I just stood in my local KTM dealer for over 15m waiting to buy a 250SX and was completely snubbed. Ask me anything.

Whew... glad I followed the thread a bit further. Almost pooped some popcorn when I saw that dollar figure.

$7,300 OTD Northern CA.

I had the same issue at the motorcycle shop in Rhode Island a few years back. I needed some parts, and was also contemplating buying a quad (to push the sprint car). The staff did their best to act like they didn't work there, and I left and bought the parts I needed off the internet. I could not believe that they managed to ignore the only person in the shop and avoid eye contact for 10 or 15 minutes. When it comes to sales people, I expect them to say hi, ask if I need help finding anything, and if I say "No", give me their name and tell me grab them if I have any questions or need any help. I shouldn't have to hunt them down and kill them, they are not a hot chick in a bar, they are there to help me, not the other way around.

The bike was on the floor. I have cash. This is the second dealer that completely ignored me. The arrogance of KTM dealers in Australia is beyond belief. The ridiculous pricing compared to Japanese bikes is one thing, but the utter contempt for the customer is unacceptable. I would be glad to pay the money if one of the high and mighty "sales people" could be bothered to "serve" me.

Were you wearing pants? I've found that even those businesses that don't explicitly post it on their entrance really have a hard time taking serious folks who come in without pants......

Problem is, they can see that you aren't really carrying the "cash", unless it's in your prison wallet. And if it is, they'd rather take another form of payment......

Okay, seriously, no offense...but you didn't walk up to one of them and initiate a conversation? I completely understand you expecting one of them to come over to you but if you really wanted to buy the bike, cash in hand...

Once again, I totally understand the thought that the staff is being lazy or not into it by your view, I see what you're saying...but on another hand you didn't explore all the options of the situation and now we have an forum rant about it.
Give it up Micheal..

It's crap service and the buck stops at the Ktm brand. Dealers represent the brand, sales people represent the brand, service mechanics represent the brand.

Show some respect to your bread and butter. Whoever that is I'm wondering

Sounds like the dealers just hurt your fragile ego. If you really wanted the bike, you would have asked. But you felt like because you had cash in hand, that a red carpet should be rolled out and salesmen should spill out of a hole in the wall and start kissing you ass.

Maybe the salesmen were busy helping actual buyers who made contact with them? And you cash means nothing. They get cash in hand from financing too.

In just a short time in this thread, you seem to get very defensive with honest, harmless, and well meaning questions. Afterall, the last sentence in your title was, "Ask me anything."
That is a fair comment. Not defensive, pissed off. There is a difference.

Go to Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda - hell, even a small Husky dealer - and you will at least get a "How are ya mate? If you need anything give me a shout".

Never in my life have I had to go up to someone and say "Hey listen here, let me give you some money for this product". That goes for buying cars, dirt bikes, street bikes, or anything mechanical. And I have bought a LOT over the years.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

In your dreams, pal. I could have bought the dealership if I wanted it. Idiot.

So you just walked out without the bike? Never thought to go to the counter and tell them you want to buy the bike? Not trying to defend the dealership because if you stood by the bike for 15 minutes an employee should have got the hint and made the sale.

Impulse purchase as a reward to myself (I already have two bikes). After being snubbed twice, I decided I would rather not have it. I will probably buy a YZ250 or TC250.

Well this isnt KTM's fault (to be fair I dont think you are implying this) but I am sure they would like to know that a particular dealership (or 2?) doesnt have great customer service. I admit to not knowing KTM's policy towards dealerships and what is expected of them, so they may not do anything but then again they might.

I have had this before with a Suzuki dealer a few years back, I just asked (not shouting but loudly so other customers could hear) ..."well do you want my money or should I go to Yamaha around the corner" ...it worked. After the sale was made I did complain to the dealership management, got some free stuff as a result lol
Good point. Now that I have calmed down, I will do KTM a favour and take it up with their corporate representatives.

Just for the record....

I'm in Southern California and have been in most every KTM dealership within 100 miles from me. There are a few dealers who smother you with a salesman and his side kick, but most of them will let you look around for a bit. I'm not saying they ignore you, but they give you some time to look around, before they try and pressure you into buying a new bike. I can understand the frustration of your actual situation, I really can, I've had "those days" before. But in reality, all you would've had to do is walk the 2- meters to ask them for some help. But if they actually really seemed uninterested in selling you a bike, I don't blame you a bit for leaving. Sometimes the "principals" can get in the way of good judgement.... At least I can admit it. Lol

To be clear, I think EVERY KTM dealer that I have ever been into is doing a great job. I've always noticed the professionalism of their salesman and even how they dress and carry themselves. No complaints from me at all, KTM dealers and their products kick ass !! Cool

"Show some respect to your bread and butter"

I asked my questions in a fairly calm manner and am just making trying to gather what happened here. We end up with some negative threads around here without much explanation. The OP answered my questions, so that's why the thread still stands and didn't get sent to the dumbgeon (which happens as we all know completely one-sided bash festivals can happen around here).

As for who my bread and butter is...I don't really think about that very often. I technically do what I feel like for the most part in the best interest of being a better test rider, photographer, and journalist. Oddly enough, part of my job is to share my opinions...

Cant please them all, I hate when a dealer comes up to me and trys to sell me a bike. Reminds me of all the street scum in Thailand /Bali ect just trying to pester you into buying something you dont want. I Bought a new KTM a couple of months ago, I did my research, I walked into a dealer, found the sales manager and told him what I was willing to pay. After the usual your breaking my balls routine he agreed on the price and I left with a bike.

Not everyone wants to have their ass kissed mate.

Sounds like you walked in looking for a problem if I'm honest. You sound like the sort of guy who would also complain if he was approached as soon as he walked in the store. Imagine a completely different scenario where you walk in, walk to the counter and I initiate a conversation, crazy I know, but you might have been greeted by a great and knowledgable salesman who could have cut you a great deal. Perhaps the store don't do hard sales, and have had complaints in the past where customers complain about being approached
