Well, Weston gained a fan in me Saturday night for handling business like a man. He lost me as a fan today for apologizing like a bitch for being a man. He was a little weak at A1, if it were me, Friese wouldn't have gotten back on his bike, now I know that he was weak because he's just a bitch like Friese.

How does he plan on repairing the damage that he has caused the sport? Many major news outlets covered a supercross story because of him. Tens of thousands (if not more) people saw the clip who had never seen Supercross before. These people will forever know about this sport because of him. How can a consequential mistake such as this ever be remedied???

How does Weston expect me to explain this to my kids??

Some of us realize there was possibly a few hundred grand riding on an apology/statement/pr. At least he left Friese out of it. Laughing

You can explain to your kids that taking up for yourself is part of being a man. Yes, it was unprofessional, but forget the Supercross, forget the fans/media, as a man, it is expected of you to take up for yourself. Peick was taken out by the same punk twice and he decided to retaliate. You can "Monday morning quarterback" the situation all day long, but in that very moment, he retaliated how a grown man should.

You can also tell your son that there is a time and place to defend yourself and I'm sorry, but national tv isn't one of them .

He should have filed a complaint, what good would come out of punching somebody with a helmet on? A grown man as you say should have restraint and not be retaliatory from the get go. I should note I am not siding with either, I just think your logic is wrong for defending it. He took himself out of any chance for a championship by punching him. The big picture is important, had to know fighting would result in punishment.

I've been rooting for him for a couple years now, and This does not affect my opinion. That "apology" is a little weak. I'd like it more if he said something like.. "I'm sorry for punching Mr friese in the head with his helmet on. I'll be sure to let him know that face to face at round 3, and discuss some ways we can both avoid that outcome from occurring again"
It takes a man to apologize. Something I doubt you'd do. Weston just gained my respect as well as others.

I was more or less thinking letting this prick pay what his sponsor pay him to say, so Weston can really say how he feels towards the lad. Weston isn't a privateer anymore gentlemen, he must be a professional, and think of the chirren that look up to em! Y'all wanna talk shit about Weston being professional? Pay his Fuckin salary, make sponsors happy, then let me know how you feel. Good on you Weston for mannin up!

Or you're actually an adult and realize that losing your temper and pounding on the back of someone's helmet and getting yourself suspended isn't really standing up for yourself and you didn't win or accomplish shit. Weston's apology indicates he, or somebody who has his interests at heart, recognizes that.

And by the way, he didn't apologize to VF who doesn't have one coming.

No offense triple but that's not his job to teach your kids wrong from right. That lands on you. As far as the image it casts. Who cares what people who didn't know about the sport then seen that and didn't like it think. They weren't coming to a race to start with. I bet it will draw in more than it will turn away. Our image as a whole is all over the place. There is all walks of life good and bad that ride and race. No different that anything else.

Weston Peick is just just a guy that lost his shit. Ever lose yours ever? I have and I'm sure most of us here have at some point. Try this. Sit your kids down and explain to them the prior events that lead up to this. It goes further back than last Saturday so make sure to include their complete history on the track. Then explain how Weston made a bad choice and that's not how you handle yourself(I thought it was awesome and apparently so did every one in the pits that night) in that kind of a situation. Make sure to point out how Vince Is a dirty rider that has pulled that kind of crap on just about everybody and while he technically isn't breaking any rules he is still ruining their race and could possibly really hurt someone in doing so. That's one way Weston may or may not expect you to explain that to your kids.

I'll drive up for that as well. cdm806, really? You feel you need to be a keyboard tough guy. I think Weston is doing what he needs to, he's taking responsibility for his part. Let's see if Friese steps up. Good job Weston!

Same way I explain it to my eight year old when two hockey players drop the gloves and fight. If you or your team mate has been seriously wronged by a player on the other team, it's is ok to "throw down" with the offending opposing player. Win or lose, you will get respect on the ice and from your team mates.

However, I told him that I did not to see him fighting before body checking is allowed. I would make an exception for retaliation on any stick action (butt end, spear) at any age. I also told him not to fight anyone with a cage or shield/helmet combo as he would just be hurting his hands.

I understand there are different rules for different sports, but fighting is still part of hockey up here. Would rather have him fight then use his stick as a weapon.

yea, that's great ! WP will get the loudest cheers and maybe a few thousand of those non mx fans who viewed the beating video on youtube will also buy tickets and help fill the stands, and those type fans will demand more fighting on the track so they won't get bored just "watching the racing" .... and who knows maybe we can eventually reach the "roller-ball" status for our sport. I'm stoked !

The excuse of "losing his shit" doesn't fly when you're a professional. If I were to "lose my shit" and get into a physical altercation where I was the one to throw the first punch, I'd fully expect to be in the Chief's office turning in my gear. And yes, people instigate frequently at work. You simply let it go. That's what a professional does.

Peick acted like a child throwing a temper tantrum. It's brought eyes to the sport, and not in a good way. For the "fans" that will watch now because they saw a clip of a fight, it may very well have cost us some potential sponsors. It's not just "bros" who watch the clips. It's decision makers at companies. And the "bro" who now watches isn't a long term fan of the sport, or even one who brings money into it the damage is greater than the gains made.

The apology was the right thing to do, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone behind the scenes pushed to make it happen.

There is many absurd comments made here. For everyone commenting on how Weston or anyone else in a similar situation should control their emotions a little better, I say you don't honestly live in the real world. He was taken out twice by the same punk. Yes he should have handled it better. To say that everyone can control that emotion at that instant is totally rediculous. If the people that comment how they could control these emotions truly can, let me suggest this. You are probably in the minority.

As far as teaching your kids. More than likely you will teach them the same things Weston's parents taught him. I could get really carried away here with this politically correct world we suddenly woke up in, but I will limit ti to this.

What do you teach your kids when they are playing junior sports and receiving participation trophie, which leads them to believe they've come away as winners? What are your kids going to think when they get into school sports, any competitive situation and later in life a job where they actually have to compete and earn their playing time or promotion?

This false senseibility we're creating is the same thing imo. To think that all people will maintain their composure in such situations is crazy. IT AIN'T GOING TO HAPPEN, no matter how much preaching goes on. Right or wrong, we all react when emotions are high. He apologized publicly and will probably never react that way again, at least where everyone can see it.

Part of the crime in this situation is that Freise wasn't reprimanded in some way for being a punk and taking him out. Not once, but twice.

Have a good day all you perfect, judgemental people with complete control of you emotions!

Have we had an apology from Vince Friese yet, the instigator of this whole decacle?

Friese needs to explain why he always seems to ride dirty, make contact with other riders and cause crashes.

Kudos to Weston for stepping up, admitting he lost it and apologising! Friese should do the same!

What does this have to do with political correctness and participation trophies? Weston was the loser in this as he was fined, suspended and didn't receive any points for the race. Do I understand his actions? Yes, we all are capable of losing our shit but that doesn't make it the smart response.

I teach my kids that if someone is playing dirty then it is ok to play that way back. But if you are going to play their game, you play it better and win. Just like if someone incites you to lose your shit at work and your other examples... you are the ultimate loser, they are the winner. In this situation, Weston was the loser. He let Freise control his emotions and while Weston might have won that little battle, Freise won that war. He got Weston fined and suspended while he gets to race again next week.

In this world there are Michael's, Sonny's and Fredo's. I prefer to raise my kids to be Michael's...

Don't take this the wrong way...but if you think that a professional athlete needs to 'explain' anything to your kids, you're out of your mind.

It's your job as a parent to explain to your kids about this situation. The joy of being a parent is to be able to spin this in anyway you think will lead to them being better human beings. Some parents will say that this is what you should do if you are bullied and pushed around. Others will say that you should never strike another person. It takes all kinds to make the world go round...
