Geico sponsors the series as well, does that mean all the riders and all of the vehicles in the pits must be insured by them?
Foremost Insurance supported Nik Wey for several years recently.

Cr22 is being a cry baby.

Don't fool yourselves. This is a calculated decision by 360Fly and Chad. Gorilla marketing at its best. If Chad was allowed to use it - there would be no noise. They understood the GoPro contract and planned to fight it. This has given 360fly more exposure. How many of you checked out there website already. $500K is cheap for all the hits they are getting now.

Of course this is just my opinion.
Probably nail on the head, Spat.

Michael Jordan used to get fined for wearing Air Jordans, as they were against the NBA uniform code....but said fuck it and wore them anyway and Nike paid his nightly fine. He was still allowed to wear them however. NBC should allow riders to wear whatever the fuck they want and just fine the riders that violate a uniform code. I'm sure 360 would gladly pay a weekly fine if Chad could at least run the camera. This sport should look to emulate the big three (MLB, NBA, NFL) in certain areas.
I agree, fine him if he still wants use it, Michael Jordan ,was fined $5000 a game... He got a half million to pay fine...

Losing out on 500k is a whimsical reason to call it quits? Sure buddy.
How much money is making from all his other sponsors that he's going to hang to dry? I'm not a fan of the guy. He can still advertise for the company. He can still do promotions for the company. I get that it sucks that he can't use the camera in competition, but dude, he's got plenty of other sponsors that are depending on him and he's going to throw in the towel for that? Please.

Surely Reed KNEW of the GoPro sponsorship and rule (not as though it has just come out) prior to his 360 contract...if so then a) he should stop threatening people that he wont race and b) if he didnt then that poor team management and c) if this is all a cunning marketing ploy, then kudos to him its worked

Funny how Chad gets accused of being a drama queen when we're talking about $500,000. If he's struggling with his form what incentive is there to stay risking his neck each weekend if it's not financial. He's got a family to bring up I think he can justifiably walk.

LMFAO, what's next? Perhaps he can cut corners to have better finishes, he has family to bring up, he could use some prize money.
Or he could just take Adderall.

I'm not sure you read the number right...$500,000. Half a million. More than half the field makes in a year. That could mean the difference between turning a profit with his team or ending the year in the red.

Call me crazy, but I doubt that he would have threatened that during supercross. I'm a chad fan, but he's making it more difficult to be a fan all the time.

I can't believe he hasn't seized an opportunity for a perfect fit with an Outback Steakhouse sponsorship whether he likes them as a franchise or not.

Besides the obvious the "no rules" slogan seems like a good fit as well.

Reeds insulting his main sponsor Discount tires, he's willing to walk away because of a dispute with a new sponsor, that's going to shaft his main sponsor Discount tires. Priceless

Reed just needed more attention than finishing 15th is getting him.

Seriously - No. Although it might seem like this. And it might seem like Chad is acting like a self focused kid. But No.

Chad is a great rider and just as good a business man. And this is all about business, and publicity. Like "Spat24" said, Chad is just generating publicity and awareness for his sponsor. If he chooses to miss a race, that will only generate more publicity.... I can just see the headline and the stories.... "Discount Tire 22 Rider Chad Reed pulls out of Lucas Oil National MX over 360 Camera rights...."
Did they know about this before signing? Who knows. Does it matter? Probably not.

But bottom line is, he has brought a new sponsor to the sport, the sport now needs to re-think its contract with Gopro next time around ( the issue has been cracked open creating leverage and pressure for a different/better deal next time), riders will be better off (more likely anyway) and his sponsors win.

Let me get this straight, GoPro has a massive contract and the sport has to re-think its contract with GoPro because Chad threatens not to race because of his contract with 360??? Can you think of anything crazier?

15th was good enough for Fox360 to pay him half a mil.

Exactly and he is the FIRST guy to complain about the industry not holding up their end of the contracts!!! Yet when Yamaha told him to wear blues clothes he wouldn't or how many dealer signings did he miss but were in his contract to attend?

I like Reed as a racer and all, but as someone else stated, he probably should have gotten his ducks in a row before he signed the contract. What do I know, though... im just a dude on the internet.

The GoPro contract is with NBC/AlliSports, not MX Sports. They use the revenue to produce the TV shows, just like in supercross. GoPro basically invented the space -- personal action cam -- and they have had an exclusive deal for on-track use for several years (and that's not anti-trust, desktop lawyers). The first I personally heard of Chad's situation was on Friday afternoon when he texted me. I hope we can work this out to keep him in the series.

MX Sports
Can't they find a way around the small letters of the contract? For example putting the camera on the bike instead of the helmet (or something else)?

Is Chad allowed to run the Fly 360 logo on his bike?

Apparently they are still barking up the wrong tree.

Makes you wonder if they really don't know where the problem stems from or are just looking for some major attention from the issue like many have suggested in here.

I hope Reed gets paid his 500K to help offset his expenses and if he does without being able to run the camera at the races it would be an even bigger score for him.

Has anyone actually posted the section in the rule book that states this, or the section on the entry form that prohibits the use of any other helmet camera.
The riders and teams certainly should have a say in some of these exclusive sponsor decisions.

It was more of a, "It's a 360 Fly" not a "Fox 360". Smile

And you are allowed to substitute letters as well as long as both products are moto related.
