Emig Lock-on Grips

So I got a free pair of these when I ordered from Motosport and I have yet to try them. They feel very hard...are they worth it?

Ha! Yeah or mail them to me. They suck. I'll dispose of them for you.

Seriously they are great grips. My favorite. Easy to install and wear great.

How do they feel as far as thickness in comparison to a single density grip?

I just installed a pair of these on my sons 80 tonight. They do seem hard but i sure hope he likes them cause they were easy as hell to install.

I've been using them for a few years. I was a die hard Renthal Kevlar grip guy before, but I really like the Emig grips. Ktm is using them on all their bikes for a reason, most people like them.

I tweeted Emig a year ago about this, there's one softer compound. It should be the grey/black one, as it's the one I use.

Maybe the best thing to hit the moto market ever!

I am going to pick up another new set tomorrow.

I like the feel of them, but the best thing about them is how easy they are to install, not fucking around with glue or wire, just bolt those suckers on and you are done.

They are thicker and harder than the renthal half waffle mediums I used to use.. However I have got used to them rather than being picky because they are SO GOD DAMNED EASY TO INSTALL!

(I wonder if ShylaD has made a dilly out of some yet)

I have beed using them for a couple of years, love them. Even though KTM come stock with ODI, I prefer the Emig models, my son prefers the KTM powerparts ODI grips.

I use them and love them, they are a little thick so I just slice the waffles off with a razor blade and they are perfect.....
The ease of install out weighs any negative by far....

Hardening up and getting used to them is still a shit load easier then cutting off old grips and getting covered in glue

I think they are pretty much the same as the ODI lock on grips that come with the KTMs and i will never ever use anything else than the lock on ODI grips.

The Emig grips are made by ODI.

I had the Emig grips, but switched to the new V2 ODI grips when the Emig ones wore out. I really like them! No more twisted grip and they offer pretty good traction.

I must be slightly retarded then. I bought some and couldn't get them to fit on my bike. Even took the set screw completely out and tried to hammer them on. Ended up breaking them and put some other grips. Anyone know what I did wrong? Are there multiple sizes? I have pro taper Windham bend bars. Not that it should matter I don't believe.

ive used them on lots of bikes, on my current yz i have pro taper fusion bars, and the left side didnt want to go on i also removed the screw and tried to open it up with a small screwdriver
i think the knurling on the left side of pro tapers must be slightly larger
i did get them on, put a piece of wood over the end of the grip and tapped it on with a plastic hammer, it kinda ripped the end a little
next time ill file the knurling a little ,
other than that i like the grips

Same here I just put a set on my twin walls and had to tap the left side on with a rubber mallet past the bar end and they slid right on

I ruined a set as well fitting on to pro taper fusions. I did get a second set on with minimal damage by the rubber mallet method but on the next set I will knock down some of the knurling on the bars.

I have emailed ODI about this and have yet to get a response.

I've never had a problem with grips coming loose while racing so I just went back to regular glue on grips. Sucks that ODI didn't reply to brocster.

I had tried lightly tapping it on, but it wasn't working so I ramped up the force eventually until I had to break them off the bars.

I did the same as you. The Emig ones were a little too smooth for me but the Odi ones were closer to the Renthal grips I loved but without the bullshit safety wire and grip glue.

For the people having a hard time, you simply use a file or even coarse sand paper to tone down the knurl. They slide right on after that.

I use them for my sons minis, they take so much more abuse, it actually saved me a lot of money!

Too hard, too fat, and I think they're fugly with the Emig branding. Others seem to love them. They are easy to install, but I find it pretty easy to spray a little clear coat in the grips I actually like and slide them on the bars. I also trust that a glued on grip will hold better or give an indication before sliding off unlike a grip held on with a small allen screw. Just my opinion.

I came stock with a built in torque wrench. Tighten until my elbow clicks and call her good. Last I checked I'm calibrated to 25ft lbs.
