First time I ever had arm pump! I remember reading about it in the mags for years but had no idea what the hell it was?? and I had been riding since 1978

1 lap into my first moto........ I knew what Arm pump was.[/quote:3086e]
Ain't that the truth, but try Trials riding sometime if you want to see what Armpump really is.

A Friday night in the spring of 1974 at East Alabama Motor Speedway.
Took home a 5th place trophy in the mini class on a 73 XR-75. Went to the races that night with a guy from the neighborhood who had a badass Duster and a 3 rail trailer. He had a Bultaco 125. Another guy from the neighborhood went with his 74 CR125. Neither one trophied that night, and they both presented to give me shit all the way back to Georgia. We went into the Krystal all dirty from racing. The place was packed with fellow racers munching out, and raising hell! I will always remember the smell of that caster bean oil when we came down the hill approaching the track.

The first time I ran the 125 class was in the fall of 1977 at EAMS on a 78 CR125. I think I finished 3rd in the first moto, and crashed my brains out going into the last turn on the last lap of the 2nd moto after taking the lead. The dude I passed had just sprayed me going thru this bigass mudhole, and I passed him over the jump with my goggles covered in mud and ate it. So close yet so far! <img class= " title="Laughing">

[quote="oldfart":94759]1984? Used student loan money to buy an 82' CR125, (what a pile) broke my wrist within a week from a highside. Mom would never let me race as a kid so I had to wait until I was old enough. Albuquerque, can't remember the name of the place, out on the west mesa. Went into the first corner in 3rd and finished in 5th, with a cast on my wrist. Still have the plastic.[/quote:94759]
1st day on that bike, blown shock, & a cracked frame. Had a lot of fun on that bike once we got it sorted out, but very high maintenance.

Anyone remember the Honda Frame Brace kit for the 82 CR125 ?
The official line was, "There is nothing wrong with the frame, but we do sell this kit for the Pro's" <img class= " title="Laughing">

After 4 months 3rd gear forced itself halfway out the cases.

Kids these days have no idea how lucky they are to have such solid machines by comparision.

Sounds like they stole Kawasakis 1980 frame design. My grandfather welded for Nasa but he could not keep that thing from cracking.

First moto cross race in 1974 i was 12 yoa had a tricked out Suzuki TM 100 Lucky Landing in Dallas Texas, Grabbed the holeshot in the first moto and led for about 1 lap then i started showing off and crashed for the cameras LOL finished in the middle of the pack, same results in the second moto hole shot led for awhile then i started seeing my father at every jump and he was making me nervous yelling at me to slow down i ended up jumping this really big jump and landed in the trees Ouch needless to say by the time i got back up and got the bike started i was in the middle of pack which is where i finished

My second race was at Lake Whitney but that is another story Smile

First race was at Escape Country, CA. in either 72 or 73. Used a Kawasaki Trail Boss 100 with the lights removed and a Hooker pipe. Got the holeshot but never made the first turn, went straight over the berm. Not sure were I finished, but it's usually the spot ahead of those who DNF.

Saddleback - Mini bike class 1972. When the mini bike class was a true mini bike class. Home made stuff, trail 50's etc... I had no idea where I finished. But I was hooked on fossil fuel engines, competition, and the whole racing scene in general. I'm sure this is the reason why I'm not a stick and ball fan in life. Engines and wheels rule...

1972. Two hour hare scrambles on a Honda SL70. Unadilla Valley NY area. 100 cc class. Finished 2nd behind Curt DeAgostino who was riding a Hodaka 100. Mud like I have seldom seen since.

I spent the next two weeks fixing my worn out bike.

I was hooked and I'll never forget it!!

June 4th 1974 OCIR High school race on one of the first Penton 250's

Don't remembered how I did, but it was the only time I ever got nervous on the line.

From then on out it was racing all the CMC races & Sat Saddleback for the 8 years.

Bought a new street bike in 1999 & found out from the parts guy about about Vintage racing in Texas & haven't stopped yet!

1982 Deer Valley Cycle Park in Phoenix, on a 82 KX80. First turn of the first moto, someone falls in front of me and I get tangled up with him. Kid behind me runs over my ankle, but I was so scared I just started riding my way around until the checkered flag (I think I beat a few guys but really don't remember much). Went back to the truck and got off the bike, and the pain set in. I had cracked my ankle when it was run over in the first turn, but was so nervous I did not notice the pain until after the moto.
Took a couple months off to heal, next mini beginner race was at Canyon Raceway and I went 3-3, I will never forget that first trophy. It seemed so large at the time (all 12" of it...).

My first race was at Big Oak MX in north TX, not too far from where Oak Hill MX is now. It was 1975 and I was 19 years old on a KX400 in the open intermediate class. I finished 2nd but there were only 4 riders in the class.
