HORNETDRIVER Started a new thread FAST MINICYCLE RACERS FROM THE '70s

1/15/2021 9:13am
First, howdy to the forum. I think I recognize a few very old friends from my youth racing NMA in the early - mid '70s. What I haven't seen is an update list on where some of the midwest hotshoes are. Can anyone fill in some blanks? Randy Tysor - Fastest kid I ever saw on an XR-75. From Riverton...

Malvern, OH - Great natural track. Had an AMA qualifier there back in 1980. Fun! Price, UT - Another great natural track. Had a dropoff that felt like 100' back on an 80 (probably only 30 or 40'). Springfield, MO - The famous wood chip track. Well, I liked it... Lake Whitney, TX - First track I raced my YZ-80C...

Tools>zoom> select the magnification that works for you. (at 400% it's pretty easily readable). I tried to post it using larger font, but I couldn't get the file to load properly. Or on an apple, just use the expand feature on the pad.

I'm going with the "original", "Flyin'" Mike Brown. NMA championship in Springfield, MO in 1976 - Mike made a very "aggressive" move on some kid named Jim Holley. Jim tried to catch Mike but didn't make it before the end of the moto. On the front straight where you exited the track, Jim ghost-rode his YZ-80 over a jump and...

Let's also not forget if you jumped the start, in addition to getting zapped by the ring on the band, after everybody lined up again you would most likely start the race lined up backwards for your sins. Seems to me we only did the hand on helmet thing for Hare Scrambles... Cheers.

I still have a scar on my ribcage from getting whacked at Agency, MO back in '74. At least the scar reminds me of winning the mini class!

Scott Burnworth won several classes in '79, Kehoe took those classes in '78. Not sure if George was there in '78 but I remember starting next to him in the 83cc Stock Expert Final on Sunday in '79. Pretty sure George didn't win a championship in '79 but he did very well. I need to get the old programs from...

Cooper's dad and my dad put new rings in my YZ-80E in '78 about 10 min prior to the final moto, so he was at least there in '78. I can't tell you what classes he ran without that old program. My dad kept copious amounts of notes and results. '79 was my last year in mini's then I moved...

Tom, I remember you as well and I even remember you and I racing pretty close at Midwest. Was it you who had the TM-75? I had heard a rumor some years back that Danny was killed in an auto accident...can't remember who told me. Too bad...what a nice guy. We timed Tysor one Sunday while he was racing with...

Same, same, here. My beloved XR was stolen in Dec '76 and I've never really recovered... They tried to steal my YZ-80C, but were probably startled by something and left it. We took the insurance money and bought an RM-80. Put a DG head, pipe and swingarm on it...and promptly broke the frame at a MX in Utah.... That turned...
