I know earlier that MR50Racer excluded XR75s but I will tell you that those were some of the funnest days of racing. Everyone was searching for an advantage on those because they were just not very fast. My dad put endless hours in them trying to keep them fresh. New timing chains every 4 races, rings, valve spring,ect..... They sounded so cool back then with the CDI and no real flywheel. Spaw ran a battery ignition that worked great but was a hassle. I wish I still had the RedLine frame for one but I sold it several years ago!

Aaaah, those were the days. I remember when we decided to punch out the old XR to run the 105 class (against Billy, I might add back in '76).

Powroll stroker crank
Hacienda Honda pipe and head (later a Bassini)
Powroll cam
new cam chain
new valves and "lighter" springs
CDI button mag
Boge shocks laid down
Stiffer fork springs
Drilling out or flat out removing the airbox and using a UNI filter...

Man, those days rocked.

I loved XRs and tried to continue racing them in 77 but finally had to move to the new RM80. That RM was a great bike for Suzuki's first real attempt until the frames broke!

Same, same, here.

My beloved XR was stolen in Dec '76 and I've never really recovered...

They tried to steal my YZ-80C, but were probably startled by something and left it.

We took the insurance money and bought an RM-80. Put a DG head, pipe and swingarm on it...and promptly broke the frame at a MX in Utah....

That turned into a YZ-80E that we took to Ponca city in '78 in the 83cc Stock Expert 12-15. I pulled a 2nd moto holeshot and was passed promptly by Scott Burnworth, and the rest of the fast SoCal crowd. I think I finished 9th or 10th... We didn't know about stuffing and veining of cranks and all the other "stock class" trickery of the day.

Although, that might have been Kehoe...

I was waxed by both and the trauma of it still has me confused between '78 and '79...

Is the resurection of a bike that came with disk brakes and upside down forks really old school? In cars, its mid 70's on back....Seems like old school around here is early 90's......If you are bringing back a maico, penton,carrabella, old husky, ossa, or anything like that I would consider that to be old school.......Just a rant.. take no offense....

I had a 1974 Suzuki TM that I would were lineman boots to ride in and roll my socks over the top. Saw those boots in my mom's attic about 5 years ago.
