Does anyone miss carbuerators?

2 strokes- carb every time.
4 stroke- efi every time.
I can jet a carb perfectly, but oh man.do I love how nice my rmz450 runs. Every brand should come with a software cd and a connector to program the cdi, though.

I don't mind carburetors at all, even on 4 stroke bikes. They work well and I have a decent understanding of how to get them set up properly.

I see the opposite, the aftermarket EFI systems are stupid popular right now.

Just as long as it's not a Holley. Just give me an AFB. Sure it might be a tad less power but they are so easy and reliable.

carbureted 250fs were really hard to get running right, 450s almost didnt benefit from EFI. Electronic issues are lame anyway that you look at it. It also sucks how you cant tune an efi bike without thousand dollar couplers and software.

I really like the carbs on my two strokes! They work good when theu are tuned correctly.

It's a Holley. Love it. Trick is knowing how to tune them properly.

I guess so. I had my Holley blueprinted ($300) by the guy that tuned the carbs on John Waynes boats. I am beginning to think it was just the motor I was dealing with.

any takers? I cant make my mind up on this one. Ive owned 2 EFI bikes kx450 and kx250f, and the main things I liked about them being EFI was easier starting after dumping it. Other than that I dont think a carb has held me back much. I can see EFI being a must in pro SX racing where a carb would be taking a beating and the internal parts/fuel getting sloshed around like crazy in whoops and rythm sections.

MXA makes it sound like EFI is the worst thing to ever happen to motocross. Some guys think carbs are from the stone age, I fall in between I guess.
I nailed Miss Monoshock a long time ago.. but never Miss Carburetor.

Miss Monoshock was on the rebound and Miss Carburetor couldn't suck and had a lot of blowback.

Miss spark plug though, she kept things firing on all cylinders.

I'm vacillating on this subject this right now. Looking to possibly update my trusty '04 CRF450 with a 2010-2012 EFI 450 of whatever brand. I do lots of trail riding and it's not uncommon to see a 3000ft elevation change and 30 degree temp change on a ride and the ol' gal gets pretty angry.

Just waiting for the next thread complaining about how inconvenient it used to be to have to mix gas.

When I first bought my rancher 420 in 2012, i knew i loved efi on 4 strokes. As far as jetting a 2 stroke, I loved doing it. It was always fun to get it right on the money and see it run great.

I wouldn't turn my nose up at EFI though. The negatives don't outweigh the positives in my opinion.

I will say, my 14 KX250f absolutely DEMOLISHED my 13 yz250f power wise, it was almost sad. The yamaha handles so much better tho but thats another thread, If I could get KX power out of the 10-13 yz250f that would be moto nirvana for me. the kx overpowering the yz may be not be as simple as EFI vs carb, the yami was still a 5 valve and all that jazz at that point.
The thing with the YZ is that it's an old ass motor, it was used for years and years before they came out with something new. I own a 13 YZ 250F and have ridden 3 different KX 250F's. I will say the 13 KX had gobs of power compared to my YZ, but it handled wayyy worse. I also tried an 08 and 12 KX which handled worse but had a touch more power. I don't think EFI has anything to do with the power itself, it's just more responsive. The stock YZ is just so goddamn choked up that it gets no power and using a dated engine doesn't help it at all

LOVE carbs. especially when youre framing a bike and there's what seems like a car wiring harness coming through an EFi bike and there are bout 2.5 wires on a carbed bike, makes life easy.

I am very comfortable with jetting changes for elevations and mods, can make a carb bike bark like a beast without issue too. EFI made bikes heavier and more expensive to tune.
