Come on Bobby, you know Junior would be champ if only he had a trainer....

True story, local kid who is a decent rider but nothing special, overheard him telling his mom he needs to be home schooled so he can practice more to win...yeah don't think that's the magic ticket

50/65 have no business being out on the track with big bikes period. They get in the way they roll stuff can get and will get landed on. It's like having a beginner out with the pro's.

It's one thing I hate with a passion in the vet class is these vet beginner's who should be in the beginners class to many close calls with them. Especially when they act like they are gonna hit the jump then slam on thier brakes right at/on the face of the jump. The vet class is not a beginner class!!

My dad had that exact thing happen to him at red bud last year on amateur day. Ended up landing on the guy in practice and spent a night in the hospital with broken ribs, lacerated spleen and bruised lungs. The guy got on the brakes really hard on the launch pad(the jump that connects the two sides of the track together.

I was going to ask what this is going to do for you and the other media outlets... Will you and the mags be looking for other places to do the shootouts now?

Good.

For those of us that have road raced and done road racing trackdays, motocross's cavalier attitude towards safety is appalling, on many fronts.

Milestone gets especially overrun with foot traffic belonging to people that are utterly clueless about proper trackside etiquette.

Minibikes (like 50's and 65's) on the main tracks is absurd also.

This was my impression on my trip over there. WTF are all these little bikes doing on the track with the fast guys. I saw a 50 change lines on Jmart railing the outside and it put Jmart off the track, but he got straight back on and didn't even flinch... I guess it's a good training obstacle. It's hard to keep in your rhythm at Milestone.

Good. I hate having parents just standing around. I watched some asshat have a conversation with his kid while standing in the main rut on a corner a few weeks ago. It went on for five to ten minutes until he wandered off and stood on the outside of a fifth gear kink...

I would imagine that special exceptions will be made on special days.

This rule is meant to get the parents off the track.

When in reality they need to get the KIDS off the adult tracks and the adults off the kids tracks. Problem solved.

I'm not sure. I haven't had a chance to talk to the folks from the tracks.

Clearly many of you haven't been to a road race circuit.

They'll bust you for wearing flip flops on the pit wall.

Yeah, you could say I've ridden Chuckwalla 'a bit'..... (understatement). Including roadracing and corner working a bit with the SoCal Trackdays bunch. I also got married there, but that's a story for a different kind of thread. On hiatus at the moment from roadracing because expert top 5 / top 10 pace eats money and adds gray hairs to your head.... so mainly now just cruise around at trackways and have fun with the friends. That and act as pit bitch for my wife when she races her R6.

You?

Yep. Now just boot the little bikes and life will be good.

They should offer paid passes for photographers and maybe trainers.

So let me get this straight, they are worried about safety, but let mini bikes and full size bikes on the track at the same time?
1/15/2018 5:26pm
Coming from the east coast, I'm really happy that i can go to a track like Pala, Cahuilla, Milestone, etc and not have to worry about keeping track of classes during an open practice day. Its so much nicer just riding and resting as you see fit.

Some of you are mentioning that riders should be banned from riding certain tracks of a way lesser or way greater skill level. How the hell are you going to govern that? Sure it might be obvious by watching them on the track, but you'd have to have employees watching people out on the track and determining whether their skill level is good enough for that track. What if a guy feels comfortable on the tiny jumps on a vet track and wants to start learning how to hit some of the jumps on a main track? He can't do that? How will he progress?

Also, if you're talking about restricting people from riding certain tracks at a facility, do i get cheaper admission now that I'm only eligible to ride 1/3 or 2/3 of the tracks there? Fat chance...

Geared up mini riders have a better chance than mini moms looking the wrong way. Not saying its right, just weighing out the consequences.

Yes. Sorta.

TRANSLATION: a incident happened. Insurance got involved. Rules were changed.

Spinning it as a safety issue opened the door to call out hypocrisy (big bikes & little bikes on same track).

Many years ago, a well known "trainer" in the SoCal area had a group of kids on mini bikes at Perris cutting the track to do a jump section over and over. No one was policing these kids as they were pulling onto the track in a high speed third gear corner right before a big double. I came around the corner one lap and a kid on an 80 pulled right out in front of me. I plowed the kid and ran him over and dented my exhaust.

As far as I'm concerned, if a trainer wants to be out on the track working with a rider in certain sections, they need to have a private track for that purpose.

Now that I moved out of California, I must say that I appreciate the fact that practice days in my area are split up by bike size and ability level in the interest of safety.

How? It's pretty easy. I'll give you 3 real examples from this past month at Milestone...

Beginner Track: two guys on big bikes racing around the track as fast as they can. The kids on the 50/65/80's are basically learning to ride and these goons are launching everything and ripping up the kids track.

Vet Track: If you see a guy scrubbing/whipping the finish jump and blasting into the next corner 3rd gear pinned, he's got no business on the Vet track. Every time the Main track is getting watered, a few douches come over to the Vet track and start picking on the old guys. Diving under them in ruts at the last second, etc.

Main Track: progressing from the Vet track to the Main track at Milestone has nothing to do with the jumps. If you can clear the 2 bigger jumps on the Vet track, you can clear most the jumps on the Main track. If you cant, then you're clearly not on the pace and a flagger needs to boot you off the Main track.

There is literally not a easier facility Ive ever been too when it comes to helping a rider progress from one track to another than Milestone. When I first started riding I spent a week on the beginner track. Two months on the Vet track, and then the Main track was no problem to ride. I never felt the need to go back to the Vet track (it was boring). And I certainly wasnt gonna go be a dick to kids on the beginner track. People are straight up abusing the freedom Milestone allows.

As for getting cheaper admission... the very fact that Milestone offers so many options for various skill levels is a awesome thing. That doesnt entitle anyone to take advantage of it. Why a "B" rider would want to go terrorize the beginner track is beyond me. And certainly not grounds to be upset if kicked off that track.

Sounds like we won’t be shooting bikes at either track in the end future. One magazine tried shooting a new bike at Milestone today and supposedly we’re not allowed to anymore.

I'm just trying to say there are many guys like me (30+) that are good enough to get around any main track but enjoy hitting the vet track or other tracks equally as much. There are just some days where i don't feel like skying out massive jumps and would rather focus on corner speed and such, or just rip around with buddies that are afraid of the main track. Vet tracks are great for that because you don't have to worry about the massive jumps and can focus on corner practice. That said, I'm also the type of rider that respects young riders and lower skillset riders on the track and gives them their space. I have also been the guy that goes up to the Ronny Roll-all on the main track and explains that what he is doing is dangerous to himself and others.

I am a 52 year old rider, will be riding the Milestone vet track next week, when we rode last year stuck to the vet track. later in the afternoon might venture onto the main track for a couple of laps, that is after all the quick riders have gone home.

Why, because you don't think I should be able to go to the track and have fun with my friends?

This whole thing is stupid, it's always fun when you bring a friend out to film or get pictures, I don't see what the big deal is. A lot of tracks around here just have photographers wear a construction vest or something similar, seems like it works out really well. Some of you guys should worry a little more about yourselves and a little less about what others are doing.

They usually split our practices into C/D, A/B, and minis.

I have participated in several shootouts over the years. Whoever is putting on the shootout rents the track out for the day, so it isn’t an issue.

Do you ride so cal tracks? Pics and vid are fun/great but sitting on jumps, cutting people off to do a whip then turn off the track over n over can get old.
