Which National to attend?

I was originally intending to make the trip over for the MXdN this year...how awesome that would have been. Well since that has gone out the window I think I will treat myself to a National, question is which one would be best, best atmosphere/representation of a National event?

I would imagine Red Bud would be pretty high on the list. Plus its the Fourth of July.

Unadilla could be a fun one, you can fly in to New York and do some tourism stuff while at it! That might be the plan for my next usa trip.

Personally i've only been to a race at Glen Helen and i loved it! Was out in SoCal for 2 weeks and saw all of the legendary tracks and some of the shops (Pro Circuit Woohoo )

Southwick if you want to see some intense racing, Red Bud if you want a fun weekend of racing and setting off fireworks, Unadilla if you want to get drunk and set things on fire.

I would say Glen Helen plus as mentioned all the other tracks you can visit. Viewing is good too. Also if you come the weekend before you can see Hangtown National as well, they are only about 7 hours apart.

I have only been to one East coast track and that's Budds Creek. 2006 Nationals and 2007 MX of Nations. Both times were fantastic and the viewing is pretty good. You also have DC to tour. If you come out West, I have been to both California rounds and also Washougal. Hangtown has better viewing than both but Washougal is simply a beautiful area. Not so beautiful at Hangtown or Glen Helen. If you like big hills, Glen Helen is ridiculous.

Airport distances are about a half hour to 45 minutes for all of them from what I remember. Glen Helen is probably closer (Ontario). Washougal is right across the river from Portland and you won't need your passport to get from Oregon to Washington Wink .

Red Bud is nice, but Millville is pretty awesome also. Maybe I've been to Red Bud too many times. I'd rate them High Point, Iron Man, then Muddy Creek after that of the ones I've been to that are still on the schedule. Thinking Unadilla and Budds Creek maybe this year since they're a week apart and somewhat close to each other.

Ironman was awesome last year. Great track with pretty decent viewing. Wahougal is gorgeous viewing is a bit average but still good. Budds was good with good viewing.
Hell if your going to any US national it's a win win situation

You really can't go wrong with most of them, but I find extreme heat (Budds Creek) makes for a relatively less rewarding experience. What else would you like to see/do in the U.S? Have you visited before? Will you return at a later date? California is undoubtedly the center of the MX world, with many more MX attractions than any other part of the country. Are you interested in U.S. history (Boston, Philly, Washington DC)? Mountains, beaches....?

I have been to Washougal. He is right it is very beautiful there but the viewing is not the best with all the trees.

I have been to:

Southwick
Buds
Washougal
Glen Helen
Hangtown

Out of those while all being good, at Glen Helen I was awestruck at the length and steepness of the hills. You can't even describe it and the pros rip down them. The jumps are big too. I walked away at the end of the day just thinking how sic the day was. Buds is a good one too but not quite as awesome. Red Bud is on my list to see.

If you want to go to the Glensdyland of MX you should attend the National at Glen Helen but any National is good. Washougal is the most beautiful track. Any west coast the weather can either be cold or hot but the east coast has the humidity.

I've only been to Washougal, and it's a great track but you have to be willing to move around and see different areas of it. You definitely can't just be a sitting spectator and see as much as you'd like to.

If I were going to the east coast, I'd probably want to see Unadilla the most simply because of the history, but Budds Creek, Southwick, etc. would be fine if it fit into a schedule I had.

I can't speak for other Nationals other than Washougal, but the crowd is much more tilted towards "participants" than a SX, even if most of us haven't actually participated for many years! Just a completely different feeling to me.

Thunder Valley is a great race, easy to get to, close to good lodging and restaurants. The track is great to watch from numerous locations.
