YZ250 is not approved for the 450 class. Only the KTM and Husky 250 2 strokes are approved.

Link shows the approved models by class

Wow I thought every newer bike released from the big companies would be homologated. Really strange why Yamaha decided not to homologate any of their two-strokes.

Also no TMs or any other exotic brand.

You start to wonder if the homologation process might be to complicated or expensive Tongue

That, is great .. what happened to the 450 he was offered ?

Either way, great to see he has a ride.
Wasn't on my end . I was told not to bring my 17 450. Yamaha suppose to help out or yesterday he thought so . Could've changed . But he did mention he would ride a 2 stroke if not .

Hope it's got suspension but besides that he'll do just as good minus the start

Now I'm not sure how Miller is in Supercross but if he doesn't get a ride that just shows how jacked up this sport is. He's been top 15 almost every race. Now again he could be awful at supercross which is preventing him from getting a ride. Kind of like fast Freddy...kills it outdoors but struggles indoors.
Being good at only one discipline apparently worked out alright for Justin Hill, so there's hope for Henry...Unsure

I wouldn't be surprised to see mxsports look the other way with the yz250. In years past when people were showing up on them, they were supposed to be 09 models or something specific like that, as that was the last year they paid the homologation fee and submitted the parts/dimensions. I'd be very surprised if all the yz250's raced the past few years were 09 models.

Also, that first year steinke rode the 125's? When he switched to the ktm it wasn't homologated. In fact, when you sign up it gives you a drop down menu of approved bikes to sign up on, the sign up sheets always showed 250sx-f.

Either way, 2 stroke or 4 stroke, glad to see some people stepping up to help a privateer who has been putting in consistently good results.

It'll have to be KTM or Husky for 2 stroke.

I'm sure when he said yeah.. I'll ride the yammy 2 stroke, he didn't know it was not allowed. He'll be taking someone up on that 450YZF after all.

Ama rules,. Not mine. Lol. Rulebook is available for riders and team to read. Plenty other bike choices.

Well folks, the 2 stroke dream for Henry ended already. For reasons beyond my comprehension, Yamaha does not homologate the YZ 250 for AMA Pro Racing anymore. Seems odd to me for a company with such a rich history of winning on a YZ 2 stroke,Jones Hannah, Glover, Burgett, Bradshaw, McGrath, Reed, I guess all those titles on a 2 stroke shamed the company.
I offered Henry my 2017 KTM450 Factory Edition, he said he wanted to be loyal to Yamaha and asked for the YZ Smoker. It looks like they got an engine for his 450. He said he is ready to start training for SX . Oh and BTW, He is better at SX than MX, his bike always broke!!!

I was, check page one of this post.
They did reach out to me and I have a bike for them (Cody Williams actually has it right now) but after that, didn't hear anything.
Hope he finishes out the season strong no matter whose bike he rides, he's had a hell of a season.

That whole Noren thing is ridiculous too! The dude is a top ten rider and Honda can't help him out at all. I forget, but I think he borrowed a practice motor from another privateer or something.

JKop... that's solid. Way to hook a deserving kid up. Restoring some faith in the moto community when a lot of what we hear is negative bullshit.

It would be surprising if Yamaha homologated the 250 2t, for several reasons. First, how many potential riders would really be interested in riding their 250 2t at the highest level? Probably single digits (like currently seen at the races now with 2t's that are homologated). That would be quite an investment risk to take to have to commit to 400 units. Across all brands there are about 2000 (ML512) new two strokes sold in the US. Divide that by brands and sizes, and Yamaha probably manufactures and sells right at the 400 limit needed, and probably declining at that. So, the gamble would nearly be all risk with no reward.

At the end of the day, Yamaha exists to make money.

I'm not one of those crazy two stroke guys but damn it would have been really interesting to see him ride the yz250.

It would be so cool to have one of the really fast guys come out on a 250 2t , im just curious where the bike would stack up with a top guy riding it. Fuck it , have Herlings ride the 250sx, he doesn't need to worry about the points in Indiana..

Hrc did try to help noren, but they only had electric start engines and Noren needed one without it, or something like that, but they did try to help.

Davey has mentioned on here before that they will review exceptions on a case by case basis. He allowed a newer yz250's to race in the nationals just last year if memory serves me correct because "nothing significant has changed since the homologated year". They have also allowed bikes older than 5 years to race and said that they would make exceptions depending on the situation. I think it would have been wise to at least shoot him an email asking if they would let this kid ride the '16 yz250 before just giving up on the idea. Just my opinion because it would have made the race a little more interesting for me personally to watch.

This really is a shame Henry cant race the YZ 250 Smoker. My bike is far from stock!! It has a ROCKET ported Cylinder that THE 2 stroke GENIUS Eyvind Boyesen ported for me for my 08 YZ ,with a Chad Reed works PC exhaust to the tune of 53.7 HP, Factory 50 mm KYB forks that Eyvind got me from Rinaldi racing, a works KYB shock, Dubya wheels, its a very capable bike. Henry and I spoke last night, he rode it back to back against his practice bike. He was less than 2/10 off his best time , on a 2 stroke he only rode briefly 2 months ago. He also said he hasn't had that much fun on a dirtbike in a long time. He's taking it with him to Ironman, and is going to try to get it through tech. Time will tell, lets keep our fingers crossed, he really wanted to race it for the fans!!!! BRAAAPP!!!

So Henry is still going to try to race a yz250? IMO he should just race a KTM, I know it's not a yamaha but he won't have any problems getting in.

Anyways I hope the AMA is cool and give us a fans a treat. Henry pulling a holey on a 2 stroke and battling with Herlings for a few laps would be awesome. This weekend has great potential Smile
