MTF or South of the Border?

I'm asking this for a friend. He wants to send his son to a training facility for a week.
The boy is a 14 year old fairly fast C rider. Very dedicated to mx.
His Dad was looking at these 2 places. Where will he get the most bang for the buck?

Any opinions?

If I was looking for best bang for my buck I would go to South of the Border. Especially if he's looking for a week of training. If I was going after "money is no object" then I'd go to GPF.

I've been to an MTF week camp, and lived at the border, of course it was under jimmy weinert then and im sure is much different now. MTF has the name and a killer facility. If he was looking at staying for a few months I'd say the border for sure but a week camp I think the whole MTF experience is a great week.

Weinert Training Facility is a good bang for the buck and you get trained by the Jammer himself. Good time.

Ride the local tracks and send the kid camping with the Boy Scouts. He'll learn knots and compass reading and how to kill animals with his bare hands for food. Might come in handy if he takes up desert riding.

ive been to mtf , other places may be cheaper, but colleen and staff are the best.top notch facility. one of the best expierences of my life!

MTF definitely lives up to making a dedicated rider a fast one as well. If the rider isn't committed then it doesn't matter where you go.

My two 15 y/o boys went to SOB for a week this past summer. The tracks were great, the training was excellent and they had a good time. They didn't want to go to a certain other facility in Georgia because all they heard from friends that had gone there is you spend a week getting yelled at. While the purpose was to train and get faster, the big picture view is that they are doing it to have fun, and if it's not enjoyable then why bother.

My 2 cents.

My son went to SOB when Jimmy Weinert was running it and he liked it. He said the training was good the riding was awesome and he had more fun with Jimmy then if he were to go with his friends.

SOB is now run by new people and I hear its really good. The new manager is a Vital member and his kid is one of the top amateur's in the country.

MTF ,The name speaks for its self but I have also been told by many that they really push kids beyond their ability. I dont agree with that.

Matt Walker, I have never heard anything negative.

South of the border is awsome. Can't speak for any other facilities but SOBMX really does a great job.
I have done 2 weeks down there and will do another 2 soon.

Build a turn track near your house and ride everyday.

But if I had to choose, I would go SOB.

Mr. Burkeen is in charge of SOB and does a really good job with it. Don't know much about MTF except what I've seen on videos and through print. Can't argue with the number of top riders that attended MTF, and SOB has some good ones too(Cooper Webb trains there some) but if were my kids I'd go with SOB.

X2, Tommy Maxey has a turn track just down the road from me and it kicked my butt yesterday. Riding a yz250 on a tight 28 second lap time track is brutal but very good training.

Give ClubMX a look also. They are like a close family not a large group. . Great training facility and Brandon Haas really knows what hes doing!

Club MX has been turning out a LOT of AM Champions. I know most live there full time..... do they have week long training too?

That's the difference. There are a core group of great riders there but I believe with the expansion he will be holding schools. They also just put in a awesome wake-board lake (the son of one of the hyper-lite guys trains there). Brandon is a great trainer and has the kids work. IMO it is the best out there right now, if you want to seriously train and ride. Sorry but some of the better more well known places are just babysitting with the kids running wild.(and SOB is not in that group!)

Shae Bentley does weekly camps with very small groups pretty inexpensively in Georgia at a private track,
but between the two I'd say SOB is your best bet for the money.

From Jan. till LL this year I was at SoB. Great group of kids, trainers and staff. Burkeen does an awesome job keeping everything smooth. the rooms are nice to have, no headaches of rv maintenance or any of that. Taylor Futrell and Eric Shirk are outstanding trainers. they took a 20th place finisher at LL2012 to a top runner and moto winner at LL2013 (Bradley Taft). everyone there seem to get along great and rather it be dodgeball, basketball or just hanging out, there is always something going on at night. cant wait to be heading back there in the next week or so, start our training for mini os and 2014.

I agree,Club is a great place and the new trck is ten times better. Much safer and it flows much better.

I went to the Moto X Compound for 6 months in 2014. Never going back. The trainer is super bipolar and treats you like crap even though you're paying him a huge stack of cash each month. Like the one time me and my brother were riding in his truck with him and he said to my brother "dude, your face just makes me wanna.. Like... Grahhhh!" As he made squeezing gestures at his head. And everyone flips out about how good his track is.. Well if you aren't on a big bike it sucks. You can't hit any of the jumps on a mini. (Unless your name is Ashton Hayes) and he picks favorites so if you're not winning Loretta's you don't get any attention. I recommend SOB.

I believe guys like Taylor futrell, Grant Randell, jimmy ddddd and Ryan zimmer help coach the riders at SOB. I think places like club mx, mtf, and Matt walker benefits those who live and train at their facilities. Where ever they choose, be prepared to work.
