People saying it was wrong must have never owned or operated a business. Marvin rides for KTM, if he can't win the championship it is his job to help his teammate. If he can't win at least his EMPLOYER does. I would understand all the bitching if MM took ET3 out but ET3 did that himself, MM just added a small cushion....
They are independent contractors, as such they are not employed by KTM and RD is by law not allowed to tell MM how to ride the bike. Doing so could jeopardize the independent contractor status thus opening the door for the IRS to come in and pay a visit.

These will all be moot points when Dungey wins the title by more than 3 points. Then again if he wins by 1, 2, or 3 Vital is going to blow up. And finally if he wins by 1, 2, or 3 points and MM lets him by on the last lap to gain a couple points.... And that press conference will be even more uncomfortable that this one. Sick

What they did doesn't bother me so much. That will happen. I just hate that they're denying it.

^^^^ Man I couldn't agree more, I think this has happened way more than we think it has. Any person or team that's pissed about it would do the same damn thing if they were in these guy's shoes. The championship is bigger than one man's race for the manufacturer, BUT....give Marvin his money for sure!!

So are you saying the manager of an MLB team can't tell a pitcher what pitch he wants thrown, by law? You are an idiot. Those players are contracted.

We all knew this was a possibility and could/should happen..., just cracks me up the "spin" that the KTM crew is putting on it.

Funny, I was going to put up a post that anyone who brings up the "asterisk" issue after the title is wrapped up could be game for a suspension.

That's the weakest, most tired thing I see here every year.

EddieC beats the 1099/independent contractor drum pretty heavy, as it's directly impacted some prospects he's looked at. However, if there's one thing he's not, it's an idiot.
Also, your MLB comparison only agrees with his point. Those players are employees, not independent contractors. Not the case in the MX/SX world. I bet he'd be more than happy to discuss some of the implications of that distinction with you if you could refrain from calling him an idiot.

Well, at least you won't have to monitor any threads on Dungey being the fastest or most dominant rider this year. (wink)

I apologize if I misunderstand the difference. In all honesty, please educate me. Is this due to the anti trust protection that MLB is afforded? Player contracts are negotiated on an individual basis, for a limited time, with any number of clauses. It would appear to be the same at face value. MLB players can be denied compensation for certain actions if it violates their contract.

Supercross has always had less credibility than NASCAR. I mean, it's motocross jammed into stadiums on Mickey Mouse circuits; bottom of the barrel. And you're talking about "credibility"? It ain't MXGP.

I noticed that. Looks like he maybe a little exhausted and had a dizzy moment.

What is the penalty to not go to the press conferences if say you didn't feel up for it?

I truly hope you are just playing because as an independent contractor - you actually have signed a contract to work for said company. And lets say MM said screw it, I am winning this race - do you think that would have helped him with his team in the outdoors and beyond?

SX is not banking on "credibility" to succeed.

Most new viewers have no idea of the difficulty and skill involved. It's run by the circus, fireworks and explosions, commercials with nothing but crashes and sexy girls walking around with monster cans and 30 second boards (thank god!)

Marvin missing his line intentionally did nothing to harm the sport. The only thing it did was make the possibility of his boss winning a title just a shade better.

downward254 wrote, Anyone here old enough to remember back in '84 when Honda put everyone that had in the 250 class to help Lechien try and win the '84 250 MX title. Or how about the Russians going after Falta (I think that's his name, right?)

The Lechien thing with Honda happened in 1985 when the 250cc MX title was going down to the wire, but Dogger already had the 125 championship in hand and Broc Glover had taken the 500cc Class, so Honda sent Lechien and 500cc rider David Bailey in to help Johnny O'Mara try to beat Jeff Ward for the 250cc title. Wardy was 20 points ahead and it was a long shot at best. No one broke any rules, no one did any blocking, and in the end Wardy still won the title -- and this was eight days after he won the AMA Supercross Championship at the Rose Bowl over Glover, the controversial "backwards race" where Yamaha wanted Ward DQ'd because he crashed and got going backwards on the track on the face of a jump before turning around (and how ironic that something sorta similar just happened with Savatgy?) and they thought Broc Glover deserved the title.

And with the superstars missing in the 125 and 500 Class (Glover was already champ and injured, and probably didn't want to help Kawasaki or Honda, so he stayed home) the two unlikeliest winners in nationals' history emerged: Suzuki's AJ Whiting (125) and Yamaha support rider (and local hero) Eric Eaton in the 500 class.

Oh, and yes, it was Jaroslav Falta that the Russians went after at the 1974 Swiss 250cc Grand Prix finale, the worst episode of team riding in history (even worse than "Let Brock Bye")

Sorry, high bench-racing geek factor here...

Good god people, there are millions of dollars at stake, they race for titles, and you do whatever you need to do in order to win - just like every other form of motorsport. Get over yourselves.
I've always wondered about the demographics of this site's users and the demographic that motocross reaches in the U.S. in general, especially in terms of educational level. This "uproar" has been positively idiotic.

Factory teams. Corporate sponsors. Championship in the balance. CONNECT THE DOTS ALREADY.

I mean, what did these people THINK was gonna happen? My only curiosity was how exactly Musquin would hand the lead back, not whether he was going to.

Or maybe these posters are all teenagers who just don't know shit. Beats me.
