Again, I've seen more problems with KTM estart/battery issues than not. I don't have to worry about a "cold" battery or having to recharge on my Japanese bike. I'm not against e-start at all, but the current generation of non-KTM bikes have always been reliable in the starting department so I just don't see the need.

I'm guessing you're forgetting Southwick a few weeks back. You know where it took him almost a full lap to get his bike started.

Sure do...Finally got it kickstarted and went on a fucking rampage to finish like 3rd or something? That was brilliant.

I don't think the outcome was the same at RedBud?

So based off one time an E-start failed you're condemning it? How many times have you seen someone not be able to kickstart their bike during a race and have to walk off? Too many to count. Do you own an E-start bike? Because I've owned 2 and never had any problems whatsoever.

I want a bike that has useable power, turns and handles, suspension that can be tuned and workable for most riders right off the floor and stops and starts as it should for the $ that they are charging.

Frankly for $9000.00 More or Less, KTM is the only one showing a reason to lay out the cash. They seem genuinely interested in giving us the latest and best. Their R & D is relevant and reaches the market quickly, this Special Edition idea is brilliant and very cool.

That being said, a new 2014 RMZ 450 can be picked up for about $5k and with another $1000.00 be as good or better than anything available. I'd argue better.

Can you point me to where I can buy a new 2014 RMZ for 5k? I would buy that quick!

I've owned e start bikes and found them to be a pain in the ass...Chargers, having to remove the seat, added weight up high...and the biggest thing; I was always worried if the battery would hold enough charge to start the bike.

If that's not extra hassle and concern, we shouldn't be having this conversation.

I've never experienced any of this hassle you speak of. During my regular pre-season bike maintenance I plugged the battery in for 10 minutes while changing the oil, took me all of 30 seconds, and didn't think about it for the rest of the season.

Thanks for the post, $5600.00 is about what I paid for my 2005 yz450f and this is not an unusual example, a couple weeks ago I spotted a 2013rmz450 on CL private owner, in the crate for $4500.00.

If you look around great 450 deals are out there. I used to be the guy that had to have the latest and greatest, Looking back and adding it up it cost me huge over the years.

The best stock bike I have owned..... 2008 yz450f. Changed the bars/adjust the settings/race it. Many people changed out the mechanical exhaust but it made plenty of power for my tired ass. Engine was bullet proof and fork was superb.

If I ever see a good example for sale I'll buy it and it'll be my last moto bike.

Thanks for listening. heh

I ride both woods and mx. My woods bike has e-start and I will never have one without it again! My mx bike doesn't (as the only choice right now is a KTM). On occasion, you're gonna fumble and stall in a corner. On my Husky 310, I can almost have it restarted (pull clutch, hit button, release clutch and motor on) with almost no lost time. The other day riding mx I stalled my RMZ-250 in a tight corner. Downshift, downshift, find neutral, verify neutral, kick, kick, kick, kick, starts, shift into gear and go. This easily took 10-15 seconds. To me, this is a LOT of time to lose in mx due to a minor mistake.
Just my 2 cents.

Can't wait to see the 16's !!

I am not far from Waukesha and tried to get a bike from action sports, but they weren't motivated to sell.

Try sportland2 just south of Milwaukee

You must not ride for months at a time, that is the only scenerio for your "issues". It's seems to me you are making up situations just to be argumentative.

Actually it will start, just when it's cold out it's a little difficult, same as kicking your bike for 5 minutes when it's 20 degrees out. Trust me when your 70miles into a technical single track ride, on a hill so steep you can barely walk up it, with a fallen tree ahead of you, that magic little button is your best friend.

I wouldn't pay extra for it if it were an option. In fact I'd probably pass on it if it were a free upgrade.

Some guys love them, I'd rather keep it simple and light.
Same. Wouldn't be a bad option for girls bikes either.

Remember when dirt bikes were for manly men? E-Legs on 2T's are gayer than Aids.

Man up ya girls Kissing

If you're stalling your bikes. learn to use your clutches you Gumby's. BASIC Skills are way under rated!

I woudl hate to be the engineer who had to find money to buy springs to replace the previously used "air". I'll bet thats a hard sell to the accounting dept???? Of course, your right, but its probably impossible to go back on that one.

E-start on a 450 is one thing, but on a 250 it's ridiculous. If you can't kick a 250 four stroke over in a kick or two then there's something wrong with you. I'm 65kg and don't have the slightest issue. On a 250 it's just unnecessary weight, but I can see the argument on bigger bikes. As for riding woods, there's no way you want to be stuck without e-sart there, that's for sure. Oh and if you have a two stroke with e-start you should be damned ashamed of yourself.

The KTM's are surely making a big splash with the new ultra light and redesigned bikes. I surely hope Japan is not just sitting around.

Opinions/Rumors?

As for the original questions:

Kawasaki usually goes 450 first, there's a high chance of a new frame and even a major engine overhaul for 16. They've had a "light" test bike for a few years now. I actually thought it was coming for 15, but was pushed back do to some continued development with the engine.

As for Suzuki, one more year on the current 450 platform, finally an overhaul for 17. The 250 will have new suspension components for 16 (not Showa SFF TAC), not sure if it's gaining anything else beyond that.

I've been hearing rumblings of an all new Honda 250F engine within the next year or two... had a few people over there admit they hit the wall with what they will do with that engine for a consumer.
Some of you thinks that they are true insiders but they knows nothing :

Unlikely, Kawasaki would race it for a year in Japan championship before it would go to public I would think, look at Honda they are brining out a new version mid way through the championship for the 2017 model release...to me this is too radical to have it for 2016 when we havent even seen it being race tested. But i guess we shall see for sure in 2-3 months time.

Yeah I think it would be a shock (no pun intended lol) to see that happen next year.

Though maybe it is the reason RV said he is leaving at the end of 2015 no matter what, maybe he knew what was coming and did not want to be part of developing it lol.

I don't really understand when people say the Suzuki's are showing their age. It looks like a modern bike. Changing the plastic shape every 2 to 3 years doesn't make any difference in performance anyways.

Kawasaki's were changed in 2009 and then again in 2012. So my guess would be they will have a different look for 2016. I think I remember reading the Suzuki's will probably get a new look but not till 2017? I don't think Suzuki is broke either.

Kind of unrelated but I wish Cycra would make plastic kits for Suzuki's. Their reasoning for not starting now was because the bikes will change soon but if they made kits now they have a potential customer in anyone that owns a 2008 to 2015 RM-Z! Doesn't make sense to me.
As a 13' RMZ owner, I agree. Not the best decision IMO.

I want a stadium front # plate, now!
