The problem is that it's not a 5th gear tapped jump, or a 4th tapped jump, it's a jump that has a forever long run that they have to time to land. Watch the onboard with Tickle, he is barely on the throttle to jump it.

Laroccos Leap and the Fly 150 are out of a corner and you have to be on it to make it, and the guys check up and don't do it if they make a mistake. You don't over jump Laroccos Leap. And for the most part the guys outside the top 5 aren't even jumping it. This jump everyone will be jumping every lap.

This jump is stupid in my opinion. It's not necessarily the size of it that's the problem. It's the shortness of the landing, and having an uphill straight after it. Add to that the fact that you have a long fast run up to it, it makes it even worse as it makes it easy to over jump, you actually have to scrub speed off to clear it. If it was a bit closer to a turn and it was everything you've got to clear it, it would be better. Jumps like this are just unnecessary.

The face with of that 3rd landing is virtually vertical as well, not clearing it isn't an option or the results may be even more catastrophic than an OJ. I just don't know what goes through people's heads when they build these jumps. People are going to be racing over that, 2, sometimes even 3 abreast. Not just hitting it for fun on a practice day

Have we forgotten that is for a pro race? These guys are fully capable of timing the speed with other people.

Listen to Tickles commentary of his helmet cam video - right from a "Pro Racer".

The dip / G out / face nature of the landing area(s) is the thing that tips it into the unnecessarily dangerous side, I reckon. TV / the crowd seem to have to have the 'big/ long air' features nowadays, but they shouldn't get fed carnage - though that's why quite a few watch.........

I'm with you Ryan. It's not necessary. Like the downhill jump at Matterley. Cool to watch for a few laps but then it's the same old, same old. So you go watch somewhere else where you can see more of the track and some overtaking. I mean, where do you guys watch from at Matterley?

For what they add, jumps like that just aren't worth the risk they pose IMO.

But, at the risk of sounding morbid, it'll take a death of a top rider or two for that to sink in.

Ask the riders if they like it. . .

Adam c posted on his Instagram last Thursday that the jump, more or less, made his test day fun instead of boring. Top jimmy said he was pumped to ride press day and "hit some boosters".

Have you ever hit a big jump at your local track? It's freaking fun if it is within your skill range. I have to be careful because I usually can't get it right on the first try, (and this was probably the first attempt by the guy that taco'd his wheel).

That being said, I can see the dangers it presents also

Well you saw where we watched at Matterley last year, on probably the fastest corner on the track, cos it's awesome to see them on the gas round there.

My worry is that when they finally decide that these jumps are pointless and unnecessary, it'll be a reactionary decision from someone getting seriously hurt.

The argument that some are making that these are pros is a real dumb one in my opinion, and if you're saying everyone out there has the ability to do it easy and perfect every lap, then really what is the point of it at all, you may as well have just a flat straight. There is pretty much no time to be made up through that section of track, but the penalty for getting it wrong is massive.

UUHHGG!. My body hurt after just watching that. Is that dude ok? That was a hell of an impact.

Big Air------ Massive landing needed.

This is not MORE dangerous, it is LESS dangerous because you need a larger margin of error the larger/faster the jump is.

Whether you are Dungey or this kid and A kit or showroom stock suspension, when you wreck your bones are just as strong/weak as the dudes in the 70s who were jumping 10 feet high.

How does "rag tag sideshow" freestyle understand this but "professional polished" MX can't grasp it?

Man, it looked like it wouldn't have been so bad had the wheel not exploded. Still not fun but maybe not as painful!

Leave the big jump, remove the wall of a face in the next one. This rider still would have weeded hard but not into the face of the next jump.

The jumps that scare me the most are of this type. If I OJ, I'm fucked. If I short it and bounce hard into the next face, I'm fucked.

You have to be both accurate and precise while hucking a large distance.

Bogle stated about the "massive ridiculous jumps" that they are "fun to play on, let's see how they are for racing."

The thing is, all these guys can jump it, no problemo. But to do it 30 min +2 laps with deeper ruts, bumps and kickers, that makes it dangerous..

The jump they had right there last year was perfect for me, hopefully there will be no accidents tommorow.

as a gh local, this is typical of the track builder who has no jump experience at all. imo, big jumps ought to be at the end of a rhythm, not in the middle for sure. and they ought to be wfo safe to overjump...

my post isnt about just this jump, but all the socal tracks, The jumps are getting way too big, more and more people are getting hurt on them, and it also deters people from riding tracks because you have to ride decent in order to hit them, and lets be honest.. most of us on here are mediocre at best.. Im a local C class clown, and i find the big ass booters as more of a risk than anything, and quite frankly it deters me from the track and i have ridden my whole life. As an adult i do not have the luxury to have that much risk. i wish all the track builders would understand. Not everybody wants to go pro, some of us ride for fun.

Nope. But neither did a straightaway for Tomac, a standard triple for Roczen, a small rhythm for Villopoto, a table for Reed, a single for Dungey, whoops for Stewart, sand for Mookie, etc.

People crash regardless of skill level.

Elsinore back in the day had a huge 120+ ft double a couple people whadded bad on...
I-5 had a 100ft step down step up people died on.. Pala has a monster quad right now, Race Town had a 110ft step up, Compedge had a gnarly step up, LACR had a gnarly step down at about 140ft and step up at 100ft and recently at the new LACR Rookie White jumped the whole track on a quad jump.... I can name more but every track in Cali has a jump over 90ft... at least. If theyre too big most tracks have vet tracks Wink
