What do you need to change for the SSS swap?

all you need is the triple clamps off of a 06-09 yz450. the shock bolts right on(same lenth) is might even be the same shock...and then you might need to rig something up with the front brake, i used the whole front brake from my dead 09 250f

Built this one during winter. Spent alot money on the engine, probably the best engine i have ever ridden. Too bad i wasn't able to get yellow fuel tank.

My 2001 and 2014

How do you like the 2001YZ? I realize the bikes are similar and the engine is near identical aside from porting changes and if the 01 had the SSS in a sided by side comparison how would you rate it?

I asking because hard times forced me to sell my 03 YZ250 and for the FORST time since i was 5 years old i do not have a bike and i am soooooo bummed. As soon as i can get back on my feet im getting another YZ250 its funny though there is a large price drop from 02 to 01 or 00 and from my understanding the bikes are very similar so im grabbing the first bike i have enough money for which will likely be an 00 or 01 just so i have a bike underneath me... Just wanted to get your thoughts on the 2 bikes and their differences.

J Day race bike with a fresh 180 decal set. 19" wheel in this pic for MX but I use an 18" offroad tire/wheel combo for racing.

@ an excellent rider friendly AirBnB near Minot, ME & Hemonds MX park.

Honestly I think the '01 turns better, the suspension is obviously better on the '14 espicially after Enzo got it dialed in. the '01 is kinda setup for woods riding but the motor is real smooth and linear. Not as much punch as the newer one or over rev but the bike is 100% stock minus flywheel weight. Front brakes have been updated to a 2013 CRF 250 master cylinder and caliper. Big improvement. I have no complaints.

So lets assume the 01 had KYB SSS suspension on it (forks at least) and oversized front rotor w/ upgraded Honda master cylinder and caliper... Wouldyou say that the 01's (with a fresh top end) only only real shortcoming wouasald be a slight lack of overrev and "hit?"

Maybe thats cured with a PC Pipe and Outdoor length silencer?
Worst case scenario, the above mentioned exhaust system adn a reputable porting job by someone that knows what theyre doing and knows the bike.

That bike will take the SSS Upgrade, 09+ Swingarm Upgrade and i believe the newer gripper seats fit too no? I cant thinkof anything else that bike would need and the swingarm mod isnt even necessary. Personally im a huge fan of the way these bikes looked before thhe redesign, not to say i dont like the 02+ design but there is something miminalist and "racey" about the aesthetics of these bikes. A factory Yamaha hraphics kit makes them look amazing as well.

There was a Vital Member that was selling an 01 with all these upgrades and the bike looked KILLER!! Cant remember his name but maybe he'll chime in and ill find the thread i posted or pics of the bike.

Didnt mean to hijack guys .... Carry onwz q

I rode a YZ250X last week. I jumped straight from my KTM XC onto it and boy does it have me thinking. Suspension was so much better. I felt very comfortable almost right away. Some fine looking YZ's here. Keep them coming!

I rode the yz250x this weekend and wasn't impressed at all. I then hopped on my buddies ktm 250 and liked it a lot more. I'm sure the yz250x can be a great machine with some modifications but stock did absolutely nothing for me.

Neither beats my 2011 yz 250 though!
