KX150-AF 2016

Edited Date/Time 5/27/2016 10:07am
Hi, thought I could share my new build with you.

This will be a version 2 of my earlier build:

Here I have used a KX250F 2010 frame, 2013 subframe. I've had the bike like this for 2 years and ben planning an update for a while.... I'm not a big fan of the extra length welded to the rails so I had new rails bent for the new frame.

Last race of the year I had this happend:

So now I will have the engine rebuilt with some changes from last year.

Starting to work with the new frame I got, KX250F 2014

And here is the finished frame

Now I'll start to assembly it. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Regards, Jimmy

Today I got the Ti footpegs in place

Started to have a look at the rear brake lever as well, but I'm waiting for a silver anodized tip for it.

Next I will munt the Xtrig triple clamps, but I'm waiting for new bearings for it. As soon as I get them I should be able to mount the whole front end!

You said it's a 150, so bored or stroked? Did you port it?

Running 58mm bore so its actually a 144cc.

Ported mid-top by PBR racing here in Sweden, Vertex KTM flat head piston, VHM head with 13.40cc insert, V-force 2 reeds and a Keihin 38mm PWK airstryker carb. HGS 144 exhaust.

New for next year will be a VHM high inertia crank balanced with the heavier piston.

Thanks for the comments! I'll try to keep you updated. Here comes a small one

Wheels will be stock KX250F. The goal is to get it together below 90kg and getting wheels that are lighter than stock gets really expensive.

I'm not a big fan of the feel of the stock floating brake disc in the front so I mounted a Braking disc that is a lot lighter as well.

More to come...

Really nice work!

You can lace up a 1.85 X 19 rear rim and run the lighter tires intended for a 125 (the smaller profile tires). Also, you can turn down your Hubs like they do at TCR. Stock spokes & nipples are pretty damn light already.

Since its a 125, you can probably have the rear brake rotor drilled a little more and lighten it up, too. You can remove 30-50% of your brake pad material for weight savings, too. 125s usually require a lot less rear brake force.

Guts Racing seat foam is available in "light-weight", too.

Thanks! The rear wheel already is 1.85.

In front I run Pirelli MX32 3640g... 200 grams lighter than Dunlop MX51 (3840)

Rear 100/90 19" Pirelli 4815g, vs Dunlop 5068g

For seat I been looking at the Think Technology foam that should save 660g(!!!) over stock. Thats a huge win high up on the bike.

MotionPro Lite rim lock as well to reduce weight?

I'm surprised people don't make their own light weight seats. Would imagine it'd be a good bit cheaper.

The quality and craftsmanship are amazing but what's up with the whole weight saving thing. Seriously? Sorry guys but your wasting your time. Shaving off grams from your brake pads...lol. Your bike 2 pounds lighter isn't gonna change a thing. I'll fill your tires with lead and you won't know the difference. Better order that 8000$ Ti bolt and axle kit and only fill your gas tank 1/8тh full. 8 pounds a gallon! Yikes

Seriously? Shave you brake pads to save weight? Is this a sideshow?
If the op only goal is to spend 30,000$ just to see if he can build a 90kg bike then awesome have a blast. If he doing this because he thinks he gonna notice it on the track then he gonna be sad.
Im not trying to pick on just you. I see factory mechanics drilling washers to save 1 gram off a bike. It's so rediculous. There is NO WAY anyone is noticing a gram, or an even a few ounce. The first piece of dirt that sticks to your fender and your weight savings are all over.
To all the boneheads that are gonna tell me " of course I notice the weight." It must kill you to run a new tire huh? Going from a nice light worn out carcass to a fresh knob!
If someone else has a buddy claiming he notices his bike being lighter here's the best way to call bullshit. TOP OFF HIS GAS TANK. Gas is approx 8 pounds a gallon so he will be a fish out of water when he gets a fill up.

I think the craftsmanship and quality is amazing I just don't see the point of some of the work

Race gas weighs in at about 6.0-6.4 lbs a gallon. Water weighs 8

"I just don't see the point of some of the work".....pushing the boundaries? Seeing what is possible?

It bugs me somewhat when people chime in with "what's the point". If someone has a project/idea of doing something, then more power to them. If you don't see the point in what someone is doing, then why say anything? Keep it to yourself and let them happily carry on.
