Yeah I know "Non Moto", but nobody goes to the other board.

Heard on one of Matthes' podcasts that Kawi is making a comeback in U.S. Off-road. Anybody know or heard anything about riders etc. ??

By "off-road", do you mean "Side X Side"?

I'm curious about Matthes' comment- can you point me towards it?

Are they bringing back a two stroke for the woods guys? I can't see average joes ditching their lighter 300 EXC for a heavier KX450F.

It was in the Canadian MX review podcast. One of the Canadians said Medaglia was maybe waiting on a deal to do GNCC with Kawi cause they were "coming back big time".

First (and only) I'd heard of it, so I was just curious.

what about Off-road is non-moto?

the sx and mx guys want to give you any beef just tell them to fuck off sideways, bro.

would be good to see Kawi make another push for dominance off-road like in the 90's, but i don't see it happening. the KLX200 of old is still a great bike, very outdated but still a very capable trail bike. there were a few guys on the KLX450 on our Baja ride and they all seemed to be decent bikes as well. me though, i would rather stick my dork in a toaster than own a green bike.

That would be great to see Kawasaki back out there with an off road program!

Maybe re-releasing the KX500 for desert racers?

Not a chance of that. A wide ratio KX250/300 to compete with KTM makes more sense.

I think the 500 would sell a ton in the first two - three years

No way. 450 is a better bike in the desert, plenty fast on top speed and easier to ride everywhere else.

A lot of fast guys are switching to fast 250F's off road. I just finally got to ride a 15 yamaha 250F and I can see why. two stroke clingers, get over it. The 15 YZ250F about blew my mind..

Have you followed the Red Bull off road series overseas? If 250F's were the better bike you'd see everyone riding them. 90% of competitors are on ring dingers for a reason.

New offroad bikes on the market would be good for everyone..

Im sure the new 250F is badass.. Its also gonna be badass on your wallet about the 120hr mark.

A green 300cc 2smoke offroad race bike would be awesome

i think that extreme enduro you are talking about the two stroke dominates, GNCC racing has mostly been won by 450's, and the 250 2t's race in the lites class,

Ughh... why did that thing have to come out the year before they upgraded to the 2009 KX450F? They would've been so much better off waiting one year, then using that chassis and engine...

Russell won the last year on a 150 KTM and got 2nd his first race out on the 150. He is kicking butt this year on the 350 and 250 4t. Comes down to having fun on a bike. The 250f's and 2 strokes have it for the longer events. The 450's have it for 90 seconds till arm pump sets in for the average Joe. Anyway the more manufactures out their supporting the sport ,the better it is for consumers. Hope Mitsubishi Heavy Industries gets back into offroad racing.

450's are cool offroad.. I'm big enough and ride one and don't mind it.. most of the time..

I was just thinking about how the japs never step out f their comfort zone and build bikes of various displacements. They would be content jsut offering the 250 and 450 flavors and making minor changes every year.

Yamaha is right on the fence getting serious about offroad.. I think they have the best jap bikes on the market and seem to be the most likely to release a new ride.. Thats offroad 250F was cool, just not for me.. 350/400/450 with a 6spd and then they would have something.. Also, the YZ250 tranny was perfect just the way it was.. just needed 6th.. Even if that meant a new case.. Get over it..

Anyway... I'm going drink one more beer, wipe on 350XC for a few minutes.

They canned their off-road program to pay Villo's last contract.

I remember many , many saying that was the case - Kawi stopped their Off Road program because of the cost of RV.

I never believed it, but I read a seemingly endless stream of vitriol, directed at RV and Kawasaki over it all, amongst the Internetia.

Hell, maybe they were right, and now he's retired they have the money?

Last time Kawasaki said this they just rode converted KX-F bikes and never released an off road woods competition bike. Hopefully this time they will. The market certainly dictates this as a good idea.
The KLX 450 has not been available in the US market since 2010, except for leftovers.

Yea, I don't know what to believe right now, as they've picked up Tomac, and supposedly lost Monster. They must've picked up a good title sponsor if they are fielding a 3 rider team and an offroad team next year. Has to be someone big.
