I'm curious if he gets armpump at the test track during the week or if it is a race thing. If he is getting it at the test track he needs to go to a doctor, if he is a only getting it at the race than he is just riding tight/over thinking.
Great point!

No. He is not working with Hughes this year.......so all of you that said it was the supplements and "over training" last year may need to reconsider. I hope he gets it straightened out real soon. He is great for the sport.

What are you talking about? It's an issue he's had for years, it has nothing to do with the bike. I think Crush has a point, when you're tall like we are you don't have as much space on your legs to hold on to the bike so you have to use your arms a bit more.

Something has to be going on with him.
He won the national title in 2011, you don't win that by luck and he was up against the likes of Bagget,Tomac,Barica etc

It must be frustrating get passed by riders who he had covered in years past.

I think it's a mental thing now. He has to believe he can win at that level.

I've been saying this for awhile, DW is a mental rider. Since that Jeff ward racing team debacle he's done nothing. He felt that he deserved to be on a 450, signed with JWR, the team folded, he had to go back to PC kawi and ride a 250 which in my mind he felt like it was beneath him, and he was expected to go out and wax the field only to get blown away by the younger up n comers and get bit by the injury bug and "arm pump" issues. That, in and of itself started the downfall and he hasn't been able to recover mentally. I know I'll get flamed for saying it, but can you come up with another reason? He had 3 years of getting beat by guys he should have been blowing away, he injured his shoulder multiple times and also had the nasty get off at GH, he wasn't really able to do much on the 450 besides the one good ride at Daytona. I don't know how a full factory KTM 450 ride next to Ryan dungey under the watchful eye of "the man" was supposed to fix all the issues. After the first round at A1, anyone that said anything about DW was flamed, what's the excuse now after watching him 2 weeks in a row and last night drop anchor?
All of this is true. He had a lot of success very fast and early on, with all his "adversity" the last few years he seems more pessimistic, childish and whiny than ever.

Also worth mentioning are the mechanical failures he had that really led to some bad wrecks. The bike blowing up at a test track one year and injuring his shoulder, another blow up on the down hill last year at Glen Helen. Plus there was the electrical gremlin that robbed him of a win in SX. Things like that have a way of sticking in your brain and making you think twice about pushing the ragged edge.

Ever since he messed up his shoulder with his get together with Tomac he's never been quite the same.

First legit season on the 450, on a new bike and a new team, riding in a very stacked field. He is two races in. He will make great progress throughout the season. Man you guys are tough critics....

You sound surprised. This has been happening for a while lol. He's admitted he gets arm pump and it's really affecting his riding :/
Go back to Houston SX 2011. He was complaining of arm pump than. He won the outdoor title that year. But other than that the guy is ALWAYS getting arm pump. I love Deano's personality. However I can't see a future for him, especially in the 450 class.

I am sure he has tried every setting known to man. Maybe its time to try the surgery that created a better career for Stephane Roncada.

Hasn't been nearly as successful for any other rider. But worked for him.

Even his past few seasons on 250s haven't been to stellar. I'm a fan so I hope he can come back to his 2011 self. He was never the same after he screwed up his shoulder though.

Deano needs a fistful of amphetamines.
1/12/2015 1:45am
he looked very unsteady rolling into a lot of the corners and was fighting the forks a lot, the front looks like it is not working for him at all, that could be down to major arm pump, or a very bad setup that seems almost too stiff - I am not him or his mechanic but it just doesn't look right, and especially compared to the way the bike is riding for the other ktm riders.

seeing him go from 6th to near the back is painful, i'm sure they'll sort it out through the season.....hope

Really cuz Kenny and Eli and smoked everyone and had to go to the semi. Cant blame Deano's issues on that....

During practice the track isn't the same as the main event. I've owned a ktm and I know they are hard to get used to.

I dont see how you can say it's mental when you look at his lap times. Kid has the speed the first 10 laps and then he drops the anchor. I remember watching one of his fill in rides for Reed last year and he looked like he could barely hang on.

I'm just above 6'3 and it's always been a problem for me. It's not impossible to grip with your legs it's just a little more difficult.

Yup, and it can vary a LOT from bike to bike. I found it impossible to grip with my knees on my RMZ. My Husky and TM's no problem. Dean could very well be having this problem with the new KTM, hopefully if that's the case they can figure something out for him quickly. Even if it were an issue on other bikes for him, it might have been less of an issue on a 250. Less horsepower/torque would obviously require less upper body strength/stamina if your legs aren't able to help you hang on.
