They report on social/political issues that have nothing to do with sports. They are shoving their agendas into almost every sports center. Espn's last yr of reporting... wife/kid beaters, murder trial, gay guy who sucks, transgender with zero pro sports skills wins a sports award for courage, deflategate, murder trial, "I am just here so I don't get fined", racist la clippers owner, lawsuits, wnba and Tim Tebow! All that shit and they don't have time to show some mx/sx highlights.

Cutting their ties with NASCAR is helping them either.
FI2T put it more eloquently. There's only so much sociopolitical garb a man can handle.

Put it this way.

MTV is to music what ESPN is to sports.

Cable is such a waste of money. 99% of the programming is just the same recycled reality TV shows. I used to love NatGeo but now it's non stop repeats of Alaskan wilderness shows. Used to love sportscenter as a kid but now I hate it. To me it's just not worth the money

Fuck that fucking channel.

I ditched cable/satellite my last move earlier this year and now only have the free HD channels with the digital bunny ears and Apple TV to stream. Best decision ever because with cable/satellite I was paying for 98% channels I never watched.

I did see a promo for the ESPYs on ABC announcing Jenner getting the courage award. How about giving it to someone who did something courageous in a sport!? Announcing to the world that s/he would prefer to pee sitting down is not courageous in a sport.

Lauren Hill should win that award.

While I don't care for the personalities there are a few things I do like. I do like watching the poker sometimes. The girls softball is cool too. The 30 for 30 shows are good. The only show I watch with the personalities is Pardon The Interruption.

I do agree it's stupid to put a radio show on TV.

He’s probably talking about the one that recently killed a woman with his Escalade and is blowing it off like a petty nuisance. Seems like a real stand up person deserving of a courage award for sure. Way to go ESPN.

Not sure if my current cable package even has ESPN in it as I can't remember even looking for ESPN for the past twenty years. What little moto they had went to ESPN2 but that went away quick as well.

Getting harder and harder to even want cable at all these days. The only thing that keeps me hanging on is the hopes of good moto coverage.
The TV packagers sure do make it more enticing to get rid of the TV package and watch everything online. MOTO was the only reason I went with the U400 package and now that the races are archived online really quick, I'm debating dropping my package down to the U200. For every channel you want, there are 25 infomercial channels. WTF? I don't want to pay for those channels.

Oh believe me, i'm with you. It's ridiculous that he/she/whatever-is-PC to call (it) gets the award. Just pointing out that (it) was a helluva an athlete and did have sports skills. That is all.

I haven't watched ESPN in years. I didn't even realize it until this thread came up. I only keep cable to watch moto, but with weird times, channel changes it is getting more difficult. Maybe time for a change.

The only reason I have ESPN is because it's part of the most basic cable bundle. and the only reason I even have cable is because Verizon charges you the same price whether you want just internet or internet + basic cable.

In about 5-10 years when internet starts transitioning into a free service from Google, Facebook, etc, cable will be dead.

I would love to do that but like I said, Verizon will raise the price of its internet if you get rid of cable. And where I live they have a monopoly on ISPs so we all just bend over and pay for it.

In a way ESPN is going the way of MTV, started with a great product and turn into the National Enquire. Why can't stations just report the news, I really don't want their opinion of the news. Tired of the media trying to tell me what to think and how to feel. Just a sign of the times with all the other BS.
What, the poker tournaments and hot dog eating contests weren't real sports?

ESPN suffered in hiring gen X frat boys as producers as opposed to real sports guys, you reap what you sow - Garbage in, garbage out...

It's pretty funny. I actually saw a skit on TV the other day where they stopped random people on the street and asked if it was more likely Bruce would win a gold medal in the Olympics or become a woman. It was pretty apparent most people have forgotten he was a gold medalist

That is sad and funny. I really had no idea. To each their own on all these social issues for me. That said Espn has evolved and not in a way in my opinion the vast majority of sports fans care about.

I haven't had cable in many years. If I want to watch something, I either wait, or I go to the bar/ a friends house.

If I want to sit on the couch and do nothing, I actually like watching NASA TV. It is free and they always have something that blows my mind. You can tell it is catered to young adults, but the production is really well done.

I hear you, the way you said it just left a nice transition into the whole vehicular killing thing. I think we have the same beliefs on his/her/it's historical achievments and current spectical.

Jenner may have gone down a weird path but his scores in the decathlons are impressive. He is still in the top 100 all time.

As for ESPN, they can just go away. The only reason that they have the ratings is that they are on 10 TV's in every bar in America 24/7. I don't even know sports fanatics that watch that crap anymore.

FI2T put it more eloquently. There's only so much sociopolitical garb a man can handle.

Put it this way.

MTV is to music what ESPN is to sports.
I was wondering if the hot button topics that you addressed would be mentioned and how the discussion would flow concerning them. I don't even bother to see what's on their channels anymore...it's all pure garbage, except NHRA Drag Racing. I can catch all the sports news and Deflategate nonstop on my car radio. I laughed like hell when I read your post. I have Verizon too, it's a package with phone, internet , and TV...the way their rates are structured it's foolish to not get the package. They added MavTV HD this year so I finally have all the moto channels including the GPs, I'll watch Fox News from time to time. Verizon dropped The Weather Channel using the excuse that they want to be paid like an entertainment channel now rather than an info channel, and they're protecting us consumers from gratuitous money grabs from these channels. They can keep ESPN, but I wouldn't mind having TWC back.
