It's been going on about three years now since I've had this. I wadded pretty bad on my bike ( My CRF450 ) and swapped out in a set of whoops about 3rd gear pinned , and catapulted over the bars landing on the back of my head , neck and shoulders. I got knocked out for just a few seconds , but when I came too , my neck was killing me along with three broken ribs and over all felt really beat up.

I never did go to the doctor , although I almost did a few days later , but around day 3 my neck started feeling a little better. It's never really fully recovered. But since that wreck , on both of my legs I have a dead spot. More like just numb all the time but every once in a while it feels like it's on fire , itches deep down inside ( hard to explain ). My left leg on the muscle I have circled is mostly just numb all the time , and on my right leg is where the burning , itching feeling sensation I get. It's about 2 - 3" wide and about 12" long , and it's just that one muscle , on both legs.

The muscle that is doing it , is the one I have circled and underlined. Was wondering if any of you may have any weird issues like this , and what would be the cause of it? It isn't affecting me in every day life what so ever , but just extremely annoying at times.

Nerve damage takes FOREVER to heal but 3 years seems much longer than it should take. Have you tried aspirin?

Dr. Vital will be here shortly to see you.

Jeff you need to go to a specialist, a girl I race with broke 3 vertebrae in her neck in 2013 and is experiencing the same thing in her arms still to this day, they have her on a nerve drug and it's slowly getting better, she still races but I am nervous for her, good luck

Nuerotin is the nerve medicine. Nerves grow at about .1" a year when severed and still alive. If it is dead, it wont grow at all. My roomate in college was hit by a car and severed his controlling nerves for his arm from his spine. He had nerves removed from his lower legs and spliced in to his spine and shoulder. It took close to 6 years for them to start connecting and firing. Its been 20 years since his wreck and he has about 60% mobility in his arm now.

The question for you, is the fire you are feeling gohst pains? Or are your nerve strands trying to heal and are firing off to make the connection.

You really need to see a specialist and see what is going on in there.

I was afraid to even ask this question on here because of some of the things people may say. It's one of the reasons why I never talked about it. I also had a feeling it had something to do with my neck and the nerves in some way. It took a good 3 - 4 days before I had the strength to even hold my own head up without it killing me. Being as stubborn as I am , I usually don't go to the doctor unless something is broken or sticking out of me that I can actually see. Again though , it isn't affecting my every day life , just really annoying at times. Almost scared as to what a doctor might say to be honest.

I'm not sure if it is a " Ghost pain " , but the pain when it hits usually feels like it's deep inside and under that specific muscle. Both aren't totally dead numb , but it's probably close to about 90%. From the skin , down to about 1" deep i would say and almost to the thigh bone. Very weird sensation.

One other thing , is my left leg where I usually never get any of the burning pain , it seems to come to life a little more here and there where I can actually feel it sometimes. The right one is the one that bugs the heck out of me sometimes.

Lyrica! Non narcotic nerve pain blocker. Go on, go off, no withdrawal or addiction crap. Try some 75's or 150's...stuff works and won't put you on the izzi/Stroupe party train-Smile

It sounds like you may have streched or pinched a nerve, the same tjing happeto me in 81. I had a bruise on my chest from my chin and from everything I've read and heard, I'm lucky to be walking. I'd go to the Dr for sure.

Jeffro,

So this is similar to posterior sciatica. The spinal cord has areas that are related to pain and areas that are related to numbness. Therefore, if something is pressing (disc) on it, it depends where the irritation is in relation to contact area in the cord. So you could have numbness only, pain only or a combo of both.

I dont think it is damage, per se, to the anterior nerve portion of your thigh. More so further proximal. In other words, your spinal cord. Having all of that been said, it is nearly impossible to dx a medical issue on a forum. But by your description, I would suggest that you see a practitioner to look at your cervical area with xrays, MRI, etc. as this could be semi-serious like disc damage, fracture, or some combo therein.

I know this question sounds dumb but have you had any issues going to the bathroom (#1 and/or #2)?

Jeffro, I had a spinal fusion in April of 14. Pelvis to the bottom vertebrae. Then I had pain in both hips after the surgery when I walked. Then about a year later I was fishing in a local bass tournament and my left leg went totally dead numb. Ended up having a herniated disc at the next up vertebrae. So I had that disc removed and the first vertebrae to the 2nd vertebrae fused. Now 3.5 months post surgery and my leg is still going dead. My foot tingles all the time and I have a place on my thigh that has been numb every since the first time my leg went numb...
I've been taking pain killers for years but they barely do anything anymore.

I hope you have better luck than what I've had..

kzizok basically typed out what I was going to go with.

I had pain and tingling in my middle/right upper back into my shoulder. Figured i had liver cancer and started to give away my Jofa collection. Doctor in late January diagnosed me with Thoracic Rediculopathy. There is a nerve in the middle of my back along my spine that is being rubbed. Though I dont have it, symptoms can include pain and numbness around the front of my core OR DOWN MY LEG.

He told me to go to physical therapy which I dont have time for right now and prescribed an antiinflamatory. I did go back to my chiropractor whom i havnt seen in a year and he knew what it was and he did an adjustment and made a big improvement but the pain is still there.

Basically, I need to get my back muscles in shape and work on my core or it wont get any better.

Go to a medic, because sometimes that kind of pain can be fixed with tens.

I have the exact same thing, except mine goes from my elbow up to my pinky and ring finger it happened 2 years ago when I ate shit at cahuilla and broke 3 vertebrae. The nerve got damaged around my shoulder area but ive found a small dent in my elbow from where i lose feeling wich goes up to those fingers.Doctor tells me its "ghost pain"

They've done xrays and MR's but cant find whats causing this. It may go away it may not. If anyone know how to speed it up hit me up lol

As others have said, go see a doctor. Nerve damage does take a long time to heal, and maybe it'll heal on its own. But it's better to have a professionals opinion.
I got nerve damage in my hands from an IV, that was over 6 months ago and I still have some problems from it.

BVT as in bee venom therapy helped me greatly and stopped the spasms I've had in my left calf for YEARS. Last treatment I was stung 10 times. It isn't a walk in the park let me tell you but I'm so glad I went through BVT.

Find someone in your area and put those bees to work. I'm seeing my acupuncturist/BVT person Jessica tomorrow for my first float tank experience and will ask if she knows of practitioners in the NW. You are in Portland area correct?

"The area of BVT research that seems the most promising is with neuropathic pain. Bee venom induces pain and inflammation acutely. A number of studies show that it also decreases markers of pain and inflammation following the exposure. This can simply be the effect of compensatory mechanisms kicking in. We see this as a general phenomenon – after any stimulus that causes pain and inflammation the body mobilizes mechanisms to counteract the pain and inflammation and reestablish the normal baseline. This effect is also temporary. Perhaps, however, the duration of the decrease in pain and inflammation is longer than that induced acutely by the sting."

The doc or a nerve specialist has probes to sense current through your body to pin point the nerve issue. Once you rule out the problem is nerve, other treatment that can be done is foam rolling that muscle or accu-puncturist.. yes it does work, I had to see it done on my wife in person to believe it. Does the muscle feel buldging or tight? Just a note about the muscle you pointed out, if you sit all day, I discovered that you can get nerve damage here as sitting stretches out that muscle causing inflamation and stays stretched out causing problems in that area as we were never ment ot sit that long in a chair.

Moto_Geek I had a terrible experience with nerve testing. All it did was torture me for 30 or 40 minutes in my doctor didn't learn anything from it just confirmed I had nerve damage in my calf. I was like TELL ME SOMETHING I DONT ALREADY KNOW!!!!

Jeff-I just texted Jessica and she said this guy is on Oregon but she didn't have contact information. Hopefully this link will provide a lead so you can track him down

I have multiple spots on my body with nerve damage from wrecks. I have one on my side, hip and groin area that still isn't healed from 10 years ago. I took a tire directly to my calf 9 years ago and have limited feeling there.

A diagnostic work-up would consist of a lumbar MRI, an NCV and EMG. An MRI will tell you if there's any disc bulges/herniations (spinal damage). An NCV will tell you how well your nerves are conducting electricty and if spinal damage is interrupting that transmission (speed and strength of conduction are important indicators). An EMG will tell you how well that electricity is received by the muscle through the attachment of the nerve (the motor point). Based on these 3 tests and your clinical presentation (symptoms you convey to the doc and anything else he finds upon physical examination) a specialist should be able to give you an idea of what's going on, or at the least, rule out anything else serious. One of the first things he'll ask is do you have diabetes. Then when you tell him that you crash your brains out periodically on your motorcycle....He'll just shake his head and move on...

My experience after going thru ultrasound MRI and nerve testing was underwhelming. My doctor was way better at ordering tests than he was at developing a plan of treatment. After losing faith in him I went the BVT route and got the relief I was looking for.

Funny I waited years to have insurance again only to find a treatment that actually worked wasn't covered by insurance. All those tests were a waste of time and money in my experience but I'm not dismissing the value of them for most people.

So i learned a few things in this thread and am glad for all the advice you guys have given me. I called my Chiropractor today , which has been a long time family friend. He told me it wouldn't hurt to come in and see him but he urged me to get an MRI on my lower back area. He said if the numbing is in my legs that most of the nerve endings for those areas are located in the lower spine and pelvic area.

I'm not sure if i want to spend any time on this right now due to my work schedule and it not bothering me all that much. But I'll have it looked at sooner or later.

Thanks again to you guys who kinda of steered me in the right direction and the helpful advice.

"but every once in a while it feels like it's on fire"

Jeff, i have those phantom pains in my legs, my feet are REALLY bad, feels like they are sitting in a pool of hot lava and i can literally feel the flesh melting off my bones. Its gotten worse as the years go by...(of course my situation is a whole lot different than yours)...speaking of that, Thursday is the anniversary of my accident...31 fucking years!

Go get it looked at, i would hate for it to be something that worsens over time bro, could be something as simple as a slight adjustment to remove pressure.

Nerve pain is no joke. I saw one of the top spinal surgeons from Stanford and he said in all his work, if there was ONE thing he could cure in his lifetime, it would be nerve pain. I've tried every med under the sun, i either get nasty side affects of they simply dont work.

That's interesting, years ago I fell over on some single track. My leg stayed in the rut... but the bike still fell over. Or basically, my calf was pointed up but my thigh was flat on the ground. Bent my knee 90* to the side. At that moment and for some time after I felt like the skin was literally burning off my leg/foot. I've always assumed gas had dripped from the carb into my boot. But maybe that wasn't it.... thankfully that feeling hasn't returned. And my knee is mostly functional now.

Two stings today followed by acupuncture then 90 minutes in the float tank. My back is better now especially after 30 dollar one hour student massage after work last night. Floating helps whatever ails you especially in a float tank with a 1000 pounds of Epsom salts.

Week from Friday four stings and acupuncture. Goal is to arrest the atrophy on the inside of my calf and increase muscle mass like we did on the outside of my left calf a year ago.

Anyone with a chronic condition who is looking for a Hail Mary solution after everything else has failed should definitely investigate BVT.

The downside is bees die in the process. My therapist has her own hive now and over the course of the last six months the hive has expanded a lot. The rationale is making an effort to expand the bee population you are harvesting from to offset the bee deaths.

My calf is starting to hurt now due to the swelling but no pain no gain.

Rock....are they honey bee's or something like a yellow jacket? Must be honey bee's since they are dying after? I know them damned yellow jackets will sting you 20 times and fly away smiling after they come in and ninja your ass when you're least suspecting it!
