Kit suspension is only in if you have a KTM. Every KTM thread on here is full of KTM guys talking about how they spent a grand more on there euro bike and 3 grand more on the suspension for there euro bike just to make it as good as the factory jap bikes. They all seem to be proud of it too Smile

I think also with WP just recently making their A Kit more available to the public and now being able to work on bikes other than ktm's is big. Don't forget either that the WP stuff is much more affordable at about $3000 brand new which is less than half of the older school A kit.

$3000 is just for the forks.

Have you ever noticed how people with clapped junk are quick to say something derogatory about someone's tricked out bike, or truck, or RV... and you never, ever see someone with a nice bike, truck, or RV walking around the pits saying shit about someone's clapped bike, and rusted out truck?

Imagine if the roles were reversed. Usually, it's the guy with all the nice stuff who is lending tools and spare parts to the guys with the clapped out shit who are making fun of the vet behind his back.

It's a pretty one-dimensional argument centered around jealousy.
Yes I have noticed. And yes it's always pure jealousy.

Team Green, do you have a shock for a 15 Honda 450? I have Wp cone valve forks now and want to upgrade the shock now. I am thinking the new Wp Trax , but also have Ohlina and Showa as an option. Been waiting on feedback from ML52 on the Wp stuff to help with decision

Funny how any suspension shop in the country can tune suspension better than the manufacturer's own engineers. Even more amazing, they're able to do so just by having the rider check off a few boxes on a form.

Said manufacture engineers have to hit a goal that will work decently for say 5000 different riders, while an independent shop is doing it for one person.

I want some so bad and stare at them online for sale. I have a few factors that are delaying my purchase. One is that I really like my 15 crf but I know a better bike is on the way. Another is that I just went back to springs and my first ride on them is this weekend but I think I'm going to be happy. So I believe I would want the spring A kit rather than taking a chance on the air again and want to study a bit more on the different types of a kit when buying used. I will have some. My plan is to try these springs off a 12' 250f that will be soft because they are sprung for a lighter rider and I got happy and bolted then on instead of sending them out. Then I'm going to try my 05 forks that I loved. I have the 05 and a crf80 to sell for the a kit fund and my bass boat better be on its best behavior or clippy clippy.

And amazingly the shop can "nail it" by using the following information:

210lb Vet rider
Intermediate speed
Intermediate track conditions

That'll be $700.

True, but at least it's still a two stroke.

I think also it's not about having the best or showing everyone how much money you can spend to be better than anyone else. If I have the money and can buy something that makes one of the only things in life that makes me happy, even happier and more comfortable, why not? This is one scenario where money can buy happiness. If I'm more comfortable and confident on my bike because of reasonable priced set of forks I'll buy them all day long. And I don't care if I ever win a race on them because I'm having fun, that's all I care about.

Five years ago when I got back into riding I would have never thought that I would spend $2500 on a set of forks. I was buying used bikes for $2000 because that's what I could afford. Five years later I have the opportunity to buy things that I've always wanted and it's that reason I work extra hard day in and day out.

I agree that maybe it is a trend but with the bikes all being so good right now the only real separation between the manufactures is the suspension.

Why is that funny? You realize riders come in all different sizes, riding styles, terrain, etc? You don't check off any boxes when you buy the bike.

It's funny when people almost get butthurt when someone buys an new bike and invests 5-6 grand in parts.

A brand new race bike for 14-15k is nothing. Do you realize that our sport is one, if not the cheapest form of motorsport racing.

I'll stick to full Ohlins set up, does that count as 'kit'?
I would say so, it didn't come stock and it is an upgraded replacement

I think you are hearing about kit suspension more and it is becoming popular because ohlins, wp, and used showa kit stuff is not completely stupid expensive. 10 years ago the only kit suspension i remember being advertised was through pro circuit. Still not seeing too many weekend warriors with brand new 10k dollar suspension, but investing 4 or 5k upfront is doable

There is no 'invests' in mx.

There is 'I can justify spending $ on this bike and parts that depreciate ridiculously fast because it's something I enjoy and (hopefully) can afford'.

Nothing wrong with kit suspension or other bling if you can afford it. If you're cutting back on retirement savings or your kids college fund to pay for it, that's a poor choice.

Kit suspension is an investment. I have never bought kit suspension but i'm planning to do that when i upgrade to an 2016 bike.

I'm happy to pay 3000-4000€ for Öhlins TTX or WP CV/trax suspension and sell it for roughly the same when i change bikes. I could spend 600-800€ on a revalve on the stock suspension but i wont get any more money for my revalved stock suspension.

I've never even ridden a bike with kit suspension, but I certainly noticed when I started getting "fast" that a revalve and spring change was quite different than stock. It became almost necessary from a safety standpoint. I'd like to ride a kit suspension setup to see how much better (if any) that scenario is, however I can't come close to affording it any time soon.
If I had enough coin though, I'd do it.

I got to ride a friends Yamaha YZF 450 2012 with Öhlins TTX. I have since that day planned on getting Öhlins or WP kit suspension!

Kit suspension could be an investment if you plan on putting it on multiple bikes. I know the forks for Honda will work from 02 on up. Change the shock body and clevis get a couple more bike out of it. So if a persons revalved and springs every bike and buys the same brand you could save money in the long run. This could work for PC stuff on anything with a lug and shock body change for multiple bikes.
