? If you have a good answer please provide it to me.

2. Most soldiers don't loook forward to killing people. I am sure that there are some psychopaths who do join up because they can kill without hiding it, but they occur with the same frequency as theose people appear in society at large. Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen want to come home in one piece, more importantly, they want those around them to come back in one piece.

3. War happens because the diplomats failed.

4. I have never asked for a military discount if one wasn't advertised, but I'll never turn it down. Plenty of people looking for something for nothing, I'll take a perk for something I did.

5. In the same vein as the above statement, I'm not a fan of hawks who pound their chest and proclaim their love of the military but do nothing to help. You don't owe us anything, but please don't shout your support of the military from the rooftops if is nothing but lip service.

X2. Well said. And Zacka 161, I bet you don’t have the balls to go up to an Australian service member and voice that opinion, let alone to a US Marine. Have some respect.
