If you show up to an event and don't know how much it costs to get into the event and are then shocked at how much it costs to get into the event, then you probably don't deserve to get into the event.

Lostbro, I think Swannbro is saying they "are risking their lives" (I think we all agree on that). A by-product, if you will, of them risking their lives is we get entertained. I'm pretty sure that is all he was saying - even if he didn't say it perfectly.

As Marvin if he felt his life was at risk yesterday as he flew through the air towards some fence posts and a UTV.

I'm honestly surprised there aren't more catastrophic consequences in our sport. One minor mishap at the speeds these dudes go can get ugly quick. It's amazing what they walk away from. Roczen could have easily been killed in his crash.

Had some buddies travel up from south VA to check out the wick. They said never ever again. Like a un American prison camp. What kind of national doesn't allow you to hydrate yourself with your own choice of beverage?

I thought at one point yesterday the crowd was cardboard cut outs. Mad and sober I guess. You yanks love tolls, taxes and regulations though.

High Point allows coolers and outside drunks to be brought in at no charge.

This is the first year I've had to pay for parking at High Point, each year before this I was able to find a spot for free.

$50 for an entire day of moto is worth it and manageable for any family if you budget properly, even if the family income isn't huge.

Here is a list of forms of entertainment that allow you to "hydrate" yourself by bringing in your own:

- movies
-basketball games (middle school to NBA)
-football games (pee wee to NFL)
-baseball games (youth to MLB
-soccer (youth to whatever)
-water parks
etc., etc., ad nauseum, ad nauseum..., oh, wait.

It is so unprofessional of outdoor MX races not to allow outside beverages as they clearly are the only one.

I have heard rumblings of a particular form of entertainment that may let you bring your own beverages in. Can't you bring your own in to all nude entertainment facilities?

I don't drink anymore so not allowing "adult" beverages in is not a topic I can relate to these days, but I can see why some venues don't allow water bottles. It's quite easy to empty, re-fill, and re-cap certain plastic bottles without looking like they were opened previously.

That said, if you don't allow people to bring water in, don't gouge them on prices either. Charging a couple bucks + for a 10 cent bottle of water isn't cool at all.

Budds is great for spectating! You can see allot of or most of the track from diff spots. Dilla is good on the back hill but you after screw u can't see anything after that real good till after they come out of gravity cavity. High Point has gotten allot better for viewing after this years changes. Glen Helen has some really cool areas to view but got to do some mountain climbing. MX338 is tough. The natural layout then all the fencing make it tricky to find any real good spot. I've been to Muddy Creek back in the day but not for a national, that seems like it would be good. Back in the day though Broome Tioga was aweome for a spectator. You could see everything but the couple transitions on the top of the hill from anywhere you watched basically.

It's not so much the $$$$ which is an issue but it's more the drive, parking, policies and people there that get me to spend my time and money elsewhere. Some say I'm missing the "electric atmosphere". I call it missing a lot of drunk idiots trying to be something and venues with crappy viewing and promoters trying to shake you down for every cent you have. I'd rather watch it at home with my pause button, food, refrigerator and a potty I trust.

That said; if the MXoN comes to Red Bud, I'll do what I can to get tickets and go.
It's the same way for me now with high point. It's just lost its luster. I can't stand having to deal with the drunk hillbillys that are there just to get loaded and the traffic to get in and out of that place. With the new changes to the track and viewing areas it seemed to pack spectators closer together.

If you are taking a wife and Kids I would spend the money and go to a SX over a national any day. A national, I will go alone and meet up with other racing buddies. Taking a wife and kids to a national is a recipe for a pissed off wife and kids who want to go home after a few hours. Then you throw in dust or rain or heat and then add stinking port O shitters and long lines at the food tents and not much fun unless you are a die hard. I can spend way less than $500 and take the whole family to a SX and we all have a good time. Cool

The price of tickets is fair. Parking fee is fair. Not being able to bring drinks is stupid. I brought drinks and snacks to Glen Helen. I still purchased a couple beers and a hotdog.

My dad and I both went and they let us bring in our cooler full of water. And the $10 for parking is a good deal imo. All the money goes to the school and you get to park on their field. I think they charged $30 for parking at MetLife and all the that money goes to the owner.

Honestly fellas, ticket prices at our premier MX events are more than reasonable. However, if they aren't going to let spectators bring water into an outdoor, all day, summertime event...I better trip over a water vendor every ten feet. I've walked half way across the track and waited in line for 30 minutes only to be told, "We're out". That cheap gate fee means squat when you miss the races trying to keep the kiddos alive.

It's odd, perhaps each event is different or perhaps US events have always been cheaper. Not sure. I went to Red Bud, paid 10 bucks to park, parked right by the track with about a 6 minute walk, paid 45 to get in, spent the day enjoying great racing, got lunch for 8 bucks and two beers for 6.

Total cost $69 for entertainment, food and beer. I'm British so maybe I'm just used to getting ripped off but I feel like I'd have spent that on food at a GP!

I now use MX as a cautionary tale to anyone saying that their fringe sport needs to be "more mainstream."

I think they were just not allowing you to bring in your own alcohol. I walked in with a cooler of 6 waters and 2 gatorades and they opened the cooler, checked it and said you're good. They also checked my back pack which had my camera gear in it as well. I actually though the food was very reasonably priced. I had a hot dog and a cheeseburger for $8.50. Hot dogs at Met Life were like $9 or more! Shit, 3 small chicken fingers and about 10 french fries were $9-10 at High Point this year.

As far as viewing goes, Southwick definitely lacks there compared to the other nationals I was at. The tall fencing didn't help matters either. I was lucky enough to grab a spot along the fence by the Lucas Oil table top for practice and the first motos before walking back towards the pits where the riders enter the track. It was difficult to get a good spot to take pictures because everyone was 3-5 deep along the fence. Actually, High Point was very similar this year with the changes. HP is much better for spectating as you can see a lot of the track from the different hillsides, but getting close to the action was hard unless you got there early and claimed your spot, which A LOT of people did at HP and Southwick.

Unadilla & Budds are next for me this year and they are great spectating tracks with plenty of area along the fence to get close to the action and for me, better places to shoot.

Wow some of these replies are a little out there! Maybe if you cannot afford to go attend a National or SX you might need to work a little harder and earn a few more bucks. Not one bit of education past HS other than sweat and bruises and money was never a issue for me to attend a MX/SX. It's called hard work....give it a try and you will reap the rewards. You guys complaining are participating/spectating a Motorsport which for as long as I have been around is a little more expensive than buying a basketball, soccer or football

I thought about going to washougal, until I Thought about the cost and the shitty spectating. Atleast at hangtown you can see 90% of the track.

At Red Bud I bought a $5 seat on the hillside bleachers. Best $5 I've ever spent. It cost them plenty of $ to maintain Redbed as nicely as they do AND...the bleachers cost money for them to put up, also.


It's ironic that I see some of the same people that post complaints about EVERYTHING being expensive and/or "not any good any more".

I've gone to both Canadian and U.S. Nationals and have stood and watched racing from 1st practice thru the last wave of the checkered flag.

It's all excellent and the racing this year has been amazing.
