I only say that because a "Toyota JGR Husky" graphics kit would be awesome and the first ever race replica graphics kit I'd ever put on my bike.

I will NEVER run a energy drink logo on anything I own. Clothing, graphics kit, or otherwise.
Just saw these on an email from JGRMX. Pretty cool and available for more than just Yamaha...

...so JGR starts this rumor that they are shopping for a new manufacturer, when the logistics of changing over an engine and chassis program to whomever else is kind of a huge deal?

I mean, are they going to throw away years of their own R and D on the Yamahas and start from scratch on a Suz/Kaw/Hon/KTM platform? How many years would that take?

Seems to me like an age old trick to get Yamaha's JGR contract money increased to me...
TLD honda to ktm did just fine and rockstar suzuki to ktm to husky did pretty well too. sometimes a fresh start isn't all that bad and it can be a rather great motivation as well.

I would be very surprised to see JGR go there because of how KTM goes about that program... JGR wouldn't be doing their own stuff if they got involved with KTM.

It seems like something about JGR has always rubbed Yamaha just a bit the wrong way.

They were well-positioned after the factory team shut down, but Yamaha was rumored to bring it back almost every year.

In the end, after all these years of OEM-supported private teams, I think we can conclude that the OEMs really prefer to run the premier teams themselves. It's a point of pride for the company. Why farm out the efforts to newbie, fickle private owners, particularly when you have your own proud factory racing heritage.

The NASCAR-ization of the sport isn't happening, not at the top.

Good points.

Ive seen it work though. If the private team is REALLY good at what they do, it can save the OEM a lot of money to farm out the factory race effort. And it doesnt have to be at the expense of branding.

Gresini runs Aprilia's MotoGP effort. Husqvarna used to farm out their MXGP effort to Ricci Racing. Yosh Suzuki hasnt been the "worst" thing for Suzuki. McLaren was Honda and later Mercede's official F1 outfit for decades. Honda's in-house F1 team never came close to the success Ron Dennis got them. If the two parties are willing to work closely with one another, it can be a great arrangement.

Pro Circuit is more than capable of running Kawi's Factory Team. JGR is more than capable of running Yamaha's. Heck, the way TwoTwo was staffed, they couldve been Honda's official team if asked.

Ultimately tho I think it's more about control than pride. As many have said on the forums the last 24hrs, JGR apparently wants to run their own show. If I could see ANY of the mfg's being ok with that, it would be Yamaha. But I guess they arent.

I think that "getting rubbed the wrong way" goes both directions - it seems to me that JGR has been politically correct about saying the right things but also signaling that they aren't happy.

OEM-supported teams were probably an invention of accountants looking to save money. But aside from spreadsheets, the People That Matter in each OEM probably learned that they didn't like losing control.

Just a hunch but with JD Gibbs unable to run things and Joe getting up there, that combined with a lack of success I don't see JGRMX as a shoe in for being here in 5 years. NASCAR is not the cash cow it once was but it's still where the money comes from, JGRMX without the NASCAR side would be much harder to make work. Not saying NASCAR supports the MX side but the MX side certainly benefits from the NASCAR sides operation. New manufacturer for a couple of years might be a hail mary. Again just a hunch after watching Bristol on Sunday, NASCARs glory days are over at least for now, 160,000 seats sold out every race for something like 20 years. If there were 50,000 people there I would be surprised.

Bristol's attendance was off this year, but does that really dictate the health of a sport? With the TV package and all the in-car cameras and such, I would guess that it's just a much better experience watching it on TV.

SX is a much different experience than going to a Nascar race. You have the pits, the atmosphere, connecting with the teams and riders, and kids love it. Nascar is popular because an older generation can sit and watch 10 hours or so of Nascar program any given weekend on their 50in TV while drinking a cold beer out of their fridge!

What im saying is JGR has been around for what, 10 years maybe? The first 10 years for JGR have been much more successful than KTMs.

How is that even a comparison? KTM/Penton produced their own motorcycles in the late 60's and raced what they produced.

JGR modifies a Yamaha motorcycle...

Talk about that frustration a little. Is it discouraging coming back and not being at that level?

Yeah, it is. I’ve had to do it two years in a row now. Last year was a complete meltdown. But this year I’ve been taking it how it comes and trying not to get bummed out with my finishes. It sucks pretty bad getting lapped ; it’s pretty terrible. But you know, I’m trying to stay positive. The future is bright right now!

I don't want to interpret to much into this but whatever is going to happen, it seems positive for barcia. his comeback was not good and I wouldn't really expect him to say this at this point. if you are getting lapped nothing like 'the future looks bright' would come to my mind at least. hope he right tho.

I own a ktm so I dont think thats is. People often talk about how JGR hasnt delivered and someone said they bet JGR wished it had KTMs success. Comparatively JGR has had success much sooner than KTM.

What 10 years are we talking about?

Since 01 KTM has won mulitple races in the states, come 2nd in the small bike outdoor title 3 times, 2nd in the 450 title twice (till 11) and since won 450 outdoors three times, in SX has come 3rd three times, 2nd once, and won it twice...

I remember watching Race Day Live either at Indy or St Louis and Barcia was shown off the track hanging his head in defeat, as if he went down and hurt something. Also showed him talking to someone from Asterisk, not sure if it was Bodner. Possible silent re-Injury of a thumb? Would put some logic behind his lackluster comeback.

don't think so. he was 3 months off the bike, not easy to get back up to speed in this 2 weeks of riding he had. it still will be good to have a view gate drops under his belt before the outdoors. if he can manage one or two top 5 for the remainder of this sx season, his confidence will be in a much better place than if he would have stayed at home and prepare for the outdoors. they made a lot changes to the bike as well.

They should switch to Honda( I know it won't happen ) and just own the 2017 CRF 450 mods like Kawasaki does with the KX.

It's working well for his father's Nascar Toyota factory program.

I have heard from a very reliable source that JGR is in talks with Kawasaki to take over the 450 program in 2017. I have also heard if that deal docent work out financially for JGR they will pull the plug.
It's a business first and foremost and if they are not making the profit they need to they are out of MX.

It is much more expensive to run a factory satellite team these days.. Let's put these boys back in box vans and see what happens.

taking over the kawasaki factory team? I'll give that a lol. why would kawasaki move away from a championship winning team to a team that won a hand full of races. (jgr is a great team but this makes zero sense.) next.

Money!! There is not much money being made in dirt bikes anymore. Manufactures make money on street bikes and ATV's these days. That's why lol!
Are you in the industry? Do you have a clue how much it cost to run a program?
Why do you think they sub out the 250's?
This isn't the 70's and 80's when every kid in your neighborhood had a dirt bike.
If your not in the know don't make yourself look foolish.

KTM didn't really have a proper 450 factory presence until five years ago. Since then they've won three outdoor titles and about to win their 2nd SX title. Before that they won a few 125/250f MX titles.

By any objective measure they have a better record than JGR.

JGR should call it a day. Talk about a total fail. They even had James in his prime and could not put it together. Barcia now looks like a C rider. Yamaha is back with a 450 Factory effort. No need for JGR moving forward.
