Not particularly. 13 450 riders and 9 250 riders listed on the injury report. I think the veterans are more prone to injury than the young guns due to a number of reasons; more career injuries suffered, older, more brittle bodies, past their prime, getting burned out from the grind, etc.

Can't believe no one got my reference yet! Grinning it does suck seeing the top guys out, though. This would've been one hell of an outdoor season.

Plants and trees are attacking the riders?

The year Grant Langston won the Nationals championship, a whole slew of faster and better riders went out during the course of the season. It didn't hurt at the end for Langston to get the new 07' Yamaha frame for the last 4 races. I remember Tim Ferry and I think Andrew Short were battling with him but the new frame really helped Grant in the end.
The other season was I believe 09' when Reed won an outdoor championship. He definitely was not the fastest rider when the season started. Josh Grant , Mike Alessi, and several other riders went out that season as well. Both were faster than Reed by a long ways when that season was underway. It was won because Reed survived with no injuries. Didn't hurt that Reed had also taken out that insurance policy on his season that paid him very well.
You are just making shit up. Name the "slew " of riders faster than Langston in 07 that fell out. RC retired , not injured. JS..... is the only 1. 1 is not a "slew".

Kenny Roberts was quoted saying "throttle goes both ways".
Seems to work for Christoph Pourcel so far. He's a smart dude

450's just take their toll on the riders! Imagine pushing a 450 as hard as those guys do? Those bikes will have their say sooner or later!

How can you possibly think that a bike with an extra 20 lbs and 200cc's could not be more dangerous. Wtf ever happened to a little common sense. 450s buck back harder. It's pretty damn simple.

Read brimx's post, I agree with him. There are plenty of dudes in the 250 class that are banged up. At the speed mcelrath hit the dirt in southwick, you think the bike size would make a difference? These guys are going faster than ever on both bike sizes, hitting some of the biggest jumps we've ever seen on a week to week basis. The 450 is a contributing factor but it is definitely not "the" issue

I get your numbers theory and that has some cred to it but let me explain something called TORQUE to jtiger.

It's the difference between having to fight Jose Aldo or fighting Brock Lesner. They both can and will knock you out. If I had to pick, I'd rather be slammed by Aldo, then crushed by Brock. Riding a 450 wide open takes another kind of animal. Hence why not all 125 to 250 guys and all 250 to 450 guys become or became great on the bigger bikes.

The only thing that's crap tiger, is in your shorts. DOH

Smack it, flip it, rub it down.

Football players get tackled
Soccer players flop
Dirt bike riders crash

Three things that will never change.

This statement,

"450's that's what... 250 guys are all fine... I'm just saying"

Is false. All the 250 guys are not fine, it has been mentioned several times now.

I've had more crashes because I didn't have enough power (casing jumps, dropping the front wheel in holes, burying the front end, etc) on smaller bikes vs bigger ones. IMO i think the extra power is a good safety margin to prevent crashes sometimes.

I agree 100%.

3 of the top 20 in points have missed races in the 250 class.

10 of the top 20 in points have missed races in the 450 class.

Peick has had some gnarly crashes, including Tickle's bike landing on his head, and seems to bounce right back. Maybe these guys need to train to bulk up a little for durability rather than train like a cyclist. These guys take football intensity hits but often weigh 140. It's like the kicker getting mowed down by a 250 pound guy running full speed.

Can we just ban scrubbing already? Maybe a rider's union will not only limit practice time but also ban this horribly dangerous action as well as penalizing riders that attempt to "quad" .

450s, scrubbing, quad god's , what's this world coming to?

Just kidding on all of the above .

Let's just ban dirt bikes and make everyone safer!

Roerblading is where it's at anyway.

I get why a young kid would want to be Lebron James. It's so clean and glamorous and Jay Z comes to watch you play.

Imagine a young kid wanting to be Trey Canard/Josh Grant/ Pourcel/ Hell even Ryan Dungey just broke his neck and he "never" gets hurt. The heroes in our sport comes in from motos with his mouth full of dirt, physically exhausted and then you have to imagine how 30-80 years is going to feel when this is all over and all of the injuries really start to show. Also the general public has watched a basketball game and has heard of Jordan but in mx we deal with

"Can you backflip?"
"How fast does your bike go top end mph?"

No and Idfgaf

Plus you may have to buy a few KTM mini bikes, listen to ball parents calling you child abusers and someday pay to use/buy a facility a chunk of what your job accrues because it is a necessary and unprovided precursor to success not provided like in ball sports making more money.

The future freaks me out. But I will ride MX and watch it forever. We are all addicted.
Im having a hard time understanding what you are saying in relation to the injury question. Not calling you out, just curious.

It is pretty simple in the end! The jumps have become bigger, the bikes are bigger, and the bikes are faster yet our bodies have not changed!

Who is to blame? We are now seeing 150 to 180 ft jumps on outdoor Nationals and then there are those people who made rules to force everyone over to fourstroke 450's that weigh 250lbs?

I think they can take some of the blame! After all they are the one's leading the sport and leaders get credit when things go well and wait for it.......................they get the blame when things don't go so well.

Hotshot 250 pilots trying to get the 450's to respond and set lap times like they could on their 250's. And they're getting hurt trying to do it. Unfortunately most never will.

Must be frustrating for Musquin, I think he'd cut 30 sec to a minute of his moto times if he were still running his 250 in the 450 class. Baggett too.
