Yeah, there is some serious glossing over of some relevant facts. Might want to wait until more stuff comes out before judgement is passed in the court if public opinion. We were there but stayed far away. The son of the deceased has been in multiple altercations on and off the track for years but his dad always stayed out of it. This isnt even near the first issue involving him at PIR this year. Sad sad deal all the way around. I am not going to get into stories on this board only to say whats being reported so far isnt quite accurate......

You get young guys out there battling every weekend and there is for sure going to be some aggressive moves out there. The two boys have had some battles on the track and I feel there has been words said after wards. But that's where it should have stopped. The second you make a charge over to some other guys pit and not only threaten people , but start throwing blows , that's when things change. Tony had always been a good guy to try and defuse things like this , and it sounded like he was trying to get this one defused when Mike hit him. Yeah Nick and Joey both are aggressive racer's , always have been , but if you truly know them off the track , they are a great family. It also doesn't help Mike's case that he punched another guy a while ago and threatened to kill another. Then Mike claims " They were the one's being bullied " ?? Sure doesn't look or sound that way. I hope the judge throws the book at him and he's sent away for a very long time , as he should be.

Jeff, you have a dog in this fight i dont. I was also there tgat night and almost every other PIR race for the last few years. I didnt see the actual fight but was watching the race that led up to it. Nicks riding goes beyond competeive aggression. He has been hauled outof PIR before in cuffs & banned for a year. I watched more than one eace this year where stuff got physical & wondered why he was allowed to continue to race there. None of this justifies what happened to Tony at all. Even people who dislike Nick ( who isnt a young kid,btw i think he is 23?) thought Tony was a great guy. I dont know Mike Taylor at all never even heard of him. I knew Joey back in the day and Tony a bit also but have stayed away from them know as drama surrounds them and want no part of it. Like I said before everyone needs to wait for the facts to come out. I personally have heard about four complelty different "eyewitness" stories....
That's cool man , and totally get your what you're saying. Always respected your views on things and this is no different. It's just a shame that this had to happen at a track , a place where all us moto heads love to go race , watch , hang out and be a part of something special. Hopefully this dark cloud will lift soon and we can put some closure on it. I'm still in a little shock over it to be honest , and I was just trying to get over something else that had affected me personally about a month ago with multiple deaths. It's been a very tough month.

They addressed it yesterday during practice too. And there was a lot of buzz about it amongst most of the riders. I heard a lot of different opinions.

What happened to good old racing where slamming people on the track was greeted at the checkers with a high five?

Of course it could still be blindsided. Whoever was recording, I assume, was not the person that was hit. Possibly an independent 3rd party to the attacker and the person that was attacked.

That said, horrible situation on all counts.

Go kart and car racing tracks are even worse around here.. Pit brawls tend to be the norm. When you recruit your pit crew you want a couple big tough sons of bitches even if they can't wrench well.
Your right about that I went to bowman grey stadium one night there where fighting in the stands over something that happened on the track ,and then the pit crews and drivers where going at it , they must bring 2-3 buses there for all the arrested people there per event

I feel you RE: don't know what it could be.

Related story: I attended a Hispanic funeral for a baby who had died of SIDS and it was THE saddest deal in my life. Coffin looked like a shoe box and emotions as they would be at a funeral for a baby. Tough day. I stood there listenng to the priest talk in Spansih (I don't speak it) and when we got to the car I asked my girlfriend (it was her nephew's funeral} "was the priest saying it isn't up to us to ask why these things happen and that we shouldn't expect to understand them?" and she said "YES...how did you know that?" Just caught the vibe I told her.

My spiritual mentor in the 80s said that given enough time we will be able to view our experiences with the perspective us to understand why somethings happen.

On the other hand my good friends that I stay with in Laguna Hills CA lost a family friend who had JUST graduated from nursing school who was coming home from graduation with another young lady who had also graduated when they were run into by a drunk 22 year old Marine.

There is sometimes simply no understanding why shit happens.

The end result is still that this guy punched a man and killed him. He should be held accountable for his actions. People need to learn that they cannot go around taking things into their own hands by being violent.

I recently had an altercation with Nick (the trip I made up and stayed with Jeff).

We were at mountain view and I made an aggressive last lap pass. Granted none of us went down or off the track (rubbin's racing right?). Afterwards, I followed him to his truck to say sorry, and that I didnt mean to hit him hard.

He TOTALLY flipped out, threw his bike on the ground, and charged at me throwing punches w/out even discussing. His dad did nothing and it took many people to run over and calm him down. I have never seen anyone so mad.

Many other people told me "yeah, they're hot heads" so you start to see, sometimes Nick wasnt the nicest on and off the track. And racing for years and years, you can always spot that family that bullies and thinks they own the race...

That being said, there is NO excuse or justification to what happened. I am shocked at what happened and my condolences are with the family.

Oh man , this isn't helping my side here. Damn Ryan , you never told me this happened. I hadn't heard anything from anyone until now. Wish you would of told me and I would of had a talk with Nick myself. I'm sorry that happened. I know Nick's temper gets the best of him , which is a shame , because when he isn't going crazy he's a really nice and good kid. I know you're a good dude too man , so this bums me out to even hear it.

Btw , shoot me a text or give me a call and lets hook up and do some riding soon. Take care brother.

It's really sad how people behave now days! So much hate and people are quick to resort to violence to resolve disputes. The moral decay amazes me.

A life is lost, a father....a loved one from a family is gone for ever, a couple of kids who will no doubt suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for a long time. For what? A on-track incident?

We have it here in SA. A hard block pass ends up in a major brawl in the pits.

I think its high time that harsher laws are put in place to protect family members, crews, riders and spectators....we need to protect ourselves from ourselves. A minor dispute can and often will boil over into a full on fight and as we know, people can die.

Is it time for track owners and race promoters to recruit a platoon of Bouncers to prevent racers and families from beating the shit out of each other??? I think yes! A added cost on race entries will not be good but if a few teeth and a life are saved then well worth it.

Really sad and sincere condolences to the friends and family....and huge strength to the kids who will no doubt be suffering the most.

The promoter running the track sets the tone for what is acceptable. They have to rule with an iron fist, otherwise you are trusting the good nature of those that are racing and attending the race.

What the actuel fuck?!?! It's a fucking motocross race
Right, an absolutely meaningless race.
I saw in another FB post the assholes kid was slamming the other kid in the second moto. He let him go and when the moto ended they went back to the pits. Asshole and his kid rushed over and started shit. The old guy was trying to defuse but asshole went off anyway.
Fuck him. There is no place in society for people like that. People that want to ride and fight should get a Harley and join a biker gang.

There was a thread last week about why moto will remain small. A link to this thread would certainly be one reason. Such a sad deal all around.

I was parked right next to him, was in that moto with you guys. It was out of control for sure. Didn't know what was going on exactly, but glad it seemed to go away. They let pros and intermediates on same start, int. wants to beat pros I understand, but maybe int. should move up then.

Fucking Exactly! A promoters job just begins with building a good track. There are unfortunately a lot of dumb asses that participate in moto and do require oversight.

wow man what a tragic deal... i don't know how i had missed this before, but never something you even think about while at the races. i've witnessed some guys getting into a scrap because of racing before but it's to be expected with all that adrenaline sometimes after a heated battle or harsh contact. but this is something i've never expected to hear, from a local motocross of all places.

now two young men are without their father's because of this... that's about as sad as it gets. my best thoughts out to all those families/friends/racers involved
