Looks like is been infected, could have been an abcess from a previous injury. I had one similar on my leg, has to heal from the inside out. Gnarly stuff

Not a doctor, but it does look similar to a staph infection I had. Nasty shit. The fact that it's sewn up makes me think maybe something else.

I don't think it would be bacteria, typically they will not close a wound for fear of trapping in the bacteria. The second pic looks like it had been sewn previously

The sad thing is ( and people forget or just don't think about it ).....is a lot of these guys have injuries they have to deal with all the time. Another reason why their seasons go up and down. I knew of a very fast local pro who was very well known nation wide.....that had two herniated discs in his back , had a hard time walking and needed help getting his boots on and off. Didn't want people to know because he was scared some of his sponsors may drop him. And then at the same time people were saying " WTF is wrong with him....dudes washed up and lost all his speed "

Sport can be cruel. But it also shows how clueless the crowds can be.

"We saw some photos earlier today of Josh Grant's foot from a week or two ago. Apparently he had some cysts that were pinching a nerve, and it required surgery before the season to fix. Yikes."

It looks like they didn't put his stitches in deep enough (you want mattress stitches) or he just didn't let it heal before he started getting around on it (several days after the stitches are put in). You have to give the tissue under the skin time to bond and heal before you start being active. I dealt with something similar with my son this past year.

Also, they can pretty much open the womb again and put the stitches back in if it doesn't heal correctly initially. That is what we had to do with my son.

Looks like staph infection after previous surgery. That's nasty stuff. It can kill you if you don't get it cleaned out and kill the staph.

I had almost the exact same thing with my heel/ankle (from surgery). It took 13 months to close up...
I would hazard a guess that there is a bunch of metal underneath Josh's wound, which slows down healing time.
Even now, my "healed" wound is more callous-like than skin.
Someone mentioned it has to heal from the inside out, and that is pretty much it right there.
Heal/heel up quick Josh!

Having just had carpal tunnel surgery on my wrist, with a similat length incision, the photo with the stitches is just after surgery and the photo with the open wound, skin flaking & pealing is approx 1-2 weeks later.
Looks like Josh probably had the stitches out early to be ready for Anaheim 1 and it was too soon, as the wound has re-opened.Sick
Just my observation, but I'm no doctor and hope he heals up soon!

If the wound opens up after the stitches are taken out some doctors will tell you that they can't put more stitches in and you just have to let it heal and risk more serious stuff. You will basically end up with a hole where the cut was. We went to a different doctor and opted to have it opened again and re-stitched. The second time around they did deep mattress stiches and surface level regular stiches as well. That did the trick. My son's cut was probably as deep and long as Josh's. You have to stay off it and let it seal internally for it to heal correctly.

Same for me, the first photo would be my AFTER photo... I would post pics, but they are way worse looking than Josh's, serious...
The Docs didn't want mine closed up from the outside (more chance of infection I believe?), it needed to heal from inside out.
The good thing however, is it wasn't painful at all, just slowww healing.
Injuries just SUCK, no matter what!
