Emig tests US Electric bike..but it NOW!

They should make Stewart race that thing the rest of the series, it would make SX more exciting and at least everyone else would have a chance.

"Fifth lap: case the bitch, big time. All the races will be way slower on the last lap than the first. That's a major downer, IMO."

Most vet riders suffer the same problem.

it's to bad it looks like a glorified moped.

if it performed like a 250 at least it will be cool. but I am afraid it is a full size mx bike with a 50cc performance....... but like the four strokes they will get it perfected.
Really? When did they make a 4 stroke that will consistently crank after it's been crashed? Far from perfect.

Put baseball cards in the spokes with clothes pins and you're all set.

One question - those things supposedly put out a good bit of power, why do they use such a small rear tire? There has to be a reason - maybe the spread of power is so broad that it gets traction by nature?

I keep thinking there's going to be a leap forward in battery technology - a whole new thing of some kind.

Not for me, at least that version. Clearly it doesn't have that much power. No doubt it gets to speed quick (it should, its an electric), but I bet its pretty slow overall. Also looks like and seems to handle like a mountain bike.

I live in the sticks where no one cares about noise, and I have my own track, so I'd probably be one of the last guys to switch to something like that.

oh... and my dad has a mini electric motorcycle from the late 70s. its orange and about the size of a honda trail 70. it hauls his 250lb ass around pretty good.

RupertX's question about plugging in at the track brings to mind a picture of the pits full of gas generators racing furiously to charge up the electrocrosser's sparky steeds.

Has anybody posted the vid of Emig and Lewis going at it on Zeros? This might give you a taste of what electric moto would be like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txT0yJOEaeo

the bottom line is you still get the jumping, stuffing, and racing...but it would suck to have the sound of moto go away.
(wait...that already happened)

Ditto on toddO's post..

If an egineer working out of his garage can make a dual motored crf250 kit, the big 4 can knock it out of the park..

loudly protest. Seriously, I've like traveled and stuff.

Also, who's gonna drag a 125 foot bright orange extension cord thru the whoops

and not be laughed at ?

Also, where you going to plug your bike in at a motocross track?

Also, can you get one in Kawasaki green with a two stroke engine as an option?

use your generator to recharge it...

oops...there goes the green part.

Plus when you plug it in the wall, you are 50% likely to be burning coal to charge it.

Micky Dimond did a testdrive on one electric bike and wanted it.
In the 1940s there was a motorcycle faktory named REX trying developing
an electric bike, but they closed it down.

This could help with the battery rundown issue: http://i.gizmodo.com/5151447/mit-shock-absorbers-harness-speed-bump-energy-for-better-fuel-economy. I bet an electric bike could get through a sub-20 minute SX main as battery technology advances. For Nationals, there could just be pit stops for a battery and goggle swap and a drink. There would be a whole hop-up industry for lighter motor cases, trick brushes, red powerbands and spoke oil. And we'd be able to ride because we wouldn't be making any noise.

And oh yeah, Pro Circuit already has the best name for an electric MX hop up shop. How serendipitous is that?

I exchanged e-mails with the fellow building that Honda and with Jody Weisel regarding MXA doing a test. Jody said that they were working on an electric bike roundup and wanted to test the bike we're talking about. I honestly haven't checked to see if that has happened, but I'd love to see it.

That bike looks pretty cool. I'm not that keen in how the battery and engine look. Maybe I will get used to that. Why the hell do they have scopes? Airflow over battery?

The cost of the battery is 5,400 euros! Once the battery will be half price and half the weight I will definitely get one!

Lion batts put out virtually the same power towards the end of the batt cycle as they do in the beginning. Anybody into radio-controlled cars? The electric ones are damn close to the same speed as the hopped up 20,000rpm nitro burners. Still seems funny watching a electric race compared to the nitro cars because of the sound factor, but those lion powered RC cars haul ass. With batt technology rapidly advancing it won't be long till they are the equal of gas/nitro.
