From washougal 2001 to Hangtown 2006, RC lost 2 overalls. 2. Two! Dos!

You guys are forgetting just how fucking dominant he was.

Only ones that say otherwise are MC fanboys that are butthurt their idol got spanked 13 races in a row in 2001..

People don't forget, but it's hard to care when said rider is an arrogant soulless tool. I'm not a huge MC fan, but I'd much rather swill beer and bullshit with MC.

No disrespect to MC.....he has nothing to explain or prove......but RC would almost always make me shake my head in disbelief when I watched him pin it and hang on around the whole track. It pisses me off that they were born with so much talent and I wasn't...Smile It seems anymore I run short on talent pretty quickly...

MC: 72 sx wins. RC: 48 sx wins. How the fuck can you tools say "no question" RC is the GOAT. That's ridiculous. MC chose not to race outdoor so he could go bang chicks at the lake during the summer, he didn't care about outdoors. RC cared deeply about sx. RC looked like a goon every time he blitzed a set of whoops. MC is the GOAT of supercross no one will ever break 72

It's easy to tell who the "fanboy" is. Try harder slick.
No fanboy here. Simply stating facts.

Ricky Carmichael is the greatest motocross racer of all time. There is no arguing that. MC is the greatest supercross racer of all time. If you want to label someone the greatest at both it would be Ricky because he has more collective wins and championships across both the different disciplines.

Honestly I think people that want to argue about Ricky not being the GOAT in motocross are people who don't like Ricky so it hurts them to hear people call him the GOAT, i.e. Matthes. Speaking of Matthes, he is way off base when he says that the GOAT is only a nickname for Muhammad Ali. I hear sports commentators use the term all the time taking about basketball, baseball, etc. I actually searched about the use of the acronym in sports one time and found an interesting article that talked about the first time it has been documented as being used in different sports.

People forget that it was Matt Walker brown nosing RC that named RC as "The Goat"..

Since when has Matt Walker been right about anything?

Consider that McGrath created Carmichael. He created the GOAT. They are interlinked, interwoven. Because after nearly a decade, with no one able to successfully outgun McGrath in SX (yes I know about 97), it took Johnny O'Mara and his intense training program to change the tides, revolutionizing the sport in the process.

Think about that.

It was BECAUSE of McGrath's unbelievable abilities, that it became evident (nearly 10 years later I might add) that in order to dethrone this champion, it would mean changing everything we knew about training, about preparation, diet, and mentality.

Johnny O'Mara, brilliant as always, saw precisely what others didn't. He knew instinctively what it would take to beat McGrath. And he, along with others, reformed this young man into what he eventually became. Without McGrath's bar set so high, there would be no GOAT. I think it's kinda cool to see it that way, because it's the truth.

Again, the greatest Supercross of ALL time is 2001 San Diego. Why this hasn't been echoed more baffles me beyond reason. If you don't "get" why that race [in particular] is the greatest showcase of Supercross on so many levels, I'm at a total loss.

That's a cool post. My hat goes off to you.

In some ways RC was a throwback to the early 80's when those guys trained like animals. It would have been interesting to see how things played out if RC and MC's careers had overlapped more, would Ricky's eventual work ethic have trumped Jeremy's talent? Would it have forced the King to train harder?

He did it in a supercross too, Everyone except JS7, and it was muddy. Don't remember which round, but it was 2006

He also sort of bad-lucked out of the 93 125 title.

MC "created" RC.
RC's mom got him 95% of the way there and then Jeremy flipped the switch on creating the monster Ricky became Smile

I dont like that GOAT moniker because it takes away from so many different people in different eras. Is RC truely the greatest? According to the record books yes, but the record books dont tell the whole story, they tell the story of his timeline. Others, in other eras might have beat him, or might not have, we'll never know.

Personally I think that GOTE fits much better, but JUST BECAUSE I disagree with it, doesn't mean he didn't earn the GOAT.

Ricky was a flat out juggernaut that mowed down some of the best riders ever race after race, season after season. Someone mentioned him winning 70 straight motos. He hardly missed any time due to injury and when he lost he almost always went on a winning tear immediately afterward. I am neither Jeremy or Ricky's biggest fan but if you were to quantify Jeremy's talent, Ricky's heart and desire were much much larger imho. GOAT.

It's quite obvious that when people refer to RC as being the GOAT they are including sx and mx. To that extent, on pure wins, titles, and dominance, RC is undeniably the greatest of all time. End of story.

It's not even close. RC was one knee injury away from having 6 supercross titles, only 1 less than MC. If he had gone full time in 2007 he might very well have won that one also. Outdoors, the man was simply untouchable by any metric you care to name, or any new one you can conjure up.

He had the eye of the tiger. He never did the putrid "supercross only" nonsense, and was an outdoor moto warrior who truly struck fear in the hearts of his competitors all around the world. If you were up against RC outdoors ANYWHERE, you were screwed. Never, ever lost an outdoor championship. There is NO DOUBT had he finished the 2007 outdoor season, he would have won that title as well. How many outdoor titles did MC win again?

MC's comments are simply the butthurt of a great champion whose ego cannot admit that someone who came after him that was better, more determined, and more driven to be the best he could be at all times.

I love MC and the contributions he made and continues to make to the sport, but let us be real shall we?
