Dungey will more than likely take the title. after he got dominated by tomac and roczen this year and last summer, and will this summer, im sure he will want to at least go out on top. His interviews show someone ready to call it quits. Hes got rvs language from 2014
That's a comical post. I wish I could get dominated the way Dungey got dominated.

He's alluded to "finishing out his obligations" with ktm numerous times.

Just curious. I understand all the good reasons. Just these guy's travel schedules would kill most normal humans. I was mostly wondering if he'd said anything about it. Or like TDeath21 said, "Mostly speculation"
It can be the travels but i think it is mainly about the risks, pressure and training. The travel schedule is actually similar, and even inferior, to many people in corporations.

It is true however that adding the travels on top of it contribute to wearing any body more quickly. I don't know how they travel, but if it is not already the case, it may make sense to fly private with Dungey, Musquin, Anderson, Osborne and their wife. Such a clause in the contract may help.

^This.

I think that broken neck last summer has really changed him (IMHO). His lack of intensity this year. His laid back attitude. It probably scared him some and sitting on the couch for that long, he probably started doing some thinking.

Big fan of his and he deserves whatever he wants.
I agree. I know a lot of people will say that these guys are professionals and that their injuries and the injuries of others do not effect them. However, Not being a racer and not having that insight, I can give the insight of taking care of trauma patients my entire adult life and "close" injuries like Dunge's neck probably hit home, especially with JN13s crash at Unadilla. I surely can't speak for Dungy but he seems different in his podium and presser speeches I think he's at peace and hoping to come through in one peice.

My guess is he will announce his retirement when he is handed the SX championship in Vegas.

KTM has offered RD a one-year extension to his contract (no chance he'd agree to a multi-year K), but he's said multiple times that he won't make a decision until the end of the outdoor season. Personally, I don't think KTM could put down enough zeros to get RD back for another rodeo.
A few weeks ago Ryan said, in an interview, that he would make a decision concerning his retirement before Vegas. I'm going against the grain and guessing that he may decide to race for one more season, considering the contract will provide a substantial raise. He may not put as much pressure on himself during a final year, but would still earn what it may take 20 years to earn after he retires. It has to be difficult to walk away from the kind of salary that KTM will be offering him. He could probably pay for three kids to go to college for four years each with his 2018 earnings alone. The amount he is likely to earn for another year would provide a tremendous addition to his nest egg and his ability to help the charitable causes that mean so much to him. Once he walks away from racing he will never be close to the same earning potential. It's not impossible for him to start a family in his last season, and a compromise that includes a one year overlap wouldn't seem too cumbersome. Even if the decision was made now to start a family, it is unlikely that any children would be arriving until the very end of his racing days.

Anybody know if they fly commercial? (Delta/American/Southwest)

Or Corporate Jet to/from the races?

Personally I think he is a little burned out...whether that means retirement or SX only in 2018 who knows...I am wondering also if he will pull out of the MX series this year...

Assuming they are all at baker anyway, renting a private jet to go out on thurs, back on Sat night, would not be that much more then they are paying now.....assuming you are picking up the four of them and their wives and returning them to the same place.

I don't know of any pros currently flying private regularly.

Back in the early to mid 2000's, RC/Reed/Stewart/Windham all flew private in their own jet with their own entourage.

I've heard Ryan mention a couple times now that he has been "testing for the outdoors". I've also heard him respond when asked about his future "I'll make that decision after the SX season is over". Reading between the lines, tells me he will announce after the SX season is over, he will ride the outdoors this season and then call it quits. I don't blame him. Go enjoy your life and family young man. You've earned every bit of it.

I have a very close friend who is in Dungey's circle. He told me 6 months ago that 2017 would be his last year.

He could get by another year without Aldon, if he chose to race in 2018. The training program probably results in more time away from home than the racing.

Am I the only one that actually watched the "between race" clip during the SLC SX? There was one segment of Chad Reed saying how he thinks it is awesome raising kids on the road at the races and having his kids learn how hard their dad worked. Considering the "fight" the two had the previous weekend, I found it comical that they immediately after shared Dungey's polar opposite view and Ryan saying "I really want a family, but the road is no place to raise a family" (in similar words).

He doesn't have a contract, if he is taking the money and running with a body that won't be a wreck at age 40, starting a family with enough money to retire at his age, I would say he played his life card to this point absolutely perfect. I would miss watching him race, but what an awesome way to go out.. Totally on top, wealthy, and life is just beginning.

Seems like a grueling schedule, hardly any off time, I'd be over it too.

I've often thought this also. Roger has been on the road his entire adult life. I love to travel, but also enjoy a day week or two at home once in while. My hat is off to Roger who seems to thrive on the travel and pace.
