Did anybody catch the "don't listen to the man in the orange helmet" comment by ping in the racer x 450sxf dialed in segment video.
I think it's pretty funny. Ping basically says in stock trim the 450 kxf is a really good bike. Don't have to change much. Even though mxa often wants to change hundred things on every bike and really likes to point out and exaggerate a bikes shortcomings.
I thought it was really funny. You guys might not though lol.

I had noticed the Racer X vs. MXA brush war had virtually died out after the Glen Helen National was put back on the schedule. Plus the USGP. Hopefully that little snipe doesn't get it started again.
FYI: Ping rode the bike over a weekend. MXA tested & raced theirs for months. I have never read anything in MXA but high praise about the current SXF450, they only make suggestions they feel might help. The vast majority always seem to be true.
I read and love both magazines, but I certainly don't read Racer X for their bike tests.

That was great though "don't listen to the orange helmet"
Also ping was a factory rider..... jody never was or I think anyone who currently tests at mxa has had a factory ride either. Could be wrong idk.
He then went on a lengthy diatribe about how he has been riding bikes forever, and is so keen at determining what constitutes a good bike from a bad bike, that he only needed 50 feet from the truck to the trail head to determine it was junk.
He also added that the bikes he favors in shootouts are the ones that "listen MXA's suggestions" in the previous shootouts for the following year's bike. The fucker thinks he is the defacto R&D department for all 6 major manufacturers...
That is not arrogant. Arrogant doesnt even cover that. That's delusional. Extremely delusional. The OEMs don't give a fuck about an opinionated, arrogant old man. and if you think you can completely toss a bike to the wolves after 50 feet across a parking lot, you're higher than a kite. someone has to know what article im talking about.
This thread wasn't to bash mxa. Was just to point something out I thought was funny
Why does it seem like so many people in the industry have such beef with Jody Weisel?? I know Matthes and many others seem to not care for the guy much, and it just seems like I've heard of numerous others get on that bandwagon, but next to nobody take up for the guy. Seems to be a big line drawn in the sand between Team Jody / REM dudes vs. everyone else...
What's the beef??
You could not be more correct, after a couple little chats, the way he talked, you would have thought Jesus was fetching him coffee.
You understand that the OEMs already have most, if not all the 17 bikes made or tooled for by the time anybody does a shootout (The design of the 18s are most likely done also and fixing to tool for them now) , MXA is notorious for finding out that info and then rant about it in their shootouts like they know something. They've been doing this for decades.
problem solved.
Pit Row
Thats BMW 450 was the perfect example, or when that Cannondale motorcycle was produced. Dirt Rider called it the bike of the year and MXA hated it, and was not afraid to say so.
MXA also never took advertising money from Tobacco or Alcohol manufacturers. I always thought that was strange, but admired them for doing so.
What does it matter if someone was a "Factory Rider" concerning testing bikes / products? Are you racing a National? I seriously doubt it. They are so fast their likes have very little in common with me, the local guy. Their opinion may or may not be of any use to me.
Hint: Sand bagging in the 125cc/Lites 250 regional supercross series for ten years may or may not be a plus when it comes to being a test rider.
I believe that at some point in time he got sick of moto fans. Look at the threads on Vital and imagine being immersed in that 24/7. He basically doesn't give a crap as he flies around in his planes and enjoys his place in the upper echelon of SoCal motocross. The dude has a PhD and a bit of an elitist attitude. What does he really owe anybody other than his work on the magazine?
