It looks like the writing is already on the wall about who's in the drivers seat right now, but for the life of me I can't figure out why so many people are so excited to see Dungey struggle. The dude has never done anything to deserve the hate he gets on here. He's kicked serious ass since his rookie year, especially the last two years.

He's obviously down from the standard he's set for the last two years and we have people on here celebrating his decline in performance like the Jews chanting for Christ's crucifixion.
In my opinion the hate is on dungey because of the way he wins his championships. The fans are use to seeing MC, RC, Rv, Reed Stewart etc. Win by pure dominance and speed. We see alot of dungeys title wins by consistent podiums with not many wins or injury to other title favorites. Injurys are part of the sport and racing so its not fair to put that asterisk on his titles but people look at it that way anyways. Everyone is also quick to point out his 4 year title drought when Rv was racing. it shows he isnt on the same level when his biggest competition is at the track. Im not a dungey fan but he has proved he is a champion with his consistency and his ability to stay healthy when others cant.

I never thought Tomac was out of it, but with Dungey's history and the below it was a tall order at the time. We're in for a good 5 rounds. And just like most of this year (so far), I've come to expect the unexpected.

Tomac has been due for a title in the eyes of many including myself. Dungey has had his share of success. Us Eli fans have just been waiting and hoping it clicks for him. I don't personally celebrate Dungey's fall but I do celebrate Eli's rise for sure.

Sadly, it's now Ryan DONEgy! He isn't going to recover mentally from the beat downs over the last 4 weeks. He's back to riding like he did when Villapoto was racing.
Agreed. He was just the consistent top 3 guy against RV. Lookin like that now
Yea "just a top3 guy" indoors and outdoors for over a decade, no big deal , just top3 speed, anyone can do that...

seattle SX is really is a big question this year>?ANYTHING could happen. weve been blessed with great weather the last 5-6 years but this year we have had snow many times and its been really wet and its two weeks earlier than normal. I hope its not but the possibility of a mudder is really good. NOBODY is out of the woods yet.

Tomac just has a very physical style. He bashes, OJs, stays pinned and just rides with a level of aggressiveness that translates to an extra .50s a lap. Other guys can do what he does...for lap or two, then they blow up and have to back off. Technically...he is not quite a polished as Dungey. He does some things that are technically not as "correct"...but he does not have to. He is just more of an athlete...it is as simple as that.

Exactly. Tomac is the underdog, coming from a big points deficit, and rising to the top. He's shown flashes of what he's capable of in the past and has been grossly underestimated by most. It's great to see him kicking ass and doing what some of us have believed in all along. Dungey is great and it's hard to cheer against him, but it's Tomac Time. He's laying down an ass whooping of epic proportions and it's awesome to watch. Herlings better get the fuck out of the way if/when they meet up on the track.

If Tomac wins the championship, he's gonna come out swingin' at Hangtown
3/26/2017 1:35pm
Has there been another rider who has come back from a points deficit like Tomac has? I'm sure there's been situation's where the points leader crashed out or something, but I can't remember a season where a guy just continuously beats the points leader to make up the ground. It's impressive with how good Dungey has been in his career.

I am rooting for Dungey. He is just such a class act, and good role model for the sport. With that being said, it would be a crime for Tomac to lose this Championship. Starting the season the way he did, then the brake problem, to overcome all that, and be so dominant, it would be sad to see him lose. Anything can happen, and I'm glad we are this late in the season with this close of a gap. Still rooting for Dungey, but I think Tomac deserves this one.

Dungey doesn't have many wins? Laughing No one puts an ** on any of his titles, except some of you Vitards. Tell me again when Tomac has missed SX due to injury since moving to 450's? How many 450 titles does he have?....as of right now, Zero. You're not a Dungey fan, so of course you're going to downplay his accomplishments. Oh and if we're playing by your rules, how the hell is Reed on the listBlink

I was wondering the same thing. If anyone has come back the way Eli has. I think it is extremely impressive for Eli to consistently beat the Champ. Dungey is great, we all know that (even the ones who don't want to admit it and just want to hate on Dunge) So the fact that Eli is consistently beating Ryan is extremely impressive. I am a huge Eli fan, so watching him win and cut the points lead is very exciting for me. I want to see him keep beating Ryan. Not rooting against Ryan, just rooting for Eli.

You need to look at the total wins for each title he's won.

I think you'll be surprised at the level of dominance.

RV said in an interview once that how he beat Dungey was simple. Win more races than him. Even RV couldn't match Dungey's consistency.

Tomac is just on another level than Dungey right now. Simple as that IMO.

Thats one way to look at it......... or......... RV was confident enough to know he could beat him and win titles because he was faster.

Tomac and roczen have always had more speed and natural ability than Dungey, whose MO was keeping it upright for a whole series. While the others were faster, they always put it on the ground and got hurt. Tomac has the speed and confidence going for him right now, and if he can keep it on 2 wheels, it is his title to lose.

That's just not true. Not in sx for sure. 2015-16 dungey was plain faster than both guys more often than not. I don't even see any room to debate that.

I also think tomac had to work very, very hard to get where he's at in sx. It didn't come easy to him at all. He's struggled at times, including on the 250.

We will have to agree to disagree, given that tomac hasn't shown this sx speed before, ever. I'm a fan of his, but before this year he only had a handful of wins in several seasons. He also had plenty of races where he was very average.

For comparison sake RD won 6 races and the title in his first 450 season.
