Two stroke silencer options?

Just looking for some opinions on this. I got the Scalvini pipe for my 125 and was thinking of picking up an FMF powercore....but I'm not so sure on this.

I was against using a shorty , as I can't stand the way some of them sound. I've held off on this because I can't make up my mind. I don't care for " pretty "....I'm looking for performance and durability.

What about a PC 304 or a Bill's? Any suggestions or comparisons you guys could fill me in on? Thanks guys.

First off I have no idea why I am up at 3:30am but while I am I will answer this the best I can. I have owned a shorty, power core II, r-304 and a bills silencer. Looks and sound wise I always though the r-304 just sounded mean, with the bills silencer coming in second. I did have the r-304 paired with a gnarly pipe on my yz250 though and the bills was matched with a bills pipe. The shorty sucked in my opinion on my 125, sounded awful and didn't perform to well either. The power core II is just a really good overall silencer, performs good and looks good but I would choose the r-304 over it any day. It also helps that its usually cheaper too

As far as durability goes I had no issues with all of the above, aside from stickers wearing offWoohoo

Thanks for that man. It seems like the 304 is very popular. As far as the Powercore 2 ( non-shorty ) I can only find the Ti version. And if the shorty's help with bottom end grunt , then I guess I'll try one out.

Btw...I'm wide awake now too and I have to get up early to go ride all day in 90 degree weather. Gonna be brutal.

What about a Scalvini silencer? I know you don't care for the aesthetics but no one can refuse a Scalvini pipe & silencer combo Wink

Bud racing carbon. I have been running it on my Kawi 250 for 3 years with no issues....looks and sounds great, reasonable price too.

R-304 just sound down right obnoxious on 125's IMO. May be the people around here never repack their silencers or pack them too tight. I ran an FMF fatty/shorty combo on my YZ125 worked great since I ride tighter tracks. Not sure how well she would fair on a "real" caliber motocross track with longer straights faster corners.

Been running the bills silencer with a factory fatty head pipe on my 250sx and have nothing but good to say about the bills silencer.

Length changes where the power comes on, and, more importantly, signs off. A longer silencer better for higher speeds, and higher rpm/longer powerband. The short ones better for lower end power, but sign off earlier too. So, Glen Helen, doing 70 mph, need a longer one. Small indoor arenacross, that would be better for a short one. Its should match too. An fmf gnarly with a top end muffler a bit weird. But, whatever works.

I have the Powercore 2.1 on my YZ250. I prefer it to the shorty silencer I had on there before.

Yep.
Since silencers are nothing more than a perforated tube, one brand isn't going to perform any better than another. Size of perforations, ID of the tube, and tube length make the difference. Since the ID and perforation sizes are generally pretty similar, try picking up a couple stock ones from eBay and cut them to different lengths.

Gawd damn it I'm running late this morning. Most every where I ride are big outdoor tracks. A lot of 4th and 5th gear stuff. Don't need this thing signing off on top.

@Jeff Crutcher.....I did a bunch of reading on this and the Scalvini silencer actually robbed a bit of power compared to some stock units. Believe me I think they look badass....but I'm not looking for that. I may just stick with the non shorty for these bigger tracks.

Gotta hit the road# running late!

If your talking 4th and 5th gear riding... Go PowerCore. I was riding Glen Helen with the shorty and deffinitly felt the bike sign off on the long straight away.

Like most reviews there is always the other experience. I have had nothing but problems with my bills silencers. I'm on #3 in 2 years. The core itself keeps breaking. Their ridiculous price is why I went with the Buds lol. They are actually a pretty nice piece...

Jeff, don't know if this will be of any help, I run the PC Works pipe with the PC 304 Factory Sound on my 06 CR250 (Eric Gorr mods,Keihin carb)... what a difference !!, that combo pulls stronger and longer in every gear, night and day difference over the stock pipe and OEM cut down to a shorty, no torque loss whatsoever. Side note, the 06 CR250 in stock trim....Ahh hell, I won't even go there. Good luck, and good to have ya back.

It's funny how many people cluelessly buy "shorty" silencers because the look cool.
On my RM250 and YZ250 I bought the standard length Powercore silencers because both bikes had PLENTY of bottom end but needed a little help with over rev.
My 02 CR250 I mad sure to get a "Shorty" that bike revved to the moon Alice but was anemic off the bottom.
Illnbet if you could see sales figures from these exhaust pipe manufacturers theyd show the shorty silencers probably sell 2 to 1 over the standard length silencers.

Totally opposite my experience. I have the Bill's MX2 silencer for both my YZ125 and YZ250 and both in the aluminum and carbon versions. All of them use the same rubber isolator as the stock and other silencers. Have not had a single problem with any of them.

I've tried basically every silencer on these bikes. Didn't like PC. Has a "ratty" sound. Don't really care for shorties due to the power signing off. The standard FMF Powercore-II and the Bill's both are about the same length in the middle of the road and I prefer them.

I dont like how "big" the new fmf 2 stroke silencers look, they look like a 4 stroke exhaust. Idk what fmf was thinking when making those. Id go PC for a kawi or yamaha. Have you tried seeing if a bills pipe silencer will fit? Bills have some pretty killer 2 stroke pipes and silencers. I think the ones that are hand made with the welds around the whole pipe cost $100 mpre then normal.

Absolutely hate my bud pipe and silencer. Shit has never fit from the git go and they have been terrible to deal with customer service wise! My pipe has always leaked oil at the cylinder no matter how many new seals I put on the pipe. The silencer always blows off the pipe under high pressure. Went back to stock pipe and silencer NO PROBLEMS. Getting an fmf now
