After getting tired of chasing gremlins on my 2014 yz250f after the big bore, I got pissed off and went back to a two stroke. The new 250x is amazing. Power is smoother and longer than a regular yz250. Suspension from the factory is almost perfect. Yamaha knocked it out of the park with this one.

i race mx but im old i bought a 16 yz 250,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then i rode one of those, that thing has great old guy mx track power was pretty soft (or im fairly fat) its a great all around bike, and yes im going to say it and some orange bleeding wingnut is going to cry
its a better all around do everything bike than a KTM xc i have a couple buddies with xcs and you either set them up for woods or track , and they are great but you cant go from the trail rite to the track like you can on the yamaha

Yep. I'll never ride anything but Yamaha suspension. I had a regular yz250 smoker before my 250f and I could never get the motor just right, either too much or not enough. This motor is absolutely perfect. Not gonna touch it. I race hare scrambles, enduros and GPs. Only practice moto and never have to touch the suspension.

Have to agree with you on the XC comparison, The Xc"s have very finicky jetting & the forks are brutal. I miss having that Yz suspension. I"m glad Yamaha finally woke up & is offering this bike, but what the hell took so long!

Congrats on the new blue bike, looks great! I ride at Southfork every now and then. I'm planning on going there this Sunday to take advantage of the 60+ degree day in December if anyone else will be there.

Finally, somebody understands the proper definition of "speaking with your wallet"!

Buying a 4-stroke does not qualify as speaking with your wallet! This phrase was originally coined by Vital Members for folks who were supporting the 2-stroke movement by buying a new 2-stroke.

Awesome purchase! I'm considering doing the same, I need a new YZ and that one looks like an awful lot of fun! Kickstand means I don't have to find a fencepost whenever I want to get off!

Looking forward to hearing more man!!

I think people didnt understand the smoother power comment. It makes just as much power as my old yz smoker did, just lays it down to the ground a lot smoother than the previous model did. The service manual for this bike is about half the size of the one for my 2014 yz250f......makes me smile just thinking about it. No more valves, no more fuel injection, no more mapping, no more freaking out about dropping a valve while 5th pinned across a field section. I did love my 250f (270), but I put 130 hrs on the bike in a year and don't have the extra time during the week to keep it maintained properly. I almost want to blow the two stroke up just so I can remember how easy these things are to work on....


and as far as the kickstand goes, already removed it and have it sold to a guy for his regular yz250 for $150 bucks....gotta love it

As somebody who rides a KTM XC, I can say you're wrong. I adjust the clickers a few clicks, and turn the steering damper 1 click between moto and trails.

OP awesome bike! You gonna keep the thumper or is it gone like yesterday's milk?

Waiting on a new stator and new plastic and its gone like donkey kong. Its kind of a shame too because I only have 4 hours on the fresh 270 kit. All my racing buddies already raped it for parts (skid plate, rad guards, rekluse, extra wheelset, tuner). So its gonna be sold as an mx 270F.

After riding 450's for so long I bought a 300 xc for off road .Had so much fun on that sold my yz 450 and bought a 16' yz 250 just had "slipdog" do the suspension, flywheel and I geared it now ready to rip just waiting for the storm to come and go. I was going to get the yz x but 300 xc is a bad dude off road and imo hard to replace. Congrats !

I'd ride the 250x. its got a lot of bottom like a 300 but no vibrations and revs a lot quicker....plus its got kyb sss, enough said! Which way did you go with the gearing on your yz250?

stock was 14/50 I went to a 51 going to see how that is.. I only rode for about 15 minutes before I gave it to slipdog to get the suspension set up .. Cant wait to ride it Smile Im sure the x is sweet its damn near the same thing ill be curious to hear what the guy says above about swapping the cdi.. The yz power is either on or off stock so with the fww and gearing it should pick up faster in 3rd for me.. If its not how I want it I may try the eric gore 295 kit but man stock runs so good id hate to mess with big bores and jetting.

The 250x has a different base gasket, pipe, power valve. It's a bunch of crap. No flywheel weight added though. I messed with my regular 250 forever and couldn't get it right
