DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
They were well-positioned after the factory team shut down, but Yamaha was rumored to bring it back almost every year.
In the end, after all these years of OEM-supported private teams, I think we can conclude that the OEMs really prefer to run the premier teams themselves. It's a point of pride for the company. Why farm out the efforts to newbie, fickle private owners, particularly when you have your own proud factory racing heritage.
The NASCAR-ization of the sport isn't happening, not at the top.
Ive seen it work though. If the private team is REALLY good at what they do, it can save the OEM a lot of money to farm out the factory race effort. And it doesnt have to be at the expense of branding.
Gresini runs Aprilia's MotoGP effort. Husqvarna used to farm out their MXGP effort to Ricci Racing. Yosh Suzuki hasnt been the "worst" thing for Suzuki. McLaren was Honda and later Mercede's official F1 outfit for decades. Honda's in-house F1 team never came close to the success Ron Dennis got them. If the two parties are willing to work closely with one another, it can be a great arrangement.
Pro Circuit is more than capable of running Kawi's Factory Team. JGR is more than capable of running Yamaha's. Heck, the way TwoTwo was staffed, they couldve been Honda's official team if asked.
Ultimately tho I think it's more about control than pride. As many have said on the forums the last 24hrs, JGR apparently wants to run their own show. If I could see ANY of the mfg's being ok with that, it would be Yamaha. But I guess they arent.
OEM-supported teams were probably an invention of accountants looking to save money. But aside from spreadsheets, the People That Matter in each OEM probably learned that they didn't like losing control.
SX is a much different experience than going to a Nascar race. You have the pits, the atmosphere, connecting with the teams and riders, and kids love it. Nascar is popular because an older generation can sit and watch 10 hours or so of Nascar program any given weekend on their 50in TV while drinking a cold beer out of their fridge!
JGR modifies a Yamaha motorcycle...
You're going out of the way to talk down to Katoom
Yeah, it is. I’ve had to do it two years in a row now. Last year was a complete meltdown. But this year I’ve been taking it how it comes and trying not to get bummed out with my finishes. It sucks pretty bad getting lapped ; it’s pretty terrible. But you know, I’m trying to stay positive. The future is bright right now!

I don't want to interpret to much into this but whatever is going to happen, it seems positive for barcia. his comeback was not good and I wouldn't really expect him to say this at this point. if you are getting lapped nothing like 'the future looks bright' would come to my mind at least. hope he right tho.
Pit Row
Since 01 KTM has won mulitple races in the states, come 2nd in the small bike outdoor title 3 times, 2nd in the 450 title twice (till 11) and since won 450 outdoors three times, in SX has come 3rd three times, 2nd once, and won it twice...
It's a business first and foremost and if they are not making the profit they need to they are out of MX.
It is much more expensive to run a factory satellite team these days.. Let's put these boys back in box vans and see what happens.
Are you in the industry? Do you have a clue how much it cost to run a program?
Why do you think they sub out the 250's?
This isn't the 70's and 80's when every kid in your neighborhood had a dirt bike.
If your not in the know don't make yourself look foolish.
By any objective measure they have a better record than JGR.
