I've told the doctors in the past I wrecked my mountain bike just to save myself from having to hear the motorcycles are dangerous lecture. Never a question from the insurance company.
I couldn't do that the one time I arrived by ambulance still in my riding gear but had no issues with insurance.

Thank You. If I could just say to keep this positive, I made a big mistake and hurt myself riding without health insurance and now im in this boat. I wouldn't put myself out like this if it wasn't my only avenue but right now I have some serious injuries that need to be taken care of. If anyone knows any way to help me with it please message me. I currently have bones in my shoulders and chest not connected and need to get fixed.
I saw this somewhere else but wasn't sure if it was real..

Jeff, now I know this is real, I will be sending a little out to ya this weekend and if I can, some more in a couple weeks. We are strapped right now with my son, Lane, ( @LaneMariotti77 on IG ) just getting out of surgery yesterday himself.

I hope you heal fast bud.

I see lots of bmx'rs wearing riding gear. I just say bike. No one has asked beyond that. Could be bicycle, exercise bike, motorcycle, razor scooter, etc. pretty much covers everything and at same time that's the truth. Got hurt on a bike. Never been scrutinized beyond that.

Something tells me this will backfire eventually.

You get a gnarly injury on a motocross bike – lie about it and happen to get caught – you're gunna be fucked. If there's one thing insurance companies love to do is payout large sums of money to people who lied to them about their injuries.

Best part is, once your get dropped by your insurance and have to head to the ER (most likely right before having to go to court for insurance fraud) us tax payers are going to have to cover your medical bills if you can't cough up for the insanely priced treatments. But please do go on and tell us more about how you're scamming the system on a public forum... insurance companies would never consider searching the internet to avoid a potentially $1,000,000 payout to a client they suspect is lying.

Has your family abandoned you?

I would have guessed your family would give you the $2,000 to not have this out there. Hell, you must have easily $2G worth of used tires with 75% tread lying around.

I'm calling BS on this.

I never tell my insurance because it's none of their business how I was hurt. I pay them to fix me and they do. I have had many surgeries from MX.
That just makes insurance companies want to sue tracks and blame others.
Secondly. My insurance has no idea what my occupation is, they might think they do, but they don't because once again, none of their business.
I pay my insurance premiums and they pay the bills.

My occupation is more deadly than racing SX or MX so I don't see insurance doing risk analysis based on occupation.
Our single location where I work has killed close to 5 people in 4 years and we are one of the biggest global companies.
When you get brought into ER wearing gear and KTFO (as has happened to me)...

Do what we do. Sell your stuff. Sell gear parts bikes whatever or claim preexisting condition and get obamacare

Vital burns through 3 pages of real estate calling insurance companies a bunch of crooks and talking about how we as riders lie about our injuries – yet you all laugh when I say that insurance companies probably wouldn't be too eager to pay out huge sums of money when they find out they were lied to...

Insurance: "Do you do any 'extreme' sports?"
Rider: "No"
Insurance: "Cool. You'll be good with this coverage for this low rate then."
** Rider gets hurt & needs $50k+ in medical expenses **
Rider: "I fell riding my bicycle... at the park down the street"
Insurance: "Funny, the ambulance says it picked you up from Pala MX track... and you were wearing motocross gear".
Rider: "Oh"
Insurance: "You said here you don't participate in 'extreme' sports."
Rider: "Yeah... I..."
Insurance: "Even funnier... you're not covered for that sport... so.... we're out. Heal up!"

Is it going to happen that way, maybe / maybe not, but in this day in age where you can find out a shit ton about people and what they're doing via Facebook & Instagram I think it's pretty ignorant to think you're going to always be able to pull the fast on an insurance company. Eventually that shit will catch up to you and it won't be over something small.

Do insurance companies look at it this deep? Hope others can chime in with their own examples of getting burned. Only times I have seen folks get scrutinized is with injuries that include disability pay or lawsuit payoffs or some kind of payout. Like you get hurt at work and need to take 6 months off but then are out skydiving. Or you are on disability pay and win a big lawsuit and walking with a Cain but then are out rock climbing.

I'm not sure insurance companies are scrutinizing a broken arm. Know what I mean. You know how many people take ambulance rides a day? Thousands I assume.

I agree with your scenario for sure. Just seems unlikely that level of scrutiny is given. You get hurt, you have insurance you go get fixed.

At any given time insurance companies will have hundreds if not thousands of lawsuits going on against them and these are likely 6 and 7 figure payouts at stake. This is where they spend resources scrutinizing things. Just doubt a lot of time is spent scrutinizing and ambulance ride.

This is why you don't need to offer up any more info then necessary. You got hurt. How? On a bike. That's pretty much the extent of information you need to volunteer or get asked.

Solid example of the pervasive welfare State mentality. Need money b/c of poor planning and avoiding responsibilities?.... put out your hand and jingle your cup!!

Jeff, have you exhausted all other resources yet? (eg. Loan from family / friends - to be paid back! Loan from bank? Credit card? Sold your possessions?)

Hi Jeff, heal up quick, yes, i have given a little.

So, why not autograph and sell laser's?

Anytime I have gone to doctor or emergency rooms the only question they asked was if I was injured at work (workers comp claim).

Outside of that I don't get asked a whole lot. Certainly nothing too detailed. Just don't put yourself in a tight box by giving unnecessary details. Not telling the whole truth is a lot different then telling a lie.

I honestly feel insurance companies scrutinize car insurance far more then health insurance claims. Not really sure why.
That's what Lawyers do everyday, say less than more.

I dont know if this has been asked (didnt want to read through 4 pages of crap) but if youre riding supercross or motocross or have a valid ama license, do you need to show proof of health insurance to FELD/FIM/AMA in order to race? Or do they just take your money and hope you dont get hurt? I would think that you would need proof of health insurance in order to race. I know Jeff raced some races this year, so did he have a month to month basic insurance plan or was he racing sx with no insurance? IMO if you are out there racing SX or MX, it should be mandatory that you show valid health insurance in order to compete.

Do these pros never save any money or buy insurance...just more cars and houses...pretty sad they always want the fans to pay for their fuckups.
Last time i got hurt didn't see any pros setting up a gofundme for me.

I recently looked into getting surgery here in the USA. Cash price if I took insurance out of it was $55,000 here in the USA for a two hr surgery walk in and out the same day. Back in Australia where I'm from it's only $5000 cash though the private health system. If I wait a while it's free in the public system. I'd also get a bed in Australia for that price. With my insurance here in the USA I'd still be out of pocket $8000. The currency exchange makes it even better in Australia too. How can the price difference of FIFTY THOUSANDS DOLLARS ever be justified???? Here's were the problem starts with the USA system and it's not even being talked about I guess because no one knows any better?

The scenario above scares the crap out of me having a family here to be honest. We have decent insurance but if one of us has an accident or gets sick we are still screwed. Hopefully we can board a plane.

$3,145,00. has exceeded the $ request. Heal up Jeff, and get insurance before you sling a leg over a bike again.

Jeff is stupid for riding without insurance. Everyone can be all 'let's stay positive' but I call out stupidity when I see it. Shitty situation, but stupid decisions put people in shitty situations.

Having said that, these quotes are also stupid. Most guys that can barely qualify for the night show aren't making a living racing dirt bikes. They don't end the year with 50K in disposable income. Jeff doesn't have Mike Alessi money. He is a normal guy who tries to make some money by racing a dirt bike sometimes.

Not trying to be an ass here, But Jeff take note here. You do a dangerous sport, maybe health insurance should be the responsible thing to have before you step onto a dirt bike, Just like paying auto insurnace, homeowners insurance. ( and how is it that you are not fined for not having it like everyone else?) Besides some of the dumb stuff you have done in the past, not going to post them, you know. Take responsibility in you're life, Non of us like to pay ridicious amounts for Health ins but we do, I kinda understand the GoFund me and that you need help, maybe borrow money from a family member and pay them back would be alot easier, Maybe sell you're bikes? Auction off you're gear on Ebay ect. I suggest you start thinking ahead in you're life of the what if's? stop the pattern of irresponsibility, think before you do. I have heard horror stories of how medical bills have financially ruined people, dont let that be you. Hope this helps and i do hope you get better, sucks being hurt, been there!
