They announced Carter Malcolm won the Championship and then took it away later.

That's complete BS.

So many riders, parents and even industry people think these "major" races are nationals. I hate to disappoint them, but there is only one AMA Amateur National Championship. Its at Loretta Lynn's. Only 42 of the best riders in the nation are qualified to race at the AMA Amateur Championship at Loretta Lynn's per class.

While its a big accomplishment to win a title at the Mini O's, your not the National Champion for winning there. You are the Mini O's Champion.
No.

The mini parents need to chill out. I have no idea what happened but it's "only" a 7-11 Mini-Os championship. There's a long way to go until the real championships in the 450 pro class... So many amateurs were the next big things and never did shit in the pros. They need to keep working, hustling, fighting. There's a lot of that left if they want to race for a pro championship in SX or MX. I only won 2 french national mini bike championship, 80s 12U & 80s 12-14 the year after. I sucked in schoolboy and 80 12-16 but I won a bunch of races that mattered and paid very well as a pro. Parents, keep your eyes on the prize far away and do what it takes to get there. The results/championships present, as a 7-11 rider, are very important other than getting few free bottle of oils and a few sets of gear...
Have you ever raced pro bro?

We are talking 7 to 11 year olds on a 65cc bike?

They should ban all of these type of races......good lord.
11/24/2017 9:16am
Not that I can understand what a lap time has to do with who crossed the line first but a 7-11 year old that said something like "I just try to keep telling myself that everything happens for a reason" should be disqualified as a matter of principle Cool

I thought I had remembered hearing them involved in other protests, but I couldn't remember for sure. The timing and scoring that richardwhite posted shows Deegan winning by .049, so this time it seems legit, but they should have figured that out before they awarded the championship
Protests?

Being its Deegans kid, you know the bike is suspect. Once you're popped once.......

It's competition. Even Dog racing has massive cheating going on.

I would like to see a video at the line to see who actually won. Having met the Malcolms, I know they are not the stereotypical crazy mini parent. It is bs that they awarded him the championship then took it away, and the identity of the opposing party also raises some questions about the outcome being legit. We will definitely be seeing more of this kid in the future.

Fuel had nothing to do with who won, it was the AMA and their BS.

I thought once you raced C class at Loretta Lynn's you were immediately advanced to B class following the race. The same guy that won the C class at Loretta's has now won C class at the Mini O's. Time for the ole' boy from Texas to put his big boy pants on and move on to the B class.

But hey, he's collecting those "national" championships.

It is only drama if you allow it to be.......

Looks to me like the only issue is who crossed the line first.

Even an announced a winner is subject to protest/penalty/scoring correction.

C riders can stay in the C class for the full calendar year. If they qualified for Loretta's, they must move up on January 1st of the next year.

Kids look up to these kids that make it to the big races, even kids in 20th are extremely talented and idolized when they race at home where other kids look up to them, so to say that 65 7-11 class doesn’t matter isn’t cool to even say let alone see so many agree it doesn’t matter, it’s a huge deal to not only the riders and parents but his entire community back home watching, so let’s just move on from that debate.

If the rider (carter) crossed the finish at the exact same time as deegan and they can’t find any difference then they maybe ended up using the same system in pro racing when a racer ties in points, the racer who wins more mains wins the championship, so in theory maybe deegan led more laps which would mean he wins the tie breaker?

Now if carter passed the finish line a tiny bit ahead of deegan then I could see this being really messed up, do they have a camera at the finish line to go back and look at? I still say if it’s tied on the transponder then they tied, tie breaker would go to the rider who led the race longest.. But I’m not sure if there is a rule for amateur racing on a tie situation, I figured transponders could find the smallest difference...

Some sports parents can go way over the top, I have experienced it coaching youth hockey.
I think it's better in the long run to get over it and move on as quickly as possible.
Whining about it in public just makes you look bad.
In any youth sport where the child is being groomed to hopefully make it to the professional level will undoubtedly face many hardships and disappointments along the way.
How you as a parent deal with it sends a message to your kid and message can either help him or hurt him deal with future hardships and disappointments.
Learning how to loose with class is as important as winning with class.

No its at the end of the year.

But that isn't the biggest BS part of it. The kid that got 2nd is/was a local B rider for the last 2 years, finishing top 10 in regionals in the B class and then called is buddy that's on the AMA board and got moved to the C class for this year and raced Lorettas and now Mini O's in the C class, even though he is a local to 4 or 5 guy in the B class for the last 2 years. Even finishing top 3 in a series that is run by said person connected to the AMA that got him bumped back to C.

Would love to know the excuse for moving back since he has not been injured and has not stopped racing.

With all do respect to DV12 as I agree with his overall point, they were not giving "rides" to 65 riders back in your day like they are now.

There are several riders these days getting bikes, parts budgets, gear, tires and a bunch of other stuff in the 65 class so the difference between 2nd and 1st is huge.

But the powers to be would have seen that this kid is clearly faster, lap times say it all and I do not think that him not getting the #1 spot is going to hurt his future.

This makes me boiling mad, really sucks for the kids that are trying come up.

I saw a name on the list that ran all 4 C classes this week at miniO's, same kid rode D, B&C, and A at our first local race of the year. He really ran every class from novice to pro.... Promoter caught it and told him to pick a class... Our local series combined B&C class and calls it "intermediate" now trying to avoid this problem. I have been told he went to Lorettas in the C class in the past. He took a C class win from my son last year with a last lap pass, does it piss me off, yep... I told my son to work to use it as fuel, look at the bright side of it and learn from it....

This is a sport where less than 1% of racers make it to your level.

The fact is, there is a good chance that #67 will amount to nothing, in terms of racing motocross. So, with that said, maybe in 10 years this championship means a lot to him, when he is done with racing and going to college or something.

I'd be pissed, too... but that's just my perspective; from a "never was". I think individual opinions about how important the race is can be influenced by our own personal achievements. DV, you've got most beat by a landslide... no wonder this doesn't seem like a big deal to you.

It takes a ton of money, time, and effort for these families to make these races. Hate to disagree with DV but there is money on the line. Some big names on that list already, bike and gear contracts on the line. I'd say it is a very big deal.... Spend several grand to go to a race only to have a win stripped would piss me off too.... I have no idea what happened and whom is right, just sayin....

Some of these kids get a garage full of bikes, parts and gear.... Adds up quickly... I'd be willing to bet some of the top kids fair much better than some of the privaters in the big show....

And that’s a part of the problem... “spend several grand to go to a race” several grand on one race.... That’s nuts and definitely not fair heaping that pressure on a kid that would have just as much fun racing his mates at a local track...
I’m with DV the whole way on this.
PS yes I have a son, he’s 15, he’s had a crf50, a TM85 and now has an XR250 that we have built together into a full Motocross spec, he rides but has never raced, he will start next year at 16, when it will be his choice, bikes, where he races etc NO pressure from me, keeping it fun.
Why are you comparing your son, who might ride on a motocross track with an XR 250, with a kid who just battled for a win at mini o's. Of course your son, and you, have a different opinion of fun. You're not at the "elite" level of the sport, for your sons age.. not even close.
