What kind of grips would you guys recommend, pro taper or renthal are the only brands I'm interested in, just don't know if I want a pillow or type of waffle. What do you suggest?

Why not try them all? They aren't terribly expensive and there's no way we can tell you what you're going to like.

I hated the pillow top grips.

I always used renthal half waffle soft or medium compound grip. I started using the renthal half waffle soft double compound grips recently and that's what I'm going to stick with from now on. I highly recommend trying them out. But like grizz said, try them all out. What works for me may not work for you and so on and so on

Do you like a thick or thin grip?

Full baffle or half baffle?

I won't use anything but these Pro Taper RC Half Waffle grips!...They are soft compound and might not last as long as other grips but they are inexpensive and very grippy. I get arm pump when I run other grips, I don't get arm pump with these.

Renthal tapered Kevlar. They are soft and last a good while. For the first couple of rides for a new season......go with the Renthal soft compound until your hand get rough.

Rental kevelar. Super soft last a long time. I have half waffle non taper. I don't see pro taper pillow tops having the same amount of traction as a dimond and waffle type grip

Used to be Dougherty Grips. And the cool guys would cut thin strips off an inner tube and criss cross wrap the grip with the band.

Then it was Oury grips. I think the red ones were fastest, but the blue ones gripped better.

Never understood how anyone could stand Grab On Grips. Large diameter, squishy, slippery. Ugh.

Today...I like the half waffle Renthals. Medium.

AME XL. That's my next set. They are longer than standard. ProTapers are too narrow, and I don't have giant hands. But I do ride old school, with elbows out, and gripping like I'm turning a doorknob. It would be nice to have the extra room, and not have the side of your hand on the edge.

TAG Cradle grips are comfy, without being too fat. Medium compound is pretty soft feeling. I've had issues with them twisting, even with TAG glue and safety wire.

My old school favorites are good old Renthal full diamond soft. They are thin, but disappear when riding (figuratively, not literally).

Pillow tops suck when they get wet. If you ride offroad, something to consider.

Rental half waffle, hard compound. The hard compound lasts longer and I feel no difference with soft grips.

I've just purchased a pair of Renthals Ultra Tacky half waffle grips. Haven't ridden with them yet but put them on & boy are they sticky!!! I think they've sprayed something on them because even if you just touch them they leave an oily residue on your hands. I had to use degreaser to get the stuff off my hands.
